We booked a deluxe double but were at first given a standard room. However, when we questioned this we were given a suite which was very nice. The hotel is located by the station in a pleasant tree-lined street, about 5 minutes walk from the pedestrian zone. The main door was locked and we had to wait a moment for someone to open a side door. Not sure if this was a technical or security issue. There is parking behind the hotel and several spaces reserved for the hotel on the street. We elected to leave our motorbikes on the street and the receptionist suggested we move them nearer the door. There were no security issues during our stay and the bikes were fine.

The room mix-up though it was quickly sorted out.

Conveniently close to the railway station and only a short walk to the centre. I had a comfortable, attractively decorated suite with a sofa in a small secondary area with a second TV and coffee/tea making facilities which was very nice for resting after lots of walking. There is also a relaxing ground floor reception area with sofas and a bar. The in-house restaurant is pleasant with unpretentious food and the staff are attentive and helpful.

By no means a minus point but I should have allowed a bit of time for working out which switches and controls operated what in which room and prevent the second TV, which had a mind of its own, turning itself back on just as you have settled under the covers…

The staff was incredibly “gentile”, we traveled in the middle of “ferroagosto” and they went out of their way to help us find a restaurant that would be open. The breakfast and caffe latte were delicious. Pavia was at the end of our walking trip in the Vía Francigena and they were the only place in Pavia to be able to give us the “timbro”💕

The only Issue we had was with the air conditioner that was making some noise and they took care of that immediately.

The hotel is located opposite the main train station. Our room was small but comfortable with drawers and clothes hanging spaces with coat hangers; kettle with drinks sachets; TV, safe, fridge stocked with payable drinks and snacks; bathroom with shower and plenty of towels; air con and an opening window. Breakfast was self service cold meats, cheeses, rolls, croissants, cereals, fruits, yogurts, American pancakes with a variety of spreads - coffee, scrambled eggs and toast was ordered through the waitress. There is a bar with seating and any drinks ordered were accompanied with a variety of snacks. The hotel has some great artwork! The hotel is situated about a 10min walk from Piazza della Vittoria which is the main square by the cathedral - numerous cafes and restaurants, great for relaxing and watching Italian life and very lively at night. To finish I would say the hotel staff are friendly and very helpful - Elena, a receptionist, booked a hairdresser appointment for me; another gentleman (whose name I didn't get) recommended and booked an excellent restaurant which met all our needs and requirements (2 dogs, 2 young children, 8 adults). I would thoroughly recommend a stay at Hotel Moderno.

Our room was on the small side but as we were not in it much it didn't really matter to us.

The hotel is located right across from the train station, so it's very easy to reach. The staff were uniformly helpful and pleasant. The breakfast buffet had a good assortment of pastries, cold cuts, yogurts, and fruits. We had a special room with a balcony. The towels were outstanding!

The mattress was a bit lumpy, and the air conditioning (if it went on, which wasn't clear) was not very effective.

This is a beautiful hotel right by the station in Pavia - the staff are so kind and friendly - we had a very early train and they opened the breakfast room for us at 5.15am and even offered to cook scrambled eggs for us - I have never been offered more than a soggy sandwich and water when leaving too early for breakfast before. There is a cozy bar area and sweets in the lobby.The rooms are lovely and the lift showers wifi are all great. We had a wonderful few days there.

Everything was brilliant

Very kind and flexible staff, with very good English. You can pre-book parking place, which is very close.

No hall door, so no door between the bed and the corridor door – there was but they dismounted; although it would be very useful to isolate noises. The hotel overlooks the railway and bus station. So creepy faces around the hotel; they are harmless, but not a good feeling. No tea making facility in the room. Pavia is not a very tourist friendly city: receptionist recommended 3 cocktail bars – 2 of them was close at (Sunday) 10 p.m. Both were open next day 10 a.m. The restaurant which the receptionist recommended is a cellar. But it is almost fine dining. But without English language menu. After we asked, they were not kind anymore.

The hotel was ok. The staff was friendly and helpful. The room was clean and comfortable. Additionally, the hotel provided breakfast, which was a nice touch. There were several options available, and I appreciated the effort put into providing a range of choices. The location was good, close to all the good restaurants.

The only downside was that the facility is a little bit old. The furniture was a bit dated and the pressure in the shower is a bit worn. The window curtain in the bathroom didn't close completely so at night it wasn't difficuls to see me walking around naked after a shower as the bathroom was facing the street.

Staff were very friendly and helpful when I needed to book dinner reservations. Great location, nice breakfast as well.

The room was quite warm even though I was there in April. Thankfully the window would open. But the AC wasn't blowing cold air - I think it was a just a fan.

The room was spacious, impeccably clean, and offered a stunning view of the station. I was pleasantly surprised by the modern decor and comfortable bed in our room, making our stay incredibly relaxing. The room amenities exceeded our expectations, with a luxurious bathroom and a cosy seating area."

Our stay was absolutely fantastic, and with just a bit faster Wi-Fi, it would be perfect.
