Location, space, clean, staff. Loved the idea of borrowing things from the desk and loved the kitchen in our apartment

That the people at the front desk were rotating too often and I would have liked more activities at the front desk with an opportunity to do more crafts and meet others who stayed in the hotel. Also, we had the impression that the people working there sometimes didn't have many years of experience in the city of Kyoto that could share unique experiences with us. A list with tried tours about old family businesses in the area and possibly participating in some would be amazing.

Huge 2 bedroom apartment with en-suite washer/dryer combo, brightly lit living room, and kitchenette with sizable fridge. Separately controlled A/C in each room, and 2 full bathrooms. Attentive staff spoke English fluently and were quite helpful in recommending restaurants and generally responding to inquiries. Iced and hot coffee, green tea, and chocolate drinks available at all times in lobby along with toys/gams plus daily sake/local craft been happy hour and periodic other cultural activities provided by the hotel. Very well-located with easy access to public transit, Ubers/taxis, and walking to many different parts of Kyoto. Many many many diverse restaurants, bars, and shops in easy 5 - 20 minute flat walking distance. Easy walk to Nishiki fish market along with Shinkyoguku shopping district and its animal cafes.

We had a small balcony in our room, but guests were not able to access it. It would have been nice to be able to use it.

Location is superb. In the centre of Kyoto, and subway is 5mns away. Lots of restaurants and shops (incl 7/11 and Lawsons 2mns away). The apartment was very large, with 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms + kitchen /living room. Very comfortable for a family of 3 or 4. Spotlessly clean. Happy hour with sake is a nice touch. If you are after a truly Japanese experience then there are better places, but if you are looking for somewhere spacious, comfortable, pristine and convenient then it is the best choice.

The water cooler is not accessible 10pm - 7am and there is no bottled water in the room. Also could do with a tea towel in the room.

New and clean hotel with great sized bedrooms, living area, and kitchen. Two bedrooms with two bathrooms and a washer/dryer. Free sake and beer in the lobby for happy hour. 24/7 free coffee/tea. Great games for kids and fantastic staff. Same day luggage delivery at a reasonable price is a no brainer. No one needs to juggle kids and luggage through JR stations!

Nice quiet location but a little far from the main area. Really only buses to rely on which are a flat fee no matter how long or short a trip and can run late. Train stations don’t connect as well as Tokyo/Osaka.

We walked in and felt like we were in heaven, such a great place to arrive after a long day of travelling. Daily Happy Hour was always well received by the grown ups! Kids loved playing with toys in the lobby. Free umbrella rentals. Free Tea/Coffee all day. Rooms are a great size, very comfortable, space for everyone including somewhere for the parents to hang out once the kids had gone to sleep. Washing Machine in our room was fantastic!

This is a minor thing but I wish the beds were not on wheels or if they locked into place. It was a bit annoying every time we sat on a bed, it would slide. There were a couple of times someone fell between the two single beds that were making up a king bed too.

We recently stayed at MIMARU SUITES Kyoto Shijo in a spacious 3-bedroom apartment, and it was absolutely perfect for our family of six, which included grandparents, parents, and two children. The suite was beautifully designed, exceptionally clean, and offered the ideal combination of comfort and modern amenities—everything we needed for a relaxing and memorable stay in Kyoto. What truly made our experience stand out was the warm hospitality and thoughtful extras provided by the hotel. One highlight was the complimentary calligraphy class offered onsite. It was a unique and meaningful cultural experience that all of us, from our youngest to our oldest family member, truly enjoyed. It’s rare to find a hotel that caters so thoughtfully to multigenerational families, and MIMARU SUITES exceeded our expectations. The location was also very convenient, with easy access to local attractions, public transportation, and great restaurants. We would gladly return and highly recommend this hotel to anyone traveling with family to Kyoto.

Nothing it was perfect

We loved everything about our stay at Mimaru Suites Kyoto Shijo. From the minute we arrived, we were welcomed with a smile and offer of complimentary hot and cold drinks. Our kids went straight for the collection of toys housed in the lobby. Our luggage was waiting for us in our room as we had used the luggage-forwarding service the day before from Tokyo (highly recommend this! Don’t bother taking your luggage on the Shinkansen. Just take a carry-on with enough toiletries and clothes for all travellers for 24 hours. We dropped our luggage off before midday the day before and it took 24 hours to get to Kyoto). Our two bedroom apartment was ready before 3pm check-in so we were offered early check-in without extra cost. The apartment was on the 8th floor and was really lovely. The kids had a bedroom and a bathroom down the hall and the adults bedroom had an ensuite. The dining room and kitchen were spacious though we didn’t use them much as we mostly ate out. The washing machine was great and they supplied a hanging rack, which we used instead of using the dryer. We enjoyed sampling the beers and sake at happy hour in the lobby and they even hosted a calligraphy lesson which was a lot of fun. The day before check-out, the staff took care of forwarding our luggage on to our next hotel. Lastly, we loved the location. There were some fantastic restaurants close by, and the 15 minute walk to Nishiki market and surrounding areas was great. We were also very close to the train entrances.

We stayed at Mimaru Suites Kyoto Shijo with our two teenage children and had a fantastic experience. The location was ideal, just a short walk from the subway and close to many restaurants and shops, making it easy to explore Kyoto. Our suite was spacious and spotlessly clean, and we were impressed by the high standard of cleanliness throughout the hotel. The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful, always ready with local tips or a warm greeting. One of the best features was the in-room washing machine, which made doing laundry during our trip so convenient – a huge plus for a family traveling with kids. We highly recommend Mimaru Suites Kyoto Shijo to other families looking for comfort and convenience.

Great hotel a short walk to tourist sites but tucked away in a quiet area. Lots of great restaurants nearby. Staff was very helpful with excellent English. The hotel and rooms are very clean and modern. We had a 2 bedroom apartment that was extremely spacious and the washer/dryer very efficient. We could get to Nara, Bamboo forest, and Osaka within 45 minutes on the train. All other Kyoto attractions are walking distance or a short bus ride. Would definitely stay here again especially with family

Free craft beer! Do I need to say more. The location was great near the high street. I liked not being in Gion (way to touristy). Awesome shopping and nice restaurants around. Staff were fantastic. Mimaru is definitely a good choice for first-timers to Japan as the staff do a lot for you in terms of booking taxis, making reservations at restaurants, etc. Would definitely recommend it. We really enjoyed our 7 night stay

The aircon, it was a spit system. It was so annoying, too hot, and too cold going off every 15 minutes. The light from the air-conditioning was so bright we had to stick a bandaid on it. Sorry, I think we left it on there :/
