Efficient check-in process, helpful staff, and apparently you can meet the love of your life here.
That my heart would get stolen so easily by a cute French Canadian girl.

The community room cum kitchen was very well equipped, i especially like that guest can leave used utensils/crockeries in the sink and the hotel staff will wash up. Cleanliness was top notch.
Room: minor hiccup over my booking. I asked for female-only dorm, but i was given a mixed dorm. Although the venue tried to salvage by offering female-only dorm for day 2 & 3, i still have to stay in the mixed dorm for day 1 & 4, which also means i have to check in/out three times. The other option offered to me was to upgrade to a private room which i have to pay additional JPY120,000, which in my opinion was an absurd suggestion. Other wise, the stay was very pleasant. One thing though, the shower/toilet area was shared, there is no female-only shower/toilet area. i saw male guests coming out from the shower in their boxer only, perhaps the venue can emphasize more on this (decently dressed at public area) at registration, particularly to male guest.

There is a Mini Mart across the street and a 6 min walk to the nearest train station and McDonalds. You can easily walk the neighborhood and find multiple restaurants. From the description, I thought the property was closer to the Nishiki Market then it actually is. so that was a bid disappointing but lovely hotel and staff.
The hotel does not allow shoes; you have to remove your shoes before you enter the facility. Although this is the culture in Japan, we were not expecting this. I've stayed at hotels were it is an option for your personal room and onsen, but not the entire facility.

It is a very beautiful hostel, you are greeted with slippers to change into and cubbies to put your shoes in. It is wheelchair accessible which I noticed. The rooms are more private than other hostels I've been too. There were 6 beds in the women's-only room but when I stayed only 2 girls including myself stayed in a room for my entire stay which was nice. It's very clean, it gives a luxurious vibe. The bathroom and showers were wonderful. The shampoo and conditioner made my hair so soft I loved it. The sinks had chairs underneath the table so you can do your makeup or skincare which was nice. They have fresh towels given to you every day which I love. And there is a private bathroom outside the elevator across from the room I stayed at which was nice and convenient if I didn't want to walk 3 doors down to the communal bathrooms. Something to keep in mind Is that the communal bathrooms are shared by male and female guests regardless if you stayed in a women's only room. Unless the room itself has a bathroom included but I got the regular 6 beds women's only room and I used The communal bathrooms and showers with other people BUT there are locks on the shower and bathroom so it wasn't a huge concern of mine at all. The second floor is where the kitchen is and it was also beautiful and clean. They have water tea and coffee available at all times. As well as outlets to charge your devices if you want to hang out there. There is a toaster, kettle, microwave, fridge, stove all available. It was a very peaceful experience as I felt everyone enjoyed their peace and kept the volume low throughout the halls and stuff. Very cute and serene experience. The beds were great, no complaints there, I was warm and had plugs for my devices and a little light as well as a hanger to hang a sweater or shirt there for the next day. There is also one locker designated for each guest and it can fit a carry on luggage as well as maybe a backpack on top of it.
Breakfast was cute. It was delicious breads and jelly but if you are a more protein heavy breakfast eater I would recommend skipping.

So happy with this hostel! It was clean, comfy and great price! I liked the location, 20min away from the train station on foot. I stayed for 2 night in a female dorm and everything was above my expectations. Bathrooms were super clean, they also changed my towel! Which is something you don't usually find in hostels. I liked that it was quite and people were very respectful of each other, which helped me having great sleep. I absolutely recommend it to those of you who are looking for calm and relaxing vibe, maybe less social, but I value more my sleep..so, you choose.
The only little thing I would share is that they offer breakfast, which is bread and jam. But for me it was not an issue..with all the great food in Japan, I preferred to have breakfast elsewhere!

We booked a private room, which was super spacious for Japan standards and very comfortable. We had our own sink in the room to be able to wash up and right outside the room were very clean and nice public showers and bathrooms. The Japanese toilets were great! The hostel has a lovely sitting area where you can cook, relax, make tea or coffee and store items in the fridge. The breakfast was assorted bread and jams that you could toast. They also cleaned our hostel room every few days and gave fresh towels.
I am pregnant and was having some back pain and they wouldn’t allow me to have a second pillow to ease the pain. Other than that, we had a very lovely stay!

