The staff and accommodations are wonderful, and we can’t say enough positive things about this beautiful place.

The only thing was that the room was much smaller than we expected.

This place has views unlike any other hotel! It was one of the most lovely and whimsical places I’ve ever stayed. Behind the hotel is a beautiful mountain which seems to always have paragliding happening. The other side is the beautiful lake where you can sit on chairs right next to the water while you eat and drink wine. The character and history of the building was beautiful. The staff was excellent, especially the waiters and waitresses. I am vegan and my boyfriend vegetarian, they were more than happy to make us amazing meals! There is a plant based menu for dinner as well which we were so happy to see. The food is wonderful and beautifully presented. They have a nice parking lot for people who drive there and have bikes you can rent which I highly recommend. We will definitely try to return soon!

The walls of the rooms are a bit thin so you can hear others around you.

The staff’s warmth and professionalism were impeccable, ensuring every moment was seamless and memorable. The cuisine was a delight, with each dish crafted to perfection, complementing the overall experience. The rooms, elegantly appointed, offered both comfort and a sense of refined tranquility. This is a place where time seems to pause, inviting reflection and gratitude for life’s simple joys. I left rejuvenated and eager to return to this extraordinary haven.

The Abbaye was a delightful and memorable place to stay right on the lake in one of the most beautiful parts, with wonderful walks and an idyllic location. The character was superbly preserved, we arrived for just a night to break up a road trip from Italy to the UK and it made a magical stopover which my 7 year old also loved. I can imagine it is glorious in blue skies, we had rain and mist which was also scenic and poetic and it was easy to see why so many poets and artists had been inspired here, including Cezanne who spent a whole summer at the Abbaye. Our room was peaceful and beautifully appointed with antique furniture and overlooked the lake. The staff at the front desk were absolutely lovely and my son will always remember Manon who gave him some colouring pencils for his birthday. The restaurant is excellent but after a long drive my husband and I preferred to have a glass of wine in the historic bar downstairs rather than formal dining, and Manon did lots of lovely little touches of hospitality such as bringing his kids menu of steak and spaghetti for him which made us feel really at home. I also left something in my room which they kindly posted the very same day, altogether such sweet and lovely hospitality the kind of which it is rare to find. The building itself was sensitively restored and not over-done, reminding me of the Landmark Trust properties which you can find in the UK as part of the King’s commitment to national heritage, local materials and spirit of place. A real gem and definitely bookmarked on our map for future journeys.

Beautiful building in an unbeatable location. Truly wonderful. Very friendly staff, nice breakfast, fantastic lake view and lovely private dock for sunbathing and swimming.

The only thing that was weird was that there were no water glasses in the spa. "Bring the ones from the towel bag in your room" it said but first of all - that's a bit late when you are already in the spa, and second, there were not water glasses in our bag. Small thing but just not in line with the upscale feeling of the place.

My wife and I were there twice this month. This time, the staff very kindly upgraded us to an amazing suite, with a stunning view both on the lake and the beautiful gardens. The room was ready slightly in advance vs. standard check-in time. The suite was beautiful and had a fantastic charm. We enjoyed reading about the history of Talloires and the Abbaye in a booklet in the room. The staff also kindly showed us around and made us appreciate the beauty of the building. We had a lovely breakfast outside with the incredible view on the lake. Resting and swimming at the lake and at the spa was perfect. Thank you Abbaye staff. We will be back again and recommend your hotel!

The place is absolutely gorgeous, beautiful lake view, walking path along the bank, atmospheric building of the old abbey with creaking floors and the smell of the old wood.

There are couple of observations to be aware of. The hotel is marked as pet friendly, but you will not be allowed to enter restaurant with your pet. For the breakfast our family with a puppy was suggested to be seated in a lobby area which we would not expect of this level facility. There is a parking area which belongs to the hotel - which is lacking capacity and normally is overloaded when the hotel is fully booked. You will be suggested to leave your car keys at the reception, so that personnel could move your car depending on the necessity.

The hotel is located near the lake Annecy and it is very pictureque. It is very quiet and serene. Breakfast has high quality. The male staff at breakfast hall was attentive and very friendly. The hotel building is very interesting. We felt like living in the mansion in the old days. However, facilities inside hotel and the room are convenient and comfortable. The valet parking guy was very friendly and helpful.

This fine hotel has honed its perfection over many years without losing any of its flavor and freshness. This latest stay was no exception to the experiences we have shared here with family and friends. The food for breakfast and in the dining room is inventive and satisfying for the taste as well as the presentation. The staff are professional, friendly and excellent guides through the facilities and the menus. The cellar is replete with delights. We had a Côte du Rhône white which had been exquisitely developed, for a very reasonable price. It you have the opportunity to stay at the Abbaye, this refined establishment will fulfill all your expectations. Looking forward to our next visit. Linda and Jean-Guy

The setting is very pleasant

I didn’t like it when the fire alarm went off in the middle of the night at nearly 4am. There were no hotel staff present to supervise or inform the residents during the evacuation night when the fire alarm rang. The situation was made even worse after to returning to our rooms and getting back to bed, when the fire alarm rang again and we had to evacuate again. I was told the following day that both of these incidents were false alarms. Our sleep was severely disrupted that night. I had expected that there would be a formal apology to the residents, and that there would have been some monetary gesture of goodwill to make up for the inconvenience and very poor service. Alas nothing so far !
