Definitely price/performance leader hostel. If you gonna visit Hamburg you don't need a deep dive search for a convenient hostel. Genarator is the the only answer. Special thanks to Olivia at reception. She helped me for early check-in and saved my day! Thank you again Olivia ❤️ I stayed in 8-bed dorm. Okay maybe wc and shower cabinets are small but hey this is a hostel. Bed sheets and linens are snow white and freshly cleaned. Mattress was comfortable. Locker for traveller size backpack is big enough (don't forget to bring your own lock!) Breakfast cost is 7,50 € which is fair enough. Fresh orange juice, coffee, Gouda cheese, salami etc.

It is very central and next to the Hauptbahnhof. When you step out from hostel, freak show immediately begins 😁 Homeless and drug addicts of Hamburg welcome you. But this is very typical for Germany. Hbf's are always a kind a shelter for them.

The staff was really nice and the location really convenient, right next to Hamburg's Central Station. The area itself is a bit overcrowded and there was a lot of police activity right next to it... So I wouldn't recommend it for families with children. But if like us you're just a young couple passing by and travelling by train, then it's a great option! The rooms had everything needed, there is laundry service (6 euros per machine). People leave books behind that you can take with you.

No one cleaned our room during the stay, even though we left the sign on the door. The location's vibe may be outputting for some, but I recommend you go to one of the Portuguese cafés nearby and have yourself an expresso and a nata, you'll feel better immediately. :)

Aside from the surrounding streets (not its fault) and the bathroom this hostel is almost perfect. The ideal place to stay. Very well kept, amazing beds, very clean, an adjacent bar and breakfast for 7,50. A big place near the station, comfortable even if you stay more than one night. Also, the price was excellent.

Beware that the surrounding streets are full of drug addicts especially during the night. But it's not very dangerous (many shops are always open) and it's not the hostel's fault. If anything, it's well located since it's in front of the central station. The main issue is the size of the bathroom inside the rooms, very very very small. Breakfast was not excellent but the buffet cost 7,50 and you get what you pay for. I'd still do it again.

I always like the ambience in the Generator 🫠... I love ❤️... the very central location and the whole surrounding of St. George. There are interesting bars 🍹... n colourful shops 🛒... 🥪...🥚...🍎... nearby 😇... Culture places like the Art Gallery, Opera 🎭... n Theatre mainly in walking distances 👍... I also like the very friendly, supportive n helpful members of staff😊...

Only this time... the bedroom n bathroom was filled with stuff ~ suitcases everywhere on the floor, plus shower n toilets was so occupied that it was not easy to find space for your own stuff I.e. tooth brush, shower gel etc. I guess, especially as the facilities are very small, it's nicer if everyone keeps it a tiny bit tidy n thinks about the others, too 🤔... ( I never experienced this before ~ so I guess it was an exeptional situation ⁉️...)

Located in central Hamburg near the main station (with connections to buses, trains, and U/S-Bahn lines) and within walking distance of major attractions, this hotel offers well-equipped rooms in excellent condition, small bathrooms, a simple but nice breakfast, and is a good choice for solo travelers.

The staff was friendly, but they lacked knowledge about the city's attractions and couldn’t provide recommendations. It would be helpful if they became more familiar with local sights and activities to better assist guests.

Location is amazing, you can do anything on foot and the main station is literally right in front.

It's pretty loud, probably focused on a more young audience, but that's OK for the price and location. The bathroom inside the room is like a plane bathroom, impossible to use, but here's the catch: there's two bathrooms in each floor for you to use and shower, which I found out about going through Google reviews bc the staff did not mention it at all. So unless you go and complain about the bathroom, they won't tell you where nothing is 🤷🏻‍♀️

The location is very convenient for everything, be it further travel or seeing the city. There's a lot of various facilities in the hostel itself to suit essentially all of your travel needs. Despite the closeness of the train station the room was very quiet. With online check-in available the entire check-in process can be very smooth and quick. The hostel's very modern and the staff's friendly.

The bathrooms are extremely cramped (I'm not a big person and it was a stretch even for me). The breakfast, while good and solid, could use a bit more variety. While the location is convenient it might be a bit off-putting to a solo traveler - there's a lot of strange people around the train station (as in every larger city). To be fair though I wasn't approached by any of them - it *is* safe, it just doesn't *feel* safe at first glance.

1. Everything just works in this hostel, it's super nice. It's sooo big but you feel at home because the rooms are small. 2. Check-in was easy and they let me in some minutes before my time, I loved this caring gesture of the staff, because I was with lots of bags. 3. Bathroom is nice, room is nice too. They have toilet paper (lots) and soap. They have a stall for showering and other with the toilet, andt both have sinks with hot water. 4. Wifi is good. 5. SUPER close to the main train/metro/bus station. Extra:. I met nice people in Hamburg and also at my Hostel. Nothing to do with the hostel itself, but I think it's worth pointing that people there are nice and warm.

1. LOTS of drugged people, homeless and beggars everywhere in the city center. It looks like Zombieland when you're going to the hostel. (It's not the hostel fault, of course, but I think it's worth mentioning). They don't thread you, but is a weird and sinister feeling because there sooo many, like 100 people using and selling drugs in a spot, and more 50 on the other side of the street. 2. They don't have a place to store food and warm it, I have seem some places that at least have microwave or fridges.

The staff were super nice, very knowledgeable and helpful too. The 4 bed dorm we stayed in was very clean as was the bed linen. Breakfast was fresh and tasty, a perfect start to a day's exploring. Very interesting mix of people from all over the world staying at the hostel, had some great conversations about the state of the world..

The hostel is very close to the main train station so it can be rowdy at night.

Probbably the best hostel i've stayed at up to this point. Besides the points that should be expected with a good hostel like it being clean, staff being friendly etc, the following make this hostel stand out for me as a self-employed business traveler: Beds are exceptionally sturdy Beds are practically ready to use, only needed to grab the sheets and pillow from the locker and it's ready to go. Great place to study/work in the lobby with wall power, seperate from the restaurant. Located practically next to the main station (hamburg HBF) This hostel is very affordable. Even when booking the very last minute like i often have to do.

There are a few minor things that annoyed me, but in comparison to the plus points, this doesn't matter nearly as much, but might for someone else. The hostel makes use of very heavy fire retardant doors, that are often also way wider than normal doors. This can require quite a bit of effort to open the doors, especially after a long day and carying a lot of luggage. They do not have a luggage room, only paid lockers as an alternative to store luggage downstairs. The private smoking area is closed at night. If you want to smoke between 10pm and 8am, you have to go outside at the front, and you will get a lot of homeless asking for money or siggarets.
