If we could have checked in in the morning, unfortunately that was only possible from 2 p.m., but we were able to store our luggage

This Franco-Japanese Garden hotel offers space, tranquility and quality of service on the doorstep of all the excitement that is Shanghai. Value was great. Access was amazing - taxis are cheap but the underground is literally 150m from the hotel and easy, convenient and cheap. The French concession area is ideal if you want some international sophistication as a contrast to the factories of China. We particularly enjoyed the pool and the breakfast.

The room is large compared to Tokyo but small compared to 5 star hotels in less expensive areas of China.

The breakfast was great, a large range of options and fresh. The room was spacious and with a great view. Great location for nearby shopping, restaurants, cafes and bars. Great walking area. The decor could do with an upgrade but still in good condition. A good location for a first visit to Shanghai former french concession area. Reasonable rates, we did pay a bit more as they suggested a room with a larger room when we checked in. There is a bar on the top floor with more views.

Excellent breakfast with lots of variety and menu changed daily. Very helpful, friendly and knowledgeable English speaking concierge and overall great service from staff. Location was excellent with metro station and key shopping streets close by. It was lovely staying in a heritage building with a beautiful garden in the charming & quieter French district after sightseeing in the busier parts of Shanghai. Large, clean and comfortable rooms with a lovely view.

Room service took a long time and limited menu after 11pm.

Centrally located in Shanghai, very convenient to go move around; the garden in front of the hotel is amazing; I was put on the executive floor on 30th floor, the view is incredible; staff are welcoming and helpful; breakfast was good with good varieties; definitely love the Japanese toilet :)

We tried the Japanese restaurant on the 3F, it was a bit disappointing; the hotel was too busy during my stay since the athletes of Olympic qualifier also stayed in this hotel; the hotel is a bit old, but still very well maintained;

The property is located very conveniently in a bustling area, near a subway station. It has a gorgeous exterior and lush gardens. Service is very good, helpful if you need information, support, bookings and so on. Rooms are clean though a little old (it is a historic building!) so understandable but everything works well. Water pressure, aircon and all. Plenty of lifts and quiet from the 12th floor where I was.

Great if you could have a walking map of the area and attractions within walking distance or a how to guide to attractions in Shanghai?

the room was simply wow ... the hotel was a beautiful picturesque establishment.... everything inside the room was stunning. the view at night was incredible....

from the check in things were bad, i waited almost 1 hour for check in. they tried my card 5 times after told me oh... we dont accept debit card. they should put this on booking.com. they told me they only accept credit card. i tried to change usd 300 , it was almost like the chinese intelligence had to approve it. i had to wait 30 minutes and provide business details and all contacts in my country. omg.... this might spoil ones stay... but once you are past the bureaucracies then you start to enjoy the hotel.

This is our second year to stay at Okura Garden Hotel in Shanghai with our parents to celebrate Christmas. The service is much better than last year, location is super and all staff are very helpful.

Cause the Christmas Eve is fully booked, breakfast place was not prepared for the crowds, we have to wait outside for 10mins. And when we get in staff are all busy, nobody serves coffee and tea, also the table cloth is a little dirty.

- The spaces in the parking garage are really small - We smelled cigarette smoke in the hallway numerous times even though smoking is supposedly not allowed - I noticed hairs that didn't belong to us on the side of the bathtub - so cleanliness could be improved - There was a notice saying that only towels left in the hamper would be changed, but all of our towels were changed every time - this is nice, but not eco-friendly - The Swedish massage at the spa was not very authentic and there's weirdly a window in the door where people could see into the room. Client modesty was not really considered in general, and I felt rushed beforehand - Sometimes you could hear construction noise from the street until past 11pm, or noise from the hallway
