Our stay at Amara Ayurveda Retreat in Kovalam was truly wonderful. Right from the start, the team showed incredible hospitality—when we arrived a day late, they graciously pushed our stay forward without any extra cost. That level of understanding immediately set the tone for a heartfelt experience. The Ayurvedic therapies were the highlight of our trip. My wife absolutely loved her full-body massage with Gita, who was caring and skilled. I also had a deeply relaxing session with a therapist (a tall gentleman with a mustache) who was equally excellent—both of them made us feel at ease and completely rejuvenated. The saltwater swimming pool was another gem, soothing and refreshing after the treatments. Breakfast was delicious and thoughtfully catered to our preferences. While the traditional South Indian dishes were absolutely authentic and flavorful, the staff happily prepared eggs and omelettes for us as well—something we really appreciated. The serene greenery, warm staff, and the attention to detail in every corner made this retreat more than just a stay—it was a healing experience. We left feeling lighter, refreshed, and deeply grateful. Highly recommended for anyone looking for genuine Ayurveda, peace, and wellness in Kerala. 🌿✨

The staff are like a family. Service is personal and kind and never rushed. The food is excellent. The Ayurvedic treatment stands in a compound of its own and is run by a highly perceptive doctor of ancient and modern medicine. His therapists are beyond great: their hard work and thoroughness are exceeded only by their sincere and devout passion for their healing work. I had the great fortune to be treated by two male therapists, Shibindas and Sadish. Their dedication and divinely inspired sense of mission at work came straight from their hearts. To the this not just a job, it's a vocation - one requiring great empathy and subtlety. I can't recommend these two more.

I liked the whole set-up very much.

This is a beautiful resort not too far from Kovalam Bay where you can catch a Sunset swim and the best view of the Arabian Sea. If you unable to get to the bay for Sunset, you have Amara for peace, tranquility and a sunrise every morning that takes your breath away. The valley is vast and the resort has been done in a way that you have elegant simple luxury that reminds you of nature, and how we can live mindfully. The pool is so lovely, the rooms are wonderful, the staff is incredible and the meals have been carefully planned around the Ayurveda clinic that has the most incredible doctor and therapists taking care of you. I highly recommend Amara. Thank you for taking care of me and my yoga queens.

The retreat is very good! Lovely staff , great treatments which we were able to book on the same day. Breakfast was good, and there were good choices for lunch and dinner. The retreat is very calming and all you hear are the animals in the trees and a few dogs barking every now and again which isn’t unusual for India. We ventured out at night and a tuk tuk was needed, which wasn’t a problem to arrange. The room was lovely and spacious with a very nice balcony. Bed was very comfortable , unfortunately our 14 yr old daughter had to lie on a pullout sofa bed which was really bad and had different level joins in it. We should’ve let reception know but we didn’t, so can’t say if it could’ve been changed. Overall a really lovely place.

The spare bed (sofa bed) terrible. The pool was lovely but being shaded in parts by overhanging trees needed to be cleaned more from the leaves that fell.

Loved everything about the property mainly its location and the pool . It’s surrounded in lush green medicinal plants bushes and trees and you are cut off to the outside world which is exactly what I was after. It offers a tranquil and calming environment and the pool is so inviting with rustic surroundings . The lakes and quarries that surrounds it makes it even more special.

Nothing at all !!! They will soon be getting buggies which will make it easier for elderly gusts like my mum to be transported to the Ayirvedic treatment centre with ease as it’s slightly on a slope but she managed anyway .

The location was amazing.Peaceful and quiet with a lovely view of the mountains. Everything was very clean. The rooms were one of the best I have seen. Very tastefully decorated and has all amenities needed.The staff was very friendly and kind.The food was made fresh and also quite tasty.

The Amara Ayurveda Retreat is a small but beautiful place hidden away in the mountains but only a short drive from Kovalam Beach. The resort is beautifully kept and the staff have been welcoming and extremely friendly and helpful. The breakfast buffet was exceptional with the chef cooking eggs and other treats to order. The food for lunch/dinner was super tasty - a great selection and great value for money. The saltwater pool was refreshing and because of the size of the resort, it was never crowded. We also made use of the ayurveda treatment options, which we'd highly recommend. Great value for money and very relaxing. We could've easily spent all day there without ever leaving.

The place is very hidden away and the roads up to it quite bumpy and a bit dodgy looking. Some of our taxi drivers were a bit confused on where to go but managed to find it after all. A new building is currently under construction to accommodate more guests in the future. While there was some construction noise, it wasn't disruptive at all.

The place is clean, the rooms are spacious, the surroundings are nice even if not close to the beach.

Beautiful setting & gardens. Restaurant food was really good but breakfast could have been better. Manu & Anthony at the front desk were really helpful. Comfortable beds.

Worst & most miserable check in not friendly or welcoming which was very unusual for India. No fridge in the room. Staff were either really good or miserable. Lacking attention to detail in some areas. Access road.

Beautiful setting in the starry hillside surrounded by fruit trees overlooking the Western Ghats. I was greeted on the first day by a wild monkey happily munching away in a tamarind tree. Delightful. Very helpful and considerate staff. Overall excellent dining. The Yoga and Ayurveda facilities were busy with a yoga retreat group during my stay but it was still a peaceful and relaxing visit and the dining offered some of the best Ayurvedic food that I've found thus far in Kerala. Hope to stay longer next time and perhaps bring a yoga retreat group here too!
