This is an incredible stay. Well worth the cost, easily. It's right in the heart of the historic area and still close to restaurants, the shopping area, many cafes, and 7/11. You can walk around close to home at night and see the Geisha going about their workspaces. The staff are so incredibly helpful and friendly, very warm and welcoming. The amenities are brilliant, free tampons, tissues, earbuds, brushes, soap, conditioner, shampoo, coffee, tea, etc. A fresh towel every day. It's very clean, the beds, bathrooms and kitchen, toilets - everything is spotless. It's very secure, you need a card to get it, and there are stairs or a lift at the end of the floor. Excellent internet. Very close to buses and trains - although the system in Kyoto isn't as complex as Osaka or Tokyo. It has a small kitchenette - but all things you could need to cook. There are clothes washing facilities there, but there are also larger more industrial washes directly across the road (pictures in my photos). It's very quiet and peaceful. The aircon is on strong at night (19/20 degrees), which is nice for the pods and for sleeping (it was hot summer in Japan at the time). Big fluffy quilts and clean sheets - if you stay longer than a week, they change them weekly (I was there 3 weeks). The beds/pods are larger than any I have been in, and I have stayed in Japan for 9 weeks so have seen a few. They also have bike hire - ebike, or normal bike - an excellent way to see the sites, since it's a little more spread out and has less public transport. Really wonderful place and stay. They do post a lot of guides and info on the Instagram, which is helpful to check out and contact them on if you want.

The only fault I can think of were things completely out of the venue's control, like loud international tourists (acknowledging I am also a tourist). But in Japan, even in hostels, it is common to be quiet and respectful of others' space and solitude, tourists rarely do this, and think it's more like the social European hostels - where you're there to meet and socialise. The piles of their smelly shoes at the front door.

Summary Excellent location, comfortable beds, clean and well-organized, and great value for money. I paid 200 yen per night as a municipal tax. Location Most of the attractions and temples are nearby, and you can casually walk to many of them. There are plenty of restaurants, coffee shops, and mini-supermarkets right around the corner. Metro , very close by Staff Friendly and polite. They understand basic English well. I didn’t even need to use Google Translate here. 🙂 Check-In and Check-Out Very simple and efficient process. I was given a key to access the bedspace area, and after 10 PM, you need to use a general PIN code to open the main digital door. This adds an extra layer of safety, which I appreciated. Room I stayed in a mixed bedspace room. The left wing was for females, and the right wing for males. The bedspace was spacious enough to store valuables and essentials. Inside each bedspace, there’s a special locker with a key, very useful. I even kept my laptop there when using the toilet. Our luggage can be placed next to your bedspace. After 10 PM, the lights are dimmed automatically, but you have your own reading light in your bedspace. The A/C temperature was okay—not too cold or too hot. Personally, I prefer it a bit colder, but it was still comfortable. Free Amenities Towels, water, and a comb are provided for free. I stayed for two nights and was given two towels. Lobby Area The lobby area is spacious and has a large table if you want to work or use your laptop. There are also a couple of Japanese-style tables with mats, Washrooms The washrooms were extremely clean, and I never had to wait to use them. The shower section is separated from the toilet area, which is a good design choice. Extra Cash Payment You’ll need to pay 200 yen per night in cash, according to Kyoto municipal tax laws. But everything was clearly communicated me before I arrived in Japan so I was happy to pay for that. Very clear communication was there.

This Hostel really made my trip in Kyoto exceptional. A large community room where you could always sit and chat with others which really was nice. Everything was clean, comfortable mattress, nice showers and bathrooms. The best thing was the staff, they made everything so special. They were always so kind and helpful. The location is also right on the middle of everything.. 5-10 min walk to the mountain shopping streets and 5-10 in the other direction with all the shops and restaurants on the streams. On a quiet street with a convenience store a few feet away. In the end I found that the bus stop was closer when you are coming and going from Kyoto station. It’s only 1 stop, and a 3 min walk. Bus 206 to Chion In Mae. I loved everything about this hostel

Beautiful hostel in the middle of Gion, Lawson convenience store is reachable within less than 1 minute distance. Spacious bed, with lots of room to store clothes and toiletries, including a rack for your towel. Common room in ryokan style which is really inviting to meet other travellers! I stayed on the female-only floor, which was very clean and had enough showers and toilets available. Every day you get a clean towel and they offer you extra necessities (e.g., adapters or converters, they only have the Japanese socket plugin) at the front desk.

