Great location in Alistadt (old city) of Freiburg. We had the family suite, which was quite roomy, and the windows let in breeze. The staff was very friendly. It was a close walk to Cathedral. We took a cab from the train station to the place, but got help to use the bus metro back to the train station, which was very manageable. Got brats at market around Cathedral, but hotel has outside Cafe. Nice breakfast included inside their hotel with German decor surrounding the sitting.

We had a family suite, but really just 2 beds, a couch without a pullout, and a fold out cot. Our daughter slept on the couch. With careful arranging, a small twin could probably fit in there. They could use a fan when there isn't a breeze because it's on the third floor and can get warm.

We loved this little inn in Freiburg's old town. It's perfectly located; right near the brewery and just off a lovely lane of shops and boutiques, so it feels lively but still calm and safe at the same time. The hotel staff were very friendly and accommodating, the breakfast was lovely, and the room had everything we needed. It was small, but we expected this as we booked a basic room and it had everything included as shown in the photos online. The bed, pillows and duvets were more comfortable than some of the bigger luxury hotels we stayed in elsewhere in Europe, and while the bathroom is little, it had a very convenient niche where you can put your clothes and toiletries while showering.

We liked everything about the property and would absolutely stay again. However some travellers might find it useful to be aware that there may be some noise if your room is near the stairs. Ours was on the first floor and we could hear other hotel guest going up and down the stairs at different times, which was only an issue if it was early in the morning. For us, this wasn't a problem as this is what we would consider normal for a small inn in a little town, and overall we loved the experience.

If you are after staying in a traditional, old fashioned , quaint hotel, the Sichelschmiede ticks all the boxes. The location in the old town centre, with shops and restaurants at your doorstep, cannot be beaten. The room was spacious and cozy, furnished in a more traditional rather than a modern way. The included breakfast was continental only ,but in saying that there was a good amount of choice: cold cuts and cheeses, jams, bread, yoghurt, cereal, juice and tea and coffee.

If you are after a modern hotel with lot's of amenities the more traditional Sichelschmiede might not be for you. There is no check in desk, you'll have to find a staff member to sign you in and give you your keys. There is no lobby to hang out in, nor there is a lift.

Cobblestone streets surrounding the old tavern, ivy clinging to the windows and the canal right next to the gasthaus sitting area. The breakfast was modest but perfect for a day's traveling through the Schwarzwald. It was a magical property.

The lack of a fridge is inexcusable at this day and age, even if it was a small barfridge in which to store and cool water (or cheese) during summer. A bit difficult to get to from the Freiburg Hbh with any luggage other than backpacks as well, but that's a small issue compared to the lack of a fridge.

The staff was very friendly, and I loved the traditional German breakfast served in a charming little part of the hotel. The hotel managed to be both quiet and yet conveniently located within the center of the city. I liked the energy of the hotel restaurant with service just below my room and along the canal, but at the same time the room was buttoned up tight enough that you couldn't hear any noise with the windows closed.

Having seen some of the ratings, I didn't have very high expectations. I liked the vintage look of the place, the location is amazing if you need to be in the city centre and the area around the hotel is very pretty. Also, it seemed to be a quiet area as well. Everything in my room was very clean, the towels were changed everyday. The breakfast buffet was not as big and broad as it is at bigger hotels, but I think it's because of the size of this hotel and this didn't bother me at all. The sitting area was very, very nice and cosy. The staff were all very kind and helpful. I really had a good time.

The only issue I had in some mornings was that there was a lot of noise and I would have liked to sleep a little bit longer.

Upon our arrival the staff were very friendly and assisted us with our luggage up to our room 1 flight up. Our room was lovely and very comfortable. The bed was super comfy and the duvet felt like you were in a cloud 😊 Breakfast was provided each morning as was a typical German breakfast and was very good. We had dinner in the restaurant and the food was delicious ! The location was perfect for exploring the Alstadt.

The location is great. The breakfast is acceptable (not great, but acceptable for this price range). The staff were very helpful in checking in. One just tells someone working in the restaurant that you are checking into the hotel (and then they were very quick to help even during busy dinner hour when I arrived.)

It wasn't clear upon arrival, but there is no official hotel check-in desk, but once asking someone working in the restaurant, it was settled easily.

A beautiful hustoric hotel and excellent restaurant in a lovely setting, beside cobbled streets and a charming little bridge over the stream in Freiburg Old Town. The hotel was full of character, as was my room, if a little basic. Excellent self-service buffet breakfast, with an array of choices, in a very historic room, with beams. Some of the staff were very friendly, helpful and interactive.

No kettle, fridge or air-con, which neant I had to leave my window open at night (luckily not too noisy). Shower didn't drain at all well and had a very flimsy shower curtain. Room not cleaned, nor towels replaced until my third day, as it seemed there had been a mix-up about what room I was in and how long my booking. So I had to show definite confirmation of my booking for 4 nights, not the 3 they had thought, confirmed when they checked their bookings. Room a bit smaller than the rooms had looked in photos, but a very nice view of a cobbled historic street. No separate reception.

It was behind a beautiful walking area with a creek flowing . It's very rustic. Delicious dinner.

Breakfast was small. A few people ahead of us took most of the food, and it was never replaced . Not very friendly people except for one waiter. Our room was next to the stairs and was very noisy. Difficult area to park if using a car.
