Very warm welcome by English speaking staff at the front desk upon arrival. Less than three minutes walk from Gojo subway station and many food choices nearby. Convenience store was right across the street so that was helpful. We loved the complementary pyjamas to wear during our stay. Laundry facilities in the basement and showing the amount of time left on the cycle on the TV was very helpful in order for us to plan on doing laundry during our trip.

Room wasn’t too clean, but when I reported this to front desk, it was apologized for immediately.

Location was great! Walking distance to central/shopping area and very close to bus/subway stations that take you to the major attractions. There are a few convenient stores and a big pharmacy store around as well. Staffs were extremely kind and helpful. There is a shrine just about one min walk from the hotel, you can get lucky charms specifically for your pets from there. The room is clean and fairly big for Japanese standards. Bed is super comfortable. Breakfast is fantastic. A lot options in both western and Japanese styles.

The laundry room. There are only 4 wash machines l, so it was a battle for getting the laundries done. Also the dryers don’t work well.

A really very nice hotel with a very big and modern facilities such as the lobby and the room . Staff is really very attentive and gentle , breakfast is excellent and the location is very good for Kyoto. I enjoyed my stay at this hotel in all of the aspects I suggest the Hotel to every person that wants to visit the city. the best of the hotel are the rooms, nice, clean, with good beds and very spacious.

Tv options are really very standard and is a general problem in all of Japan hotels. The interface is not good and the international channels are very few. From the point of view of the hotel they give this service as the rest of the hotels in Japan so its not specific a critic to this hotel itself

The Hilton Garden Inn Kyoto Shijo Karasuma is conveniently located close to Kyoto Station, making it an ideal base for exploring the city. The staff are exceptionally kind and attentive, contributing to a welcoming atmosphere. The breakfast selection is impressive, with a wide variety of choices that cater to both Western and Japanese tastes, ensuring a satisfying start to the day. The rooms are spacious and designed in a more European style, offering comfort and practicality with amenities like an iron, fridge, and a coffee and tea setup. In an eco-friendly move, the hotel provides a filtered water pitcher instead of single-use bottles, which aligns with sustainable practices.

While we appreciated the hotel’s eco-conscious approach with reusable slippers labelled as sterilized, the note itself appeared unclean, which was a bit off-putting. Additionally, the hotel only has three laundry machines, which, given the high occupancy, led to frequent waits and crowding in the laundry area.

Great hotel. Room was spacious, clean and modern. The breakfast was really tasty with plenty of options. The gym was spacious & one of the best gyms I’ve seen in a hotel. It was a super short walk from a metro station & it was in a great location, we barely had to use public transport unless going further away (such as the Fushimi Inari Shrines etc). Otherwise we were able to walk everywhere and see a lot! Would stay here again! Bed was comfortable also.

Very welcoming and helpful staff. Bony Hsu the front desk supervisor was especially kind to us. Well designed hotel with a workout facility and laundromat in the basement. Never a long wait for an elevator. Great buffet breakfast with both western and Japanese food. Convenient location with Gojo subway station a short walk away and lots of restaurants nearby. Less than a 10 minute walk to Shijodori and Nishiki Market.

The room was beautifully designed. So much so that we didn’t miss having a view. The mattress was very comfortable. The breakfast buffet was excellent. The staff were very friendly and helpful, especially Florent, who went out of his way to make sure we were enjoying our trip.

Window looks out onto a wall. What can you do? It’s Japan and it’s crowded. The shoji screen was a good idea. The location was…central to everything, but not particularly close to anything, if you know what I mean.

Nice breakfast buffet. Cocktail lounge was available in the afternoons and evenings. Staff was friendly and helpful.

A window in my room would have been nice.

I really enjoyed my stay here. The design of the hotel and rooms were gorgeous. I enjoyed the Japanese style of my room. It was bright and clean. The bathroom was beautiful and the shower was great. I stayed in 8 hotels during my trip and this was my second favourite. I also really enjoyed the little shop they had onsite. And the food for lunch and dinner was nice. The staff were really friendly and helpful and I was surprised to be reminded that the hotel was only 3*. I hope they are able to continue keeping the upkeep and maintenance of the hotel to a high standard.

The water filter idea for the rooms just didn’t work. I think it would be better to provide reusable bottles and have water stations that people can refill their bottles from. The idea of drinking water from the bathroom tap, no matter if it’s been filtered or not is not appealing or enjoyable. An offer of room service or option to take away restaurant food to the room would have improved things, rather than being not offering a limited menu to takeaway.

Room was lovely, good size and well laid out . Nice shower products too.

Bed was a bit small for a queen (seemed more like a double). When the room was serviced they gave us clean towels but didn’t provide clean cups or more teabags. When I asked at reception for a couple of tea bags the person made a strange comment about them not being free which seems pretty stingy for a 4star hotel!
