It is hard to summarize the incredibly wonderful stay we had at the Plaza Grande in Quito but I will try. To start, my wife and I had been traveling all over South America and were literally worn out by the time we reached the Quito airport via flight from Santiago. Our Uber driver was amazing as we slept on the drive from the airport to the hotel. Upon arrival at the Plaza near the hotel, our driver quickly became panic stricken gave us our bags and bid us adios. As it turned out, the President of Ecuador and his 10 car entourage were approaching our corner of the Plaza. We moved our bags aside, waved to the President and walked the few steps to the Hotel. Seeing us approaching the hotel, Richard ran to us, grabbed our bags and welcomed us to hotel. We were greeted with warm wash clothes and complimentary drinks. From that point on, the Staff treated as if we were the President and first lady (literally). Business and pleasure travel have taken us all over the world and only on one other occasion have we been treated so royally (Le Grand Hotel in Cabourg, France). Many people told us the 2 places to stay in Quito were Plaza Grande and the Casa Gangotena. They were wrong. The Plaza Grande is THE place to stay. Rooms are large and beautiful. Our view of the Plaza was breathtaking (btw the Plaza quiets down at night). The bathrooms are massive and every extra you can think of is available in the room. Complimentary wine and chocolates along with an Espresso machine and on and on. The day trip guide the hotel suggested was also amazing and our exploration of the volcanoes were epic. As an aside, the Plaza Grande is possibly the safest hotel in the world as the Palace next door has 24 hours armed guards. A bonus. If you take one major trip this year; visit Ecuador. Spend at least 3 nights in Quito at the Plaza Grande; take day trips to the volcanoes and other sites and (we didn't have the time) go to the Galapagos Islands. It will be the trip of a lifetime.

There was literally nothing we didn't like about the Plaza Grande.

Exceptional service and attention from a wonderful staff that really goes out of their way to please you. Very large and comfortable room that looked more like an apartment, it has a dining room for six people and a full kitchen plus a living room. The lunch and diner menus are extensive and the food is very good

It could improve the breakfast, you select from a menu that has four fixed options, which are practically identical and are the same every day. It could also improve the sound protection of its windows, it gets noisy at times in the Plaza grande

Excellent hotel in the heart of historic Quito. Customer service was outstanding on every level. Very comfortable room. Excellent restaurant with fabulous breakfast menu. Location is fantastic close to everything that matters in Quito and right next to the Presidential Palace

The hotel is a stone's throw from the main plaza. The service and staff are really excellent. Close to museums and major attractions of Quito. Great place to spend a few days in and get to know the city. It is a 40-minute drive to a museum of the equator, which is really interesting and fun.

Excellent location in the Grand Square and easy access to all points in the Old town. A hotel with old charm and and lovely staff.

A very minor gripe ordered scambeled eggs got an omlette probably i need to improve my Spanosh.

the location of the hotel is exceptional, right in the heart of the city and within walking distance to a number of great restaurants. the breakfast was amazing with freshly cut fruit, eggs, toast etc.... and the staff especially Jorge went above and beyond to accommodate our every request

IOn one of the evenings there was a private party on the roof top, which just so happened to be above our room and we were kept awake by the deafening noise and stomping of the attendees, the problem was professionally resolved!!!

Excellent staff who even remembered our names. They also assisted with baggage transfer between hotels and with dinner reservations. All requests were met with a smile and accommodated. Room was extremely spacious and the view of the plaza was excellent - never got tired of looking out of the window each morning, noon, and evening. The windows kept the sounds of the plaza at bay and we heard very little if anything at all. We always opened the windows to hear the church bells toll. Note that during the evening, the plaza was totally empty! Robes were fluffy and bed comforter was heavenly. Breakfast was gratis and paid lunch was fantastic! Great restaurant from which to watch people.

Only one problem was the tap/tub water was light brown. Although we were aware that tap water was not potable (and ample bottled water was supplied) we really could not see the true clarity at the sink or shower, until we filled the jacuzzi to take a tub bath. The volume of water clearly showed the impurities. Be sure to look before you leap.

Excellent position, lovely antique style hotel with great breakfast and really comfortable beds. Extremely helpful staff. Lots of little extras for a great stay.

A top location that I would strongly recommend for any visit to Quito. As the name will tell, the Plaza Grande Hotel is right on the Plaza Grande, that is a stunning masterpiece at the very heart of the UNESCO Heritage site Quito Central area. I chose this hotel primarily for its location, as I wanted to be right at the main historical and artistic hotspot of town, instead of choosing an anonymous, international-chain structure in the newer part of Quito -- and I did it right. I found an excellent hotel, hosted in an historical and perfectly restored building, with incredible rooms (actually suites), all equipped with jacuzzi and (most of them) with a jaw-dropping view on the square (Plaza Grande). Regardless of what you may read, that particular area of the center, between Plaza Grande, San Francisco, Santo Domingo squares and La Ronda, is extremely safe also in the evening, including late evening: I had a long stroll between 9 and 11 PM, all alone, and it was all very quiet, felt (and was) very safe, on streets and squares surrounded by stunning historical buildings, in perfect conservation status, with smart lighting solutions that gave a fantastically well-lit effect. Ask for a suite with view of the square: if they have it available, they will be happy to give you one (I did, and was given one). Staff incredibly and genuinely helpful, proactive and always at disposal.

We had a wonderful stay at Hotel Plaza Grande. The location at Plaza Grande is just faboulus to explore the historical center. The rooms are decorated beautifully and elegantly. The staff was very friendly and did everything to make our stay most pleasureable. The restaurant serves delicious food, we especially enjoyed the "Helados de Paila" - you should definitely order it when you are here.