The hostel is very nice and clean overall. Especially the bathrooms, I have never seen bathrooms this clean in hostels! The shared space is also well maintained, and equipped with everything you might need. There is also a water dispenser and glasses. The dormitory I stayed in had 6 beds overall and the same number of lockers. The position was fantastic! Close to a metro and bus station, and at a walking distance from Ponto-cho (20 min). Nearby there are a few nice restaurants and convenience stores. The staff was nice. Also, you will need to remove your shoes at the entrance but they provide slippers that get cleaned every day!
If I have to point out something (although it wasn't a big problem) there is no place where to put your stuff (like cellphone and handbag) near your bed. Also, the lockers aren't huge, so if you have a backpack or a normal size suitcase it's fine, but if you have a big luggage it won't fit in the locker - although there is space in the room.

Luggage storage is available before check in! Helpful staff. Clean, spacious (private) room - we could unpack our 2 large suitcases with plenty of space left. Elevator access. Walking distance to Kyoto Station (or cheap ~1000 yen taxi) and walking distance to the two big shopping streets. Free breakfast was simple, but enough if you want to grab and go for something light to snack on (don't treat it as a full meal).
No conditioner in the bathrooms. Spotty wifi in the hotel room, but generally accessible albeit a bit slow sometimes.

We had a quadruple room with shared toilet & bath facilities on level 2 where the kitchen & dining was. Hostel was very clean and bright in common areas. Linens were clean & fresh. The toilets & shared shower rooms were mostly well-maintained and adequate for the number of guests (seemed like a full house during our time). The entire place had a 'new' vibe and was well-designed for different groups. Our room was a generous size compared to the average city hostel in Tokyo and Kyoto. Staff worked like clock-work to keep dishes & kitchen clean, as well as replenish daily amenities, which was a huge plus compared to other hostels!
The international guests who spoke loudly in common areas in the early mornings & late night hours. The male guests who used the female-only shower. And other little inconsiderate acts by guests. Basically the staff & facilities were great. Some of the guests were a nuisance to others. I also felt that there wasn't a need to change towels & give new amenities daily - it might be good for the hostel to look into sustainability & cost-value by simply making some small changes on this point.

the location of the hostel is really good: about a quick 10 min walk from Gojo Station; a 30 min walk to Kyoto Station and subsequently Kyoto Tower (or 1 subway stop over from Gojo), a shopping street (i think Shijo Dori?) is 15 mins walk, 20 min walk to Nishiki Market, a 50 min walk to Hokanji-temple, "night life street" 25-30 min walk to area with a stream and a bunch of bars, clubs, karaoke. and lots of restaurants, cafes, and of course, convenience stores near the hostel's radius. a mini mart is like 40 second walk. and there's a family mart further down -- maybe 3 mins walk. a bonus story about great staff : i dropped my passport while walking around said area but the restaurant i went to was only 10 mins walk away so i noticed quickly and was able to retrace my steps fairly easy -- except my passport was not on the ground. because i noticed within an hour it wasn't there, i was fairly confident someone had picked it up so i thought i would get it the next day when i went to a koban (small police station). however the first koban i went to, the officer didn't even write my name down and essentially just told me to go somewhere else (yikes) and something told me to try another one, and so i did and this one wrote my info down and i didn't have a phone (i lost it the day before while skiing) and so they had to contact the hostel if they found it. 2 days later, the hostel employee finds me and tells me the station has my passport. i don't know if the other staff told the guy i didn't have my phone either, but he offered to walk there together which surprised me. it was a fairly rainy day too. he gave me an umbrella and we walked to the district police station (like 10 min walk) making small talk and recommendations, and basically became my personal translator at the station and so i got my passport back smoothly. so yea, basically the staff is super nice lmao i wish i asked for the guy's name!!
just a reminder to those that it's a hostel, so theres a bunch of bunk beds in one room. so be prepared to hear every sound ever made by a human!! it was my first hostel stay and im not that much of a light sleeper so it was fine for me. i could also just put on headphones to listen to musics or watch shows if i wanted more privacy. also the breakfast really is just sliced bread, jam and butter.
