This hotel reminds me of the old school service one used to receive in the '50s at Annex style hotels. Established in 1949, as far as I'm concerned, you can't do better in Mumbai than the Elphinstone. The staff are excellent. The beds are very comfortable. The Wi-Fi is quick and the breakfast is decent. They offer an on-site laundry service as well as a foreign exchange service if you need it at reasonable rates. I literally had all of my needs met and more. They even stored my luggage for me while I made a side trip. The manager in his team directed me to all of the local sites which believe it or not were within a reasonable walking distance. The location is perfect.

The hotel is in a good location, very close to CSMT Station which is excellent if you’re arriving/leaving by train. The hotel itself is clean and well kept. The ceilings are high and it has a traditional character to it. Our room was a good size, the bed comfortable and the bathroom well maintained and clean. All members of staff were very helpful and polite. We would definitely stay here again.

The hotel is on the first floor of the building and the entrance does not reflect the quality of the hotel above. However, once you realise this, it isn’t a problem.

Central location easy to walk everywhere (if you are fit). Very clean. Staff were very helpful. Daily papers.

The entrance off the street is quite shabby. The hotel id on the first floor and when I walked in I was pleasantly surprised as the hotel is lovely. The down stairs entrance belies the quality of the hotel.

This is a well-run hotel. There was good communication in advance of my stay to confirm my arrival time, etc. Check-in was quick, and I was given a street plan of South Mumbai. I found my deluxe room very comfortable and it had unexpected things like a free safe and fridge. The bed was comfortable and the linen was new-looking and clean. The bathroom was clean and the shower pressure was great. The A/C and room lighting were both excellent, as was the wi-fi. A nice complimentary breakfast was included each morning - an omelette and toast or an Indian dish. The staff were polite, helpful, and efficient in all areas of the hotel. Remember that it's a 2 star hotel, so don't be unreasonable in your expectations. The hotel provides excellent value for money.

There is a bit of external noise from traffic or a business situated behind the hotel.The hotel's location is handy for all the main sights, but you will either need to take a taxi or have a 30-40 minutes not-so-pleasant walk.

The Wi-Fi was top-notch. High speed, near zero latency, dependable. I guess having fewer rooms helped, but they really nailed that bit. This was a wonderful place to stay for the price I paid for it. The place was clean, the service was great and the breakfast was also fine. the common areas were also well-kept and useful.

My biggest issue has got to be a total lack of ventilation. They tried hard to help by cleaning the room well, but there should have been some ventilation in the room and/or the bathroom. The room was small, and if they could have made a space to properly open up my suitcase, that would have been awesome. There wasn't enough room on the floor or cupboards so I had to use one of the beds.

Great staff, makes you feel at home. Good breakfast, not much of a range of options but filling.

There was ventilation in the bathrooms or the room, which made things a little stuffy. Technically there is no way around this but keep the AC on all the time.

The staff were amazing. The property is located above some retail/ food premises (1st floor) accessed via stairs only - staff will be waiting for your arrival to carry your luggage up to your room. Breakfast is served in the lobby/ corridor which is actually very pleasant. The neighbourhood is quite commercial/ industrial, but within either a very short bus journey (2 stops) or 10 minute walk of the main Fort area of Mumbai. We found independent travel to all the major sights and famous restaurants very easy indeed!

We had no complaints and feel this hotel is functional. It was clear that many international travellers were equally pleased with the property.

The rooms were clean and the beds were comfortable. Breakfast was good and plentiful. The staff is very professional and one feels that they are sincerely concerned about your well being. We were able to exchange money at the reception and they gave us excellent recommendations about where to eat in the area.

The location is behind the station and the streets around the hotel are not in such good condition. However within a 15 min walk across the train tracks you are already in a more commercial district. It’s a short taxi trip to the Fort or Gateway of India.

Once you step inside you leave the mayhem of Mumbai behind. Excellent service by the entire staff, we had a great stay and felt very welcome. Breakfast is served in a hallway and the menu changes daily. In the afternoon and evenings people will enjoy each other's company here, it has a nice vibe. Would definitely stay here again.

The rooms have windows to the hallway, so you have only indirect daylight and no ventilation, on a positive side it stays quite inside. The hotel is on a junction, good places to eat are a 20 minute walk, although there's two bars with a decent menu on the ground floor.

Amazing service by the staff, deluxe room was very comfortable, breakfast was amazing and different everyday. The best are the receptionist which super helpful, they helped with all my needs. They changed my money for me at a great rate, helped me understand the trains system, etc..

The road outside is a bit busy and is hard to cross (i just followed locals closely to do it) but that is not the hotels fault. But on the other hand is easy and well connected to everything i used uber to move around and local train Masjid station is just a 8min walk
