Mitsui Garden Hotel Kanazawa exceeded every expectation. Its location is spot-on—just a five-minute cab ride (or easy walk) from the train and bus stations, yet tucked far enough from the main roads to stay whisper-quiet at night. Breakfast was a daily highlight with fresh local dishes, and the staff were unfailingly warm and helpful. Our room felt generously spacious—something we really appreciated after the tighter quarters we had in Kyoto and Tokyo—so unwinding never felt cramped. Of the five hotels we tried across Japan, this one delivered the best overall value, and it will be my automatic choice when I return to Kanazawa.

Minor quibbles only: a bedside selection of herbal teas would have been nice instead of the single green-tea packet, and the duvet was a little too cosy for midsummer—lighter sheets or a blanket option would help. I also wished for even a pocket-sized fitness corner; a treadmill, exercise bike, or a set of dumbbells would make quick workouts possible without leaving the hotel. Small tweaks, but they’d elevate an already excellent stay.

We stayed here for 4 days in Kanazawa during our honeymoon, and this hotel is beautiful and excellent value for money. The building is very calming with lovely Japanese aesthetics. The room was clean with complete amenities and surprisingly spacious, especially given that most hotel rooms in Japan are small. The view from their restaurant, overlooking the garden, was stunning. We enjoyed a drink during happy hour, and the service was superb for the value. The staff were all professional and kind. The Onsen was a fantastic addition, and they even gave us a thoughtful gift to celebrate our honeymoon. Overall, we loved our stay here! Tip for guests: The hotel is about a 15-minute walk from the main train station. It’s not a big issue, but we suggest taking a taxi or bus if you have luggage.

I recently stayed at this hotel with my sister for 3 days and overall had a positive experience. During our stay, my sister had a minor accident that resulted in a wound. The hotel staff were incredibly helpful—they responded immediately, providing bandages and kindly offering to take her to the hospital if needed. Their prompt and compassionate assistance made a big difference, and we truly appreciated their care. The hotel’s location is also very convenient. Within a 2–3 minute walk, there's a nearby bus stop served by the JR West bus, a sightseeing loop bus, and local buses, making it easy to explore the area.

While the room was spacious and kept clean and tidy, the layout and furnishings made it a bit challenging to manage our belongings. We had trouble finding convenient places to store and access our luggage, and the lack of desk space made it difficult to keep daily-use items within easy reach. Despite that, the service was excellent, and the overall environment was pleasant. With a few tweaks to the room layout, this hotel could be even better.

Excellent location: near to most of the tourist attraction: Kanazawa Castle, Kenrokuen Garden (15 m), Omicho Market (5m), department stores, etc. Breakfast is excellent and the rooms are relatively big. Public bath has a very nice view overlooking the city.

Better instructions prior to check-in for guests who are driving. Whilst it's stated that there is no onsite parking, there is no mention at all about how to drop off your luggage. The hotel main entrance is located on a very busy main road with no drop-off zone. I had to drive around the block 3 times before I did a very uncomfortable stop in the bus lane to drop off the luggage at the pavement in front of the hotel. Later, I was told by the hotel staff that there is a loading bay at the back of the hotel (which is hard to locate as there is no sign) where you can park for 5-10 minutes to get your luggage to the lobby! I am sure I was not the only one as I saw another couple of very irate hotel guests who experienced the same problem. Spoils the check-in experience.

The location is good, about 15 minutes walk to Kanazawa Station and the same distance to the main attractions: the castle and Kenrokuen Garden. There are many shops and restaurants nearby, the fish market is also 2-3 minutes walk away. The rooms are large and clean, a wonderful public bath. The staff is very friendly and always ready to help. Excellent breakfast in the restaurant, many Japanese dishes. The hotel itself has many beautiful examples of Japanese art and the atmosphere itself is more reminiscent of the setting in an expensive Japanese restaurant.

Great location with a wonderful ambiance. The hotel has a welcoming delightful fragrance, spacious rooms with excellent amenities and facilities. Breakfast was a real treat, featuring high-quality local specialties. The breakfast staffs were also especially helpful and attentive.

Thin walls allow hallway noise to be disruptive, and the room door rattles when nearby doors open or close. The electric kettle in the room was not properly cleaned, with leftover residue inside. The public bath was nice but often crowded with noisy tourists. Unfortunately, the washing machine was always in use, making it difficult to access.

What’s not to like? The rooms were spacious and spotless, and our twin beds were surprisingly large. The staff went out of their way to make our stay comfortable, and the breakfast was divine. Kanazawa is beautiful on its own, but staying at the Mitsui made the experience even better. The location is excellent, with Kenrokuen Garden nearby and the Higashi Chaya District within walking distance. Truly one of the highlights of our Japan trip.

Past 5pm most places in the area are closed. Keep that in mind when going out for dinner.

Beautiful contemporary hotel centrally located - easy to walk everywhere. Fabulous baths in the top floor to soak the tired muscles after a long day. Excellent breakfast buffet can be included in the room rate. Staff friendly with some English. If you are arriving be train it is about 1000 Yen taxi ride to the hotel, otherwise a 30 minute walk dragging suitcases. Take the taxi.

Beautiful facility. No complaints. Rooms are small but brightly designed and certainly adequate for two. Even brought a second luggage rack to the room.

Excellent location, easy walk to Omicho Market and city CBD. Staff were fabulous, very helpful, respectful and professional. Rooms were spacious and comfortable with modern bathroom and beautiful views. Hotel was very affordable. Complimentary pyjamas and bottled water provided in rooms. Superb breakfast with local produce the highlight, very fresh, generous and delicious options. Hotel had a beautiful atmosphere and was very peaceful. By far the best stay of my trip. Highly recommend to anyone visiting Kanazawa.
