The room was massive! Way bigger than we expected especially for Japan standards. Beautiful, modern space in a gorgeous and quiet street. Nice and private, yet super close to some great restaurants and bars, and easily walkable to Kenrokuen Gardens and Kanazawa Castle. The owner sat down with us and explained about Kanazawa to help us understand the city and some sightseeing opportunities too, so helpful! Honestly I would book this again in a second. Such a cool location and space. Oh, and a complete bargain!

If I had to pick on anything it would be the lighting in the room wasn’t great. A floor lamp would be great. That’s a tiny nitpick though, everything else was perfect.

Our room was spacious and included the best bathroom of our trip (amazing smart heated toilet with many functions, and bathtub that keeps itself at temperature and talks and plays music/soothing sounds - use google translate to help with functions). We loved the hot coffee and tea setup in the room, especially as we are early risers. The owner, TwoTom, was very kind and responsive to our inquiries about restaurants etc. and briefed us on the features of the room, the sights of Kanazawa, how to get around town etc. upon arrival and helped us forward our bags to our next hotel so we didn’t need to carry them on trains/buses etc. Our experience was that breakfasts were bountiful and generally included fresh baked breads or pastries, yogurt, sausage, bacon, a sunny side up egg- and they varied each day we were there (we spent three nights). We are American and big breakfast eaters and were very satisfied with the offerings at the lovely cafe. This was our first accommodation experience on our first time to Japan and it exceeded our expectations.

As mentioned by others, the bright emergency lighting is disturbing for sleep - perhaps a more solid and longer screen would help block it? Also, for me the futons were hard on my hips- but that is just sleeping in Japan. The Japanese “western style” beds we slept in elsewhere were surprisingly just as hard. Maybe a topper for futons/beds that could be used by guests who need more softness would be helpful, especially for older guests with hip pain?

Beautifully appointed, stylish Japanese style accommodation. It was lovely to have a washing machine and kitchen space, separate toilet and beautiful bathroom. Our host was very informative, with excellent English, and at our request, he booked us a taxi to the train station

In keeping with the decor, the two chairs were supports on the floor. We did find one other small low chair in cupboard. Our old knees suffered a little from getting up and down from the floor and from the bed, but the trade-off was the authentic Japanese experience

A truly wonderful experience staying at this Gunjo no Tsuki. It was modern, extremely clean and tastefully done. The bath tub was operated by a touch of the button and it fills by itself. There was ample room to move around for a family of 4 and it can easily accommodate another 2 more. The owner was really helpful as well. He was just a call away since he stayed nearby and was prompt in giving us suggestions and directions! My family really loved this house and would come back again if we came back to Kanazawa!

The only small qualm is the limited parking space in area. The other place that was recommended was very tight, presumably because of the building works. I got a really bad scratch and dent on my rented car. Just take note of this

Really stylish place in a great location for walking around many interesting parts of Kanazawa. The host was very helpful and provided the most lovely bath salts and products which we appreciated. It was great to be able to use the washing machine as we were at the middle stage of a 2 week trip.

Although we loved it at first it was almost too stylish and designed for us, and lacked a bit of warmth and homey-ness. I found the grey ceilings, lack of windows and low lighting particularly in the kitchen a little heavy and cave-like. It's a very personal thing and maybe won't effect others but I found it hard to relax and sleep well in the space even though it was spacious and the mattresses comfortable. I'd love the ceilings lightened, some extra strip lighting and a few more personal and homey touches.

Wow just Wow The room was amazing, Clean , new and very big - The shower was amazing and all the rest as well. The room is very stylish and the combination of the traditional Japanese design with modem hipster touch! the owner is the nicest he explains you everything not only about the room but also about everything around and transportation and answers all the question you have. we wrote to him privately after the deadline that we might need to change the dates and he was willing to help us and was very thoughtful we enjoyed it so much, the location is 4 min from the main street Thank you! Fantastically located modern-traditional property with futons etc. Very clean with all necessary conveniences & very modern in design. Nice bathroom. Some of the instructions could have had a tad more translation in the guide book i.e. the air-con & the washing machine, but we worked them out - so all good! The location was literally a minute away up to the main road and shops and buses and a very easy walk to the castle and gardens. And also minutes to a traditional street in other direction with some lovely places to eat, and some other sites. Very cozy with the heating on - a very pleasant stay in all.

Only one thing and not huge, but two bed pillows would be nice : )

Beautiful mix of modern and traditional design. Very clean, useful kitchenette and very nice bath with shower and tub. The toilet is the usual bidet toilet. Quiet location but easy to get to a bus stop or walk 20min to the major attractions.

The lighting is very dramatic but not that functional. The bathroom vanity lighting is from overhead only, so your face is mostly in shadow. There is a bright green sign at the top of the stairs which cannot turned off. The bedroom was right next to it and still fairly bright even with the shoji screen closed.

Lovely modern stylish place to stay comfortably in Kanazawa down a small, unassuming street. Everything is thought about! So many things we appreciated: The smart bath which fills up by the touch of a button and talks The bath salts to go with said bath The yukata to relax after said bath or sleep in Washing machine, detergent and dry rack The freshener spray The battery powered light to put by the bed so you don't have to walk to the bed in darkness The electric blankets and many ways of heating the rooms The 'bath towels' in packets to use in the bath/shower, these were really great to clean ourselves with The shoe horn and stand The drip coffee packets

The place was a very comfortable, spacious and a beautiful modern ryokan. The owner welcomed us upon our arrival and showed us how to make ourselves comfortable there. He refunded us the prepaid breakfast fees immediately as my wife is allergic to wheat and could not enjoy the breakfast supplied by his nice coffee shop. He asked us about the purpose of our stay: such as whether we were just transiting. As he understood that we wanted to visit Kanazawa for 3 days, he provided us with a map explaining where the main attractions were and how to reach them with the public transportation. He also helped us to send our luggage with the Takkyubin express courier service to our next hotel.

The air conditioning stopped during the middle of the night and made some noises during the second night. That was really a small isolated incident that didn't prevent us from enjoying our stay at this wonderful place.
