The location was absolutely fantastic, just a nice walk away from Kyoto Station. Far enough that it wasn't crowded but still close to neat things. While no staff was on hand, they were very punctual in replying to messages. The room was very small but well laid out, making it easy to navigate. The shower was one of the best I've ever had in my life. Do be prepared to check your email for your codes. That's key. Figuratively and literally!

The beds were very firm. Which I liked, though my spouse did not. It's definitely something for other travelers to be aware of. Also, the air conditioner was very loud, but that was also not necessarily bad as it functioned as something of a white noise machine.

Overall it is a great place and location so good value

Completely relying on QR entrance with no front staff is impossible if you lose your phone or, as I did, forget and leave it behind in the room. The intercom response (which can only be accesses inside through a locked door accessible only with QR) was wholly inadequate. The person could neither speak nor understand English and repeatedly told me to just wait. She hung up when I said I wanted to speak to a manager. So I would hesitate to recommend based on this experience.

Easy checking in process… we received the code on the morning of arrival and it allowed access to the lobby and room. It is minimally staffed but that suited us. The twin room was a good size for the two of us, it was clean and well stocked with coffee and tea making facilities. The en suite was also very clean. The towels were changed every day and bins emptied. It was simple but perfect for what we needed…a comfortable bed and a shower after a long day of walking! Not a criticism but advice….eat before you return to the hotel as not much around the hotel although there is a convenience store nearby.

We really like this hotel. It’s not too big and not crowded. The room size is reasonable, typical of Japanese style. The facilities are excellent — there’s even a power strip and a Bluetooth speaker. The bathroom is clean and well-equipped. We arrived before the check-in time, but the room was ready early, so we could check in right away. Many thanks to the housekeeping staff!

It would be even better if the hotel offered a luggage storage service.

We enjoyed our stay at HALE! It was central, close to transport, and clean. All required facilities were available to us. Would recommend this hotel to others.

While the QR code access system is great, we did get locked out of the apartment building and then our room. The staff were prompt at assisting us to rectify the issues. However, is not ideal especially at night in an unfamiliar environment, an alternative key would be a good thing to implement.

Fairly good location, really good room, and we got given night gowns, which were cute. Got given all the things we may need for the stay such as water bottle and coffee machine. If there was a staff present , even one of them and I think I would have given it a 10

There were no present staff and I wanted alcoholic drink but it felt like a bit of a chore as it was self serve and had a lot of instructions.

There is no provided breakfast , but the good automatic coffee machine and coffee is provided. The location is less than 10 min walk from Kyoto station, and very close to Toji temple. The room is very clean and comfort.

There is no convenient store nearby. You need to do online check in, since there is no one will help at the lobby. It's self check in hotel. Make sure that you have smartphone and internet.

Clean and everything you needed. Close to central Kyoto and the train station.

Trying to checkin. Make sure that you complete the email process before you get to the hotel, because there is nobody there to help you. Also…take your phone charger with you, because if you come back to the hotel with a dead phone. You will have to wait for another person staying at the hotel to come let you into the “lobby”, which does have phone chargers, but they are of little use, if you can’t get into the lobby to use them.

Room was good for a few nights and location was perfectly situated close to the train station and conveniences. Was concerned about some reviews suggesting it was difficult to get into rooms and building trying to obtain their QR Key as the building is not staffed but we didnt have any issues ourselves.

Pillows weren't very good but thats about it. (To be honest everywhere we've been in Japan pillows are terrible)
