July 2025

My husband and I stayed at the Schwarzer Bock (Black Ibex or Mountain Goat) under odd circumstances. We had rented an apartment in Wiesbaden which was lovely otherwise but had no air conditioning. A massive heatwave hit the city and we just couldn't sleep without A/C, so we booked the Schwarzer Bock for six nights, and we have no regrets! This hotel began as a bathhouse in 1486 (yes, really) and its current Radisson incarnation combines some hard-to-find classic features with modern conveniences. The rooms are fully air conditioned, so don't be put off by the fact that the halls are not. The ceilings are high and the mattresses are extremely comfortable: they worked both for me, a person who prefers a softer bed, and my husband who likes it to be more firm. Our room was big, with plenty of storage, plush bathrobes and towels that really dry. The shower was ample and tall enough for my 6'3" husband, and it had a non-slip floor, a huge relief for someone like me whose sense of balance isn't great. There was a small fridge and a hot water heater for instant coffee, cocoa or tea. One of the truly rare and lovely features of this older building is the double doors at the entrance to each room. You hear no noise from the hall and no light comes in under the door. Bliss! The bathhouse/spa is still there (but updated) and though we didn't take advantage of that complex, we saw a lot of folks in bathrobes heading that way. The bar has outdoor seating and the breakfast, which is not overpriced, is served both in the restaurant and in an interior courtyard with big umbrellas and lovely planters. This hotel has wonderful historic features like the Ingelheimer Zimmer, a room lined and ceilinged with carved wooden panels from the 17th century. And to top it all off, it's across the street from Wiesbaden's biggest hot spring and steps away from the pedestrian zone.

I'm trying to think of something either my husband or I didn't like! Two things could be improved: the window curtains let quite a bit of light in at the sides, and the faucet on the sink doesn't reach far enough over the sink, so water splashes onto the surround when you use it. Also, I gather parking is limited and most guests have to park in a public parking lot about six blocks away after unloading. Otherwise, we were completely satisfied. There's even a taxi stand across the street!

It's a nice historical hotel in Wiesbaden. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The bar staff at Bar-1486 were exceptional. We were there 5 nights and tried to experience every cocktail from the list! Our room was spacious and perfect for 2 people.

Check-in took a very long time as there was only 1 member of staff on the desk who could handle payment. We had booked a twin room via Booking.com but on arrival this information had not been passed across to the hotel despite messaging prior. In the end, they upgraded us to a twin suite.

I enjoyed the elegant and quiet ambience of the hotel. It gives a feeling of serenity and calm especially as you walk into the foye from a bustling street outside. The room was spacious and with all the expected amenities.

I stayed three times and had several encounters with 4 different staff at the reception and every encounter was different - from very pleasant to quite disappointing or even rather discouraging. Rooms facing the street are not soundproof and at times it can be a challenge to fall asleep especially on weekends.

The Art Deco foyer with a beautiful curving staircase. Modern bedroom with a large bathroom. The spa facilities, although fully booked during our stay. Car Parking in the Kurhaus Parkhaus, offered at a discounted rate, was secure and easy to use. The bar, with a talented pianist/ singer, on Saturday evening.

The room was quite a distance from the lifts and includes a number of smaller staircases. I have a knee replacement and found this difficult. A delicious and very varied breakfast buffet is on offer for €26, we felt we couldn’t eat so much and went elsewhere. An alternative smaller menu would have been appreciated.

Very nice hotel in a great location. Lots of bars and restaurants within a short walk. Also a supermarket for supplies. Bus stop right outside the hotel with buses every 10 mins to Nerobergbahn, museums , train station etc. Also a taxi rank just across the road. Room was a good size, very clean, comfortable and quiet. Loved the fact that it also had a kettle, tea, coffee and an empty fridge to store drinks. Complimentary bottled water every day was most welcome as it was very hot while we were there. Great breakfast with freshly cooked options as well as the usual hot and cold buffet. Very pleasant helpful staff (with one exception at breakfast!). Would definitely recommend.

After booking in for breakfast with the staff member at the entrance to the restaurant, we were getting our food when another member of staff challenged us in a rude manner as to whether we were hotel guests. We were very embarrassed! He should have asked the person at the entrance desk.

Fantastic old hotel in the heart of town. Great location walking distance to great shopping and restaurants. Room was modern and bed was amazingly comfortable! Second time I have stayed here and would not stay anywhere else. The breakfast is amazing with quality fresh breads, fruits, cheeses and eggs. First rate!

Parking is tight and cheaper parking than what they offer at the hotel is a 5 min walk at the Coulinstrasse garage. 16 euros for 24 hours.

Located in a good location to some major sites. Parking was very tricky but likely they offer paid parking in a safe casino near by. The beds were very comfortable and clean. We liked having access to a hot kettle in the room. Water pressure was lovely and the view of the street was nice. The breakfast is very tasty and so vast.

Breakfast was good but more staff is required here. Dishes kept pilling and no one was cleaning them off the tables. I had to personally hand the plates to the servers many times since we were a large group.

Grand old spa hotel renovated to modern standards. Excellent breakfast. Very central location. Friendly and helpful staff. My go-to hotel whenever I’m in Wiesbaden. Highly recommended!

Spa area, although connected to the hotel, is now run by a separate company. So you have to bring your own towels, etc. I liked it much better when the hotel ran the whole thing.

I stayed here with my mother for 3 nights and had an incredible experience. The hotel is lovely, well maintained, comfortable and quiet. It's very centrally located. The absolute best thing about our stay was the staff - before and during our trip, they went above and beyond to help us with whatever we needed and were so friendly and kind. I'm so grateful to them! Highly recommended staying at the Radisson Schwarzer Bock hotel if you're in Wiesbaden.

It's a very minor observation: I had to unplug a lamp or fridge to plug in the coffee machine, which isn't convenient. I would also recommend having some milk available alongside the tea and coffee in the room.

The room was large and comfortable. The hotel bar was nice and convenient. Location was close to two bus stops. Restaurants and cafes were within easy walking distance.

The hotel staff do not maintain a presence near the reception area. It was quite common to wait for someone to show. Smokers congregated right outside the front entrance (including the receptionist) which made it difficult to get to the main entrance.
