The property is accessed by keypad. During my stay I did not see any staff or other guests. It is a large place, very clean and fine for this small town. Interesting local historic photos on the walls. Lovely view of the dam.

No lamps anywhere. All ceiling 'can' lighting that was not dim-able. So either it was overly bright or nothing. This was inconvenient in the guest room. I used my phone. Not a deal breaker, but very odd.

My room overlooked the running rapids of the New River which I could listen to all night. Very clean and comfortable. Spacious shared kitchen that was very clean, modern, and well stocked with dishes and utensils, refrigerators, stoves, dishwashers, microwave (including coffee pods for your enjoyment). Lovely small town on the river. The host was very accommodating and kind.

Everything about this place is awesome. From the old home feel to the beautiful views. The kitchen was a great amenity! We will be back and we will tell our friends! Thanks Kim

Old charm and everything we needed to make a comfortable stay

Poor wifi signal and connection. This additionally made the TV reception poor. TV improved later in the day/evening of our stay.

Great location, clean and comfortable. Staff was easy to deal with and pleasant. I will definitely come back!

There was no staff on site. The furnishings were VERY old/outdated.( Not nice old, just old) The refrigerator had food & beverages over a month past the expiration date, in them. The washcloths were stained. I did not feel safe because even though the room has a lock on the door, we were 2 older females, traveling alone, with one additional male guest, whom we didn't know, staying at the Inn. Unattended.

Not much.

1. The room that I was assigned was occupied. Luckily no one was in the room when I entered. 2. The next room was less than basic. 3. Slats dropped out of one bed when I sat on it. 4. The only lights were overhead. There were no bedside lamps. 5. The decor was blah.

Location. The Fries Virginia village is peaceful, quiet, friendly and the trail head of the the New River Trail State Park (Fries extention) The water flowing over the dam makes a very calming sound. Galax, with its modern stores and quaint downtown, is a short curvy drive away. The Inn seems like a good choice for a large family get together or a class reunion. The recent renovation blends modern stuff with the historic building.

The Inn is sort of a cross between a hotel and a hostel. We felt there were some things that might be improved. The furniture is mostly thrift store items with a few true antiques. No elevators...be prepared to lug luggage up the narrow stairs. One tv in the lobby. None in the rooms. This may appeal to many folks...or...what???? The lobby piano? No one played it while we were there. But...one slightly drunk party at 10 pm would be a problem. Rooms do need the escape routes, the prices, and the safety notices posted. We had a terrific 3 night stay. The people that have restored this beautiful building appear to still be working on small problems. We only contacted the host (by phone only) once. The responce solved our issue. With most of the US population having cell phones, an in-room land line phone must not be necessary anymore. And we would have liked motion lights in the halls and on the steps. We would have liked the building to have one handicapped room with access using ramps thoughout interior and outside spaces. We would have liked more fire extinguishers. We would have like a locked fire screen on the fire place. I do believe the owners will continue to adapt the Inn into more of a traditional hotel, rather than a hostel. The people that will stay here do need to be protected from falls, fires, noise, and other hazards. Signs would definitely help with emergency contact numbers, instructions on kitchen responsibilities, and where to park. But hey, we had a great time. Everything went well.
