My wife and I stayed three nights in the Madsen accommodation which is in the centre of town opposite the water. The room was on the ground floor and had a spa bath. Other rooms have water views. Depending on whether you like upstairs or down it's best to phone the manager to ensure which you would like. Shopping is a breeze with two IGA super markets very close. Across the road is the Penguin brewing company with delicious beers. I recommend the "Emperor" brew. There's a deck with heaters outside to enjoy the view on a cold night. A short walk up the road is the Grand Neptune hotel with reasonably priced pub meals. There's also a very interesting op shop with, yes water views and plenty of comfortable couches for the men to wait while their wives spend time looking through all the clothes. Considering the accommodation is on the main street there was not a hustle and bustle of traffic. Parking is easy across the road and street parking overnight is very safe where we parked. If security parking is required then ask the manager Bruce who can arrange for vehicles and small camper trailers to be left overnight a few houses along. Bruce is the ultimate in hospitality together with the cleaning staff I can assure you of a wonderful stay.

This property is a beautiful example of boutique hotel! Greeted by Bruce who was very friendly and helpful. There is not much to do in Penguin but Bruce livened our stay with ideas for dinner, drink and activities (walking). The room was lovely, with a large window through which we had a 'side view' to the ocean. The town is quiet and comfortable. The lobby is well stocked with wine, snacks and very comfy sofas. Bruce is charming and has a ton of great stories!!!!

the stairs are not too bad if you don't have lots of heavy luggage ;)

We arrived after dark in the most awful weather,they owner had turned on the heat and light ,it was so welcoming. It was a pet friendly room but it was as nice and fresh as any non pet friendly hotel/motel. The location and facilities were exceptional. I would recommend this place with or without pets, one of the best pet friendly accommodation I've stayed in anywhere across Australia.

There was nothing i didn't like.

The Hotel is right on the main street directly across from the beach with IGA either side and walking distance to everything in the lovely township of Penguin. The complimentary glass of Port was an added bonus. The room was huge, and the bed was soooo comfortable and the added bonus was adjustable which was perfect for us.

Nothing to think of. Maybe a freezer in the fridge?

The Madsen is lovely from the outside and the inside. The lovely lounge area at the entrance is great for time around the fire and drinks and nibbles. There are bottles of wine that you can have by the glass or bottle and other drinks too. The location was fabulous and while there isn't parking at the Madsen, there is ample across the road or just down the street a bit.

We didn't know there were stairs to some of the rooms, and though we managed it could be a problem if you had issues with stairs.

The staff were very helpful, knowledgeable and welcoming. The room was spacious, comfortable, and quiet and the hotel is just across the road from the beach. The location is excellent and within easy walking distance of most of Penguin township. No view from our internal room but the hotel location puts one within a few steps of brilliant views over Bass Strait and the Penguin coastline, and local eateries and bakeries.

Sea view room #1: Main street location is convenient, very cosy, friendly and accommodating staff, a wonderful view of the sea, overall a nice room in a heritage building, just a little dated in some aspects.

Minor details like the bathroom sink is very small, which is fine except the glass shelf above it meant it was awkward to use. Coffee and tea cups too small. No bedhead was uncomfortable and a real shame.

A delightful team met me at reception for assistance and helped me to my room. This was a treat to stay with a luxy room including a spa and to be left in private to rest and recover. I could hear the ocean for a short time during my stay which was very enjoyable.

on road car parking, not much of a view

Very clean, very comfortable, good amenities, lovely views from the front room. We would definitely stay again. The breakfast sounded very nice and we would have liked to try it, but unfortunately we had made other arrangements.

There was little, if any, off-street parking, but at least there was ample parking in the street at the front. Just a minor issue.

Beautiful old building with very comfortable bed. Not suitable for someone with mobility issues if you are in one of the upstairs rooms (make sure you book a downstairs room). Big shout out to Bruce who was very helpful in reuniting me with items I managed to leave behind as I left very yearly in the morning to get to the airport.
