A very convenient location. short drive to local attractions: Poas Volcano NP, Starbucks coffee farm & La Paz waterfall garden. They are within 25 minutes driving. Also, the staff is excellent try hard to accommodate the customers requests. I traveled with a disabled mother in her 80+ years old. Had no issues moving around the property (I drove) & sitting out on the bench outside was enjoyable. When we stayed, it was windy, but the chalet is positioned in a way that you wouldn’t directly get the wind. Excellent breakfast.

This was one of our favorite stays on our trip in Costa Rica! The staff was the most kind and engaging! It truly blew us away. Every detail here was so lovely.— all the hydrangeas, the strawberry farm, the cabins and the breakfast! The cabins were cozy and decorated so wonderfully. We loved getting up early with local coffee in our room, seeing the strawberries being picked and looking at all the flowers and the views! The breakfast here was the absolute best of the trip with homemade jam and so much more! It was a 45 min drive to the airport and absolutely perfect for our last night. You could feel the love, care and hospitality put into this family-owned place. Hortensias Chalet Vara Blanca is at the top of our list of places to recommend and somewhere we would love to come back to someday!

Excellent service and very welcoming team. They treated us like family. Special attention and details towards our child was really appreciated. The houses are simple but very clean and well kept. We had excellent coffee available in the room. The garden is beautiful and very well kept. The breakfast is delicious. We throughly enjoyed our stay! Pura Vida!

The staff was the highlight of our stay ! Norman and Ingrid welcomed us warmly and made sure our stay was perfect. The chalet is very cute, luckily there is an electric heater because it can be cold in the mountains. The scenery around the hotel is beautiful, with a very nice view on the valley! The garden is impeccable, with beautiful hortensias and other flowers. Also the location is ideal to visit Poas volcano. Thank you Ingrid and Norman :)

the bathroom was a little outdated, might need a small renovation

We loved our stay at Hortensias, the villas are so cute, the little electric fireplace was used a couple nights just to cut the dampness. Had two meals for supper and we enjoyed them, breakfast was also very good. Highly recommend.

Only thing the bed in Cala was a bit hard for us.. being older we prefer a softer bed for our old bodies ;)

Beautiful mountain location and estate. Very comfortable chalets located in a beautiful garden with a variety of flowers and nice views. Close to Poas volcano, to La Paz waterfall hotel and estate, on the route to La Fortuna. Tasteful breakfasts and the possibility to have dinner. Very nice and accommodating staff!

The room was comfy, it was a little cabin, it even had a small heater really nice 👍 The restaurant was good, you can eat there or ask them to take it to your room, something to remark is that most of the restaurants close between 17 and 20 hours, they do have the kitchen open till 20:30..

The bed was not great 🚫 The mattress was not nice to the back, the toilet is old and we even stepped onto a tiny snake 🐍 that some how got into the room, thought that the cold whether would keep them away..

This place was absolutely perfect! Checking in which was so quick and easy, very friendly and helpful offering to assist with booking trips. The chalet was beautiful and clean with everything you needed. The grounds are lovely with humming birds easy to spot and the location is perfect if flying into San Jose and wanting to explore La Paz waterfall and Poas volcano. Breakfast is not to be missed especially, nor meals in the restaurant. It is all freshly made from scratch including the bread and sourced locally so the food was excellent. We are looking forward to staying again on our next visit!

Very clean and cosy. Owner super sweet, enticing us with strawberries grown there and delicious food, very attentive and accommodating to all our requests. The chalets were thematic, each had a flower name and you had that glower planted in front of it, which we found very cute.

1) amazing service! everybody was very helpful, welcoming and kind. 2) the property and the chalets were beautiful. everything was clean, decorated, they had beautiful flowers on the property. They even grow strawberries on site which is pretty cool. 3) they have a games room which overlooks the mountains which was nice to have. we played ping pong before dinner. 4) the restaurant is amazing !!! the food is so so good. we are breakfast, lunch and dinner at the restaurant and loved it all. the breakfast included in the stay was great. we are so happy with our stay, I would highly recommend and I would come back here. the location is good if you are visiting la Paz waterfalls or the poas volcano, or if you just want to relax and enjoy beautiful views.
