We had a lovely stay at this lodge, 2 nights just after arriving into San Jose. When we arrived we walked along the trails around this grounds which was really lovely, we were the only ones so felt like we had the jungle to ourselves. Took around 2 hours and some parts are very steep! We saw armadillos! The room was lovely and felt secluded. We ate dinner in the restaurant both nights, the seabass was delicious. The communal areas are so nice, they put the fire on in the evenings making it cosy. We went to La Paz waterfall gardens which was amazing (so many hummingbirds!). Service was great, they arranged all our transport for us. Would highly recommend. We stayed in the king room (room 7) and it was lovely

Only downside is everything feels quite damp and nothing dries, but we had a heater in our room which helped.

We have been going to Poas Volcano Lodge throughout the years and it remains as magical as ever. The gardens are beautiful, surrounded by prairies and cows. It's cold outside but the room remained warm and cozy. Great beds and amenities, always hot coffee and tea in the room. The food was delicious and there are small hikes you can do around the property.

We traveled with a two year old and didn't know the restaurant only opened for the night in a two hour window, we were told. She got quite hungry late afternoon and most of the staff was unhelpful, thankfully we ran into the cook and she was really nice and made her a bowl of pasta. It's mostly our fault for not checking but usually we have found staff to be more helpful in these situations that sometimes arise with the little ones.

property is beautiful. we had a room in the lodge. lodge has different sitting areas, so very cozy even on rainy days. there are some trails on the property. be prepared for mud. if you go to the greenhouse, they have different sized rain boots you can borrow. breakfast was good with an ordered breakfast in addition to granola, yogourt and fruit. dinner was our least expensive, was very good. propert is a little isolated but this adds to its charm. a car is necessary. it took us about 25 minutes to drive to Poas National park. don’t panic if you reserved a specific time and are in a car lineup to get in. they only allow so many people and cars in at a time.

A great spot to stay close to Poas volcano and not too far (just over 1 hour) from San Jose airport. We stopped for 1 night on our first day and it was lovely. The main building with restaurant and lodge is great with fan views and a good restaurant/breakfast. Great to have some of its own trails to walk and garden. Great view of Poás volcano. It’s windy road to reach but worth the drive. Good idea to have a 4x4. Great to have hot water

The cabin room main door was not very sealed so and the room felt a bit damp, but it was still comfortable and clean. A windy route up the mountains. but fine with a 4x4 and road surface is good. Short track to hotel which is off road but fine to access with a 4x4.

Helpful staff: although check-in can only be until 10pm - I have messaged that we're getting late, and I wasn't sure if we will get there by 10, I was told that reception will wait for us in any case. Upon arrival at 9:30, the staff was informed that we may arrive late. Beautiful main building and surroundings, 30 minutes drive to the volcano.

Сontinental breakfast could be better. Uncomfortable bed and pillows. Feeling of dampness in the rooms. Rooms were heated by a portable heater, but the bathrooms were cold; I wouldn't take a shower in such cold. The hotel room looks better in the pictures than in reality, a bit old.

This is such a cozy and peaceful place—perfect for a relaxing break. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, making it easy to feel at home and unwind. What really made the experience stand out was the staff. They were so friendly, attentive, and always ready to help with anything I needed. Their kindness and quick responses made the stay even more enjoyable. Overall, it’s a great spot to rest and recharge, with a lovely ambiance and exceptional hospitality. I’d definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a quiet and welcoming retreat!

The breakfast was absolutely delightful, and I truly appreciated the effort that went into it. If I may suggest, it would be lovely to have a few more savoury options available. While the fruit and muesli are wonderful choices, I personally prefer something heartier in the morning, as the egg omelette on its own felt a little light.

Even though the breakfast is included in the rate, we didn't eat it as the options are only eggs and waffles. For the standard of the place the breakfast should be a lot better. There are several places around the area with cheap and great Costa Rican breakfast therefore the hotel should raise the bar

In general, the food is just average, The menu is limited and the quality can be a lot better. This definetly is the weakness of the lodge

The location is ideally located to see and drive to Poas Volcano. It's in a serene setting with lovely gardens, views of the volcano, dairy farms, and strawberry greenhouses. Lots of blooming flowers and birds. There are 4 trails on the property also. The dinners were delicious and breakfast varied and plentiful. The restaurant staff and reception staff are helpful and friendly. We loved sitting in the lounges reading in the evenings with the ambience of the little wood-burning fireplaces/stoves. Roads in the area are very good. Close to several coffee plantations; Doka was our favorite(great tour)and there's a Starbucks plantation(great view, not the best tour.

The road into the lodge off the main road is packed dirt and narrow. However, we never ran into any traffic in the other direction so it was ok. The water in the bathroom takes awhile to warm up but fine once it does. Pura Vida!

Nice property. Large, clean room. There is a seating area outside garden room and also inside with coffee and tea provided. Excellent breakfast - even the pancakes which are between American pancakes and crepes. Friendly and accommodating staff. Extensive group areas to sit and read or talk. Lower level area with pool table and some games available.

My in laws are in their 80s and I have an intermittent knee issue. There are no handrails on steps outside. The interior “railing” from the dining level to the check-in area cannot be gripped - you can only run your hand along the top. The paths from the garden rooms to the lodge are either up stairs (no handrails) or over very bumpy cobblestone. The design is beautiful but not helpful for people with only mild limitations. Would be nice to a have a table for a small group to play cards in one of the upper seating areas. The lower area didn’t have a large enough one either and is colder than the upper level.

We knew Poas Volcano Lodge would be a nice place, but it turned out to be much nicer than we expected. The entrance as you drive through the dairy farm is lovely, and the hotel's grounds are much bigger than I thought. We stayed in the main building and found the style and the architecture very nice, incredibly spacious, very well kept. There are multiple lounge areas - the photos don't do them justice. The rooms are large, the bed really comfortable, and the view over the volcano is beautiful. We had dinner on site which was ok - like a nice homely meal - and then enjoyed a few glasses of wine by the fire on one of their many couches. Overall, we were quite surprised and delighted by how lovely our stay was. If you're looking for a place that's cute, cozy, but of a high standard then this is it.
