We booked the room with a private onsen and a view of Mount Fuji and it was lovely! Spacious, clean, with good amenities. Staff was friendly and courteous. Unfortunately, I didn’t get his name but the male receptionist was especially helpful during our stay!
The buffet and location. While there was a good variety of Japanese and Western dishes, the food was just okay. We definitely couldn’t eat it more than 2 days in a row though since the menu barely changes. But more importantly the location. There are 2 ways to get here via public transportation, the Ubako bus stop and Ubako Ropeway. The ropeway is open dependent on weather conditions and we weren’t sure if we were allowed to have luggage so we opted for the bus. The traffic around the main street of Hakone is bad and it delays the bus tremendously, to the point where you can’t rely on the bus stop times listed. A shuttle from a train station would greatly help this issue.

Since we have tattoos, the private onsen with a view of Mt Fuji was great. Food in the food court was a good selection of western food and Japanese food. Plenty of soda, juice, coffee options. Everyone was very friendly. Would stay again.
The gardens outside were beautiful with blooming hydrangeas but it was little overgrown so the view of Mt Fuji was a little obstructed. The water in our outdoor never fully turned off... not a big deal. not my water. But the property is older so some minor maintenance things like that. These were not a big deal to us at all, but just thought other people should know it doesn't quite match the pictures anymore but we would still definitely stay here again.

Onsen & location , buffet dinner , view & room size . Opening outside door ,
Poor direction to arrive at property . We had Hakone pass and still had to get taxi to location from bus route . Local bus only close unless travelling by rope way with luggage

Breakfast and dinner is buffet style, tasty and lots of choices. Onsen in the room is great! Beds are comfortable.
Location is not convenient, especially when the cable car service is stopped. Some decoration inside the hotel is quite old.

Outside onsen was really nice Big variety of food in dinner including western and vegetarian options Overall good value for money in the area
The whole hotel is a bit outdated, including Onsen area Food is not very fancy, there is indeed a lot of variety but the quality is not great Staff members weren’t so welcoming

The Mt Fuji views were amazing. We enjoyed the onsen experience each day. The ropeway was easy to get to and took us to the lake and into gora, so we could explore surrounding attractions. There was a beautiful Christmas performance with a pianist, violinist and viola player, as well as complimentary Christmas drinks at dinner. The buffet breakfast and dinner had a good variety of Japanese and Japanese style Western food - all very good quality and fresh. Staff were lovely.
The location was both great and challenging. The closest transport is the ropeway- like a cable car- and signage stated last trip 4.15pm. The buses didn’t run to the timetable and after waiting 50 minutes for a bus (3 didn’t show), we missed the last trip- walked the 20 minutes back to the hotel up a very steep hill. Few taxis available and the hotel shuttle phone number went to message bank. Despite this hiccup, we loved our time at hotel green plaza.

There was a magnificent view of Mt. Fuji from our bedroom window. The buffet had a wide selection, with options that could be made for you at the counter. We were lucky to be there the night of a lobby concert, where the string triplet JEWEL (https://www.hgp.co.jp/hakone/gallery) played the audiences favourites.
We were unluckily there while the Togendai/Ubako ropeway was under scheduled maintenance, and were left quite confused regarding how to reach the hotel. While there was enough information to let us know that this would be the case, some information told us that we'd need to book a taxi from Togendai as the replacement coaches would skip Ubako. Thankfully this wasn't the case, and there were coaches to take us there, however it would have been nice to know this in advance from the hotel.

The view of Mt. Fuji is exceptional! We stayed in a Western/Japanese style room with a view of Mt. Fuji (only because the rooms with private onsen were no longer available). We literally stared at the mountain all evening and again the next morning - majestic! You wouldn't need a room with a view though if it's not available because there is a perfect spot in the garden and from the public onsens (which are also stunning) to catch sight of the mountain. It's a bit of a trek to get to the hotel (via a 1 hour bus ride from the train station in Odawara or a combination of train and cable car (the hotel is literally a 5 minute walk from the 2nd last cable car stop) or a 40 minute taxi ride. Dinner and breakfast are served buffet style with lots to choose from (sushi was excellent and they provide individual hotpot which made for a fun experience). The only downside for us were the beds and pillows - which offered very little comfort.
The beds and pillows were really uncomfortable. The hotel is isolated (perfect if that's what you are going for), so just be prepared for the journey to get there (which is well worth it for the view). The hotel is dated but well maintained so this wasn't a challenge for us.

Hotel Green Plaza Hakone is a wonderful Japanese-style spa resort that offers a true retreat experience. We stayed one night in a spacious Japanese-Western room, which had two Western beds and a large tatami seating area that converted into a cozy futon sleeping space—sleeping on a futon was surprisingly comfortable! Yes, it takes a little effort to get there (train, cable car, gondola from Odawara Station), but that’s part of the charm. Once you arrive, you’re at the foot of Mt. Fuji, surrounded by nature, and fully immersed in a traditional onsen atmosphere. The lobby offers complimentary tea in the afternoons, but you’ll want to be out exploring—Lake Ashi, nearby sulfur springs (don’t miss the famous black eggs!), and stunning views are all close by. In the evening, most guests wear their hotel-provided yukata and slippers to dinner, which adds to the charm. Dinner is a highlight—an all-you-can-eat buffet featuring made-to-order sushi, sashimi, tempura, soba, curry, sukiyaki, carved steak, and more (our daughter went back six times!). Drinks are extra, but there’s a full bar. After dinner, unwind in the onsen baths, open until midnight—definitely a must-do. While we weren’t the only foreigners, the hotel seems to cater mostly to a local crowd, which we really appreciated. Staff speak English and made everything easy. After the fast pace of Tokyo, Hakone offered the perfect slow-down. This stay was one of the most memorable parts of our trip.
In the lobby, It sometimes smelled of cleaning products.

Outstanding dinner and breakfast (included in the price), so many choices, sashimi, sushi, and fresh seafood were outstanding and I even didn't have enough room in my stomach to try other dishes or the desserts. The Onsen was nice with very good hair and facial products. Normally you could see Mt Fuji from the open air Onsen. But there was big fog when we arrived. The next day morning we saw Mt Fuji from the viewing point of the hotel.
The bathroom facility was like in the eighties, but it was clean and sufficient. If you're looking for luxury style, then this is not your choice. But I washed myself at the Onsen, so barely used the bathroom. The location was a bit tricky, we had our luggages sent to the hotel, otherwise it would be troublesome to carry them to the hotel. We travelled to motohakone by bus directly from Tokyo, then took the boat to Togendai Port, from there you can take the ropeway, 1st stop will be Ubako, here is where the hotel is located. You can find an instruction at the ropeway station to show you the direction to go to the hotel, just a small path to walk for 3 minutes. There's also a direct bus to go to the hotel from Odawara station, but that is not included in the Hakone free pass.
