Location on the lake and views across to Mt Fuji was beautiful. The hotel has a shuttle bus to Moto Hakone and a coach from Ottawara train station. Rooms were a good size and comfortable.

The hotel has no bar for guests to use unless you are a member of the hotel. The surrounding cafes and shops open late and close early so only lake views to admire. The first hotel shuttle bus to the local town of Moto Hakone doesn’t leave until 11.30am so as a tourist not ideal. The option of a taxi when we enquired was not available unless pre booked the day before. The walk to town is not possible along the lake so you need to walk on the road in many parts. A fabulous business meeting location.

Very grand and beautiful hotel with great view of Mount Fuji from the garden area. Large room with very comfortable beds and pillows.

Hotel has 3 restaurants though all very expensive. We had dinner at the buffet restaurant and very nice selection though this was our most expensive dinner and didn't think it was value for money compared to other great restaurants we visited in Japan.

The Hakone Prince Hotel is a stunning embodiment of Japanese hospitality, blending traditional charm with modern comfort. Nestled in the serene beauty of Hakone, it’s a perfect retreat for relaxation, especially for special occasions like our honeymoon. The rooms are spacious, elegantly designed, and impeccably maintained, offering a true taste of Japanese-style luxury. The views from the hotel are nothing short of breathtaking, with nature’s beauty unfolding right outside your window. Hakone itself is an idyllic spot to unwind, and this hotel elevates the experience. Overall, we had a wonderful stay and highly recommend the Hakone Prince Hotel for its incredible ambiance, gorgeous views, and tranquil setting - perfect for a memorable getaway!.

However, a slight downside was the Japanese restaurant on-site. While the dinner was enjoyable, it felt overpriced for what was offered, marking the first time we felt the cost didn’t quite match the experience.

Top notch staff, very helpful and polite. The facility was clean, the room was spacious enough for 4 adults. The AC controls were really good—not too cold, not too hot. We greatly appreciated the pajamas (we’d have bought some if they were on sale!). The onsen was perfect. The location is remote, but the sunrise on the lake is stunning, and the access to areas to visit is somewhat very manageable. The noise insulation is also amazing considering we were with children, in the annex where other families with young kids were staying and we heard absolutely nothing from the other rooms. Extra point for having kid size pajama and amenities.

None of us have tattoos, but I find extremely disappointing to see no tattoos sign in these days and age. I’m a long term resident and I do know Japanese society’s historical view on tattoos, but knowing you cater to a wide range of tourists do call for adjustment like done in more friendly onsen regions of Japan. For me that’s a huge minus in recommending to friends what is otherwise a very fine hotel. My only other remarks and they’re very minor, is the lack of free shuttle (from Odawara) in the morning, as well as the limited product variety of the hotel store. We did manage, having anticipated ahead of time.

Room was huge with a beautiful view of the lake. Well decorated and landscaped outdoors and indoor historical exhibits and old world decor were splendid. Buildings felt like something out of Star Wars. Restaurants were incredible and had the best food ever. Hot spring was awesome. Bell staff lady was exceptionally helpful and courteous.

There were no transport options to go to the Hakone shrine or Heiwa no Torii in the mornings before 9:30-10am. I wanted to avoid crowds so I walked there by myself early at 7am. The road is dangerous because of no walkway for the first 10-15 minutes.

Very good property set on the banks of Lake Ashi and a short drive to the town of Motohakone. The resort has great facilities and you can view Mt Fuji from the property. We had breakfast at the Lakeside Grill and really loved it. Good spread and delicious food. The onsen at the property is a bonus. We used the outdoor onsen on both days of our stay. Could hike bikes from there as well. The staff are very attentive and helpful. Although this hotel is listed as a 4 star property, in our opinition the facilities were of a 5 star hotel.Definatly recommend this place if you plan to stay in Hakone

Nothing we didn't like at this property

This was a special treat after the rush of Tokyo. The area is beautiful and peaceful and the view of Fuji from our hotel was breathtaking, apparently we were lucky with the weather. Onsen was excellent. The Lakeside Grill is very good, we couldn't justify the expense of the French restaurant. Recommend the pirate ship on Lake Ashi and the ropeway up the mountain to the active volcano, very impressive.

You need to be aware that the area is remote, of course this is part of the attraction but you will be using a lot of the local buses or the hotel shuttle which can be testing.

We arrived at the hotel and a hotel employee was waiting for us outside, he took our luggage and things and accompanied us to the reception. Registration was quick and pleasant and then the employee accompanied us with our luggage to the room. The room was large and spacious with a balcony, equipped with a Nespresso coffee machine, pajamas and slippers. The hotel has a beautiful courtyard with a beach on Lake Ashi, on a good day you can see Mount Fuji. The hotel has a lounge where you can spend time with coffee/tea, cake and sandwiches. The hotel has two restaurants, one buffet and one French style. We tried the buffet restaurant and were quite disappointed, the food is not worth the money we paid and that was the only thing that disappointed in this hotel. Everything else was excellent.

A large elegant grand building. Wonderful indoor and outdoor soaking areas for men and women. Many great options and delicious array of foods for breakfast and dinners. Knowledgeable, friendly, warm staff who speak English and helped with things like luggage forwarding. Excellent location to wonderful day trips in Hakone like the catamaran across the lake and the rope way up to see views of Mount Fuji. Free shuttle into the nearby town with great food options. Rooms were comfortable, spacious and very well appointed. Very happy with this experience overall.
