We stayed two nights total in Villa San Ignacio, at the beginning and end of our trip to Costa Rica. For this purpose it was ideal; close to the airport (you'll be thankful for that if you have a late arriving or early departing flight!), an attractive and secure property with plenty of parking and a good restaurant on-site. Great breakfast and friendly, efficient service, too! I would stay again.

The rooms and bathrooms (or at least ours) were a little worn and dated, but clean and overall comfortable. The pool was surprisingly chilly, but this may be because the beautiful gardens create a lot of shade.

Spacious room. Comfortable bed. Powerful shower (though the water wasn't always hot). Room was serviced each day. All the staff were welcoming, friendly, and helpful. We made good use of the swimming pool, chess board and pool table. The breakfasts were good - we were able to choose a different freshly cooked breakfast on each of our 4 mornings and the coffee was good. We dined in the restaurant on 2 occasions - the food was good and the prices were fair. Very good location for the airport.

Just a few suggestions to improve the customer experience: provide fruit juice at breakfast (rather than it being an optional extra to be paid for); have tea/coffee making facilities in the rooms.

We had the fortune to stay here with friends in two simple rooms at the beginning of our stay and then alone in the King balcony room at the end. The people working here are delightfully engaging...we loved talking to Sergio (who got us coffee and banana bread in time to drive to the airport) and to Thomas about his travels and the other beautiful woman who helped in the bar. We saw special birds on this property including a Summer Tanager, Lesson's Motmot, and White-crowned Parrot. This feels surreal given that we spent so many days in remote areas and these beauties showed up 30 minutes from the airport. There is city noise as this lovely place is in the city!

In the small rooms where we stayed at the beginning, it would be great to have at least 2 chairs and a little table. We took advantage of the late night food delivery (thank goodness!).

A lovely oasis close to the airport. A colonial style hotel - we much prefer this to the big brand hotels. The double comfort room was definitely comfortable, with a balcony to enjoy the view over the garden and mountains beyond. Lower rooms seem to be most recently refurbished and also have great garden views (as shown in hotel pics). Enjoyed my morning cup of tea on the balcony, watching the birds (packed a travel kettle). We enjoyed exploring the nature trails and the restaurant served good food- lovely ambiance on the terrace.

A kettle or coffee making facilities would have been great but maybe if I’d asked they would have provided one.

A pretty boutique hotel in lovely grounds, not far from the airport. We stayed in the beautiful, larger king room with balcony- a lovely place to sit and spot some birds! Didn’t get a chance to play pool in the downstairs room but a great space! Enjoyed the nature trails, pool and restaurant. They put fruit out at breakfast time to attract birds - excellent breakfast! I had fruit then omelette, and bottomless coffee.

Wish there had been a coffee machine for early risers. Some traffic noise but the hotel can’t help that (wasn’t an issue at night) and the lovely grounds made up for it.

Great place to stay overnight near the airport with secure parking. Checkin was really easy and all the staff were very nice and helpful. Pool was a good size with towels provided. Bed comfortable though there was some road noise but acceptable. We left our cases while we went to the volcano the next morning, then picked up and went to the airport. The food was all really nice we paid for dinner and cocktails. We had traditional gallo pinto for breakfast which was lovely. The grounds are nice with big plants and the whole ambience feels chilled.

We had a great start of our holiday here after a late flight arrival. The staff is very friendly and willing to help. They serve different types of breakfast according to your preferences. The swimming pool is beautiful, located between restaurant and garden and has enough towels and chairs. We definitely recommend to start or finish your holiday in this place.

We are a family with 3 children and asked for rooms close to eachother, which they did not provide. The reason was due to a standard and luxury room booking from our side which are located at different sites of the property. We were only informed of this upon late arrival which was disappointing. I would have preferred to know this before, so we possibly changed the room types booking. With a late arrival, the gatekeeper could not change anything anymore. Eventually we had a great night and stay, so all went ok.

Beautiful place and grounds, comfortable rooms, nice breakfast and pool. Very good relaxing place to recover after a long flight. The area itself isn't very interesting, took us about 25 min drive from the airport We wished there was a kettle in the room to boil water as we were traveling with a baby and needed to boil his water, but the restaurant was kind enough to help us. The rooms are kind of noisy from traffic and also from some type of crickets that are outside, but honestly we were so tired it was ok.

Great place 20-30 mins from San Jose airport. Lots of birds and butterflies in a lush garden. Lovely breakfast daily, beautiful pool and trails! Motmots, tanagers, warblers oh my! They even have a little feeding station by the breakfast veranda-so sweet! Nice service! I needed a good iphone case and it was easy to take an Uber (5-7$) to the large mall after the staff helped me figure out where to go!

Not a negative for us but for some rooms have minimal amenities, no coffee or hot water.

Service at reception and the bar/restaurant was great. The room was spacious and comfortable. The lock on the door wasn't working properly to begin with but after I reported it, it was fixed very quickly. Food in the restaurant was good quality. The included breakfast was good. The pool table was a nice addition. The swimming pool was nice (not too cold), but you do get a bit of debri off the sourrounding vegetation, but that is hard to keep on top off all the time. I Uber'd to here from San Jose downtown with no problem.

As others reported, there is a bit of road noise, but honestly it didn't really bother me at all (but I only stayed for 1 night). Perhaps could have done with more regular skimming of the pool to remove the floating debri/insects.
