Location was perfect for a college visit with my Daughter to W&L. About 1/3 of a mile from admissions office & right in the heart of 'downtown' Lexington.
1) Fitness center would benefit from a larger space / more room and 2) the 2nd bed in the room (2 queen beds) had no electrical outlets within 10 feet of either side-- so recharging mobile devices (phone, tablet) had to be done on other side of room. Neither are big deals & the awesome hotel itself-- the character, warmth, history, service & proximity to W&L-- far outweighed these suggested improvements-- but as the prompt asked for suggested areas for improvement, wanted to mention at least 1-2 items!

I have stayed here before and will stay here again. This place is full of charm! Lovely, friendly staff greet you as you walk back in time through a revolving door straight out of a Currier and Ives painting. Walk past the registrtion desk to find two amazing antique phone booths from an era long gone! A delicious reasonably-priced restaurant on the 2nd floor lets you order in without having to wait on room service (which the hotel doesn't offer; hey, you can't have it all!). To get to your floor, take a ride on one of two antique elevators, one of which was hand-operated for nearly a hundred years and only was decommissioned as a hand-operated elevator in 2017—unbelievable! You can still admire the hand controls. The rooms are pure luxury -- large beds, beautiful mountain views through big, bright windows, and a shower that'll knock your socks off!
TV in the room is smaller than I am accustomed to these days. A/C in common areas was struggling, so much so that I would not have wanted to eat in the restaurant.

It was a really beautiful establishment in a beautiful location. The staff were very kind. There were a lot of shops within walking distance. including a coffee shop next door.
The room did not have a refrigerator, and there was no room service. The restaurant was only a few steps from the room, but I did not know until after I had showered following an 8 hour drive. It was a little uncomfortable standing in the entry of a fine dining establishment (with wedding parties at the bar) in my ultra casual attire and not feeling well. The restaurant staff were very kind though. I would also say that (for the price) breakfast was really unremarkable. This wouldn't stop me from returning. Just noting for others to know in advance of the stay.

The location was excellent for my purposes. I was able to park the car and then walk everywhere I needed to go.
There was nothing that was really unsatisfactory but 2 things stood out : 1) Booking was advertised as coming with breakfast. At the high prices paid, I was a little surprised that breakfast was only a continental type breakfast and not eggs, bacon, etc. 2) You had to specifically request maid service room cleaning in order to get it.

Great location right in town. Hotel is noisy due to being older building but staff gave us a room on back side at end of hall which may have been better. Shower has issues as water is not contained by shower wall and gets into the room. Breakfast ok. Staff could be more forthcoming with suggestions of things to do etc. and places to eat. Housekeeper was wonderful….personable, friendly and helpful.

Everything went pretty well, incl. parking, check in, check out and we loved the location in the center of this beautiful city.
The breakfast, like often in the US, is merely coffee and packed food. We did not enjoy it, but we were used to it from previous hotels. Otherwise, there are plenty restaurants of all categories around, so it did not matter, that the hotel own restaurant was closed due to the holiday seasons.

Beautiful building. Parking was available, just need to have a more convenient entrance. Room was clean, prefer softer pillows and a better show head (may just need cleaning as some of the holes were clogged with little pressure) and the breakfast could definitely be improved upon.

Breakfast was delicious. Good variety and plenty of healthy options. We loved the historical feel of the lobby and room while also enjoying the modern updates. Staff were friendly and helpful. Location was central to lots of restaurant options and eclectic shopping all within walking distance. You must visit the quaint bookstore next door and go to the Natural Bridge. We’ll be back!
Could have used more outlets by the bed but it’s understandable given the age of the hotel. Not enough of an inconvenience to keep us from returning.

This is a quaint hotel that's well maintained. It may be small but the overall decor in the main areas as well as in the hallways are great. The room is comfortable. The shower has plenty of water pressure. I also like the fact that it's right in the middle of Lexington so it's easy to walk to dinner and visit other parts of the town. Overall it's great.

convenience to downtown shops and nearby universities. I liked the historical vibe to the building. I’m sure a lot of famous people have been guest at this hotel over the years.
The shower stall design is flawed. The open concept shower stall makes it impossible to keep water from making its way to the bathroom floor. There are no vending machines in the hotel, refrigerators or microwave ovens in rooms. I assume the current electrical system limitations prohibits having such items in the hotel. For the amount paid for a room, such amenities are taken for granted that they will be there. Read carefully about this property before you book and you won’t be disappointed.