Staff is not always visible, so you have to ring the bell if you have a question (but they are very friendly!). No lockers available, but if you only have one bag there is sufficient space to leave it in front of your bed. Only one washing machine and dryer. Make sure you don’t forget to bring your card at all times, otherwise you are stuck!

This is my first time in Japan, and I really like it. The location of this hostel is excellent, situated in Gion Shijo, Kyoto. You can easily walk to Gion Kamogawa, Kiyomizu Temple, Hana-no-koji, Kawagen-cho, Shijo Shopping Mall, Ponto-cho, Yasaka Shrine, and Ninenzaka. It’s very convenient for eating, shopping, and traveling. When I checked in, the front desk staff were very enthusiastic and spoke good English. They explained everything clearly. By the way, there is an accommodation tax here. I stayed for three days and paid a total of 600 yen in tax. The first floor is a public area where you can eat and make friends. After checking in, you need to swipe your card to enter the accommodation area, which is very safe. The second floor has the girls' room and boys' shower space, while the third floor has the boys' area and girls' shower space. The fourth floor is a paid laundry room. I stayed on the third floor, and the bedding was very comfortable. I slept well every night. If you stay continuously, you can receive a new towel every day, which is great. In short, my stay was very pleasant. I liked it a lot and will definitely come again next time.

Cool layout, plenty of bathrooms/showers etc, never had to wait for anything. Good kitchen facilities and social area. Nearby Konbini + train stations. Good storage/lock box. Friendly staff and felt safe always. Always clean and lovely having fresh towels each day. Shampoo, conditioner and bodywash provided was excellent.

Noisy people opposite us every night and early morning, quiet time not implemented well but not really hostels fault! No toilet for girls on the mixed room floor, only mens which meant my girlfriend had to go up or down a floor to use it. Beds got extremely hot at night, definitely need a fan in each bed section, or cooler air conditioning. We had to sleep with our curtains open a bit to let air in. Needed locks on our bags, as only an open luggage store in the reception, and one small lock box in each bed space.

I think this place deserve a higher rating. The room is big, clean, bed super confy, best bed ever, bed area really big and spacious. The showers were amazing, I loved it, and in the bathroom they provide you with everything, shampoo, conditioner, cotton buds, cotton paper for make up remover, one time use hairbrush, hairdryer and hair straighteners, this was the top. I celebrated my birthday in Kyoto and it was nice to make nicer my hair after backpacking for months and looking like a homeless. But most importantly they provide you a towel and they change it every day for free, this is priceless and amazing. The common area is nice and there is a coffee machine wich you can get one coffee for 100 yen, this makes you save a lot of money. In the common area there are a lot of books for reccomendations, guides about restaurants, touristy places etc, I found it quiet smart. I really enjoyed my staying there. I will for sure come back again. Thank you ♥️

This is mostly for your knowledge, there is only one washing machine and one dryer but outside the hostel infront of the building there is a laundry available with more machines.

I love the location of this guesthouse as it is within walking distance of a couple of tourist spots. Don’t have to take the bus all the time as it is pretty full during peak hours. It is both accessible to bus and train so use of the subway/bus pass is worth it. I stayed in all female room that has 24 beds. It was pretty full when I was there but lucked out of respectful guests that aren’t noisy. I didn’t have to wait at all to take a shower or to use the toilet. Common areas are cleaned everyday. Towels were changed everyday as well. A little bit tight in space. It’ll be a challenge to open a big suitcase. Toiletries, cotton swabs, lotion and facial milk are provided. There’s tables on the first floor to eat. Cups, plates are available for use. You’re given a key card to access room and shower room. You have to remember all the time to bring your key card everytime you go out of the room even when just going to shower or toilet or you’ll be in the mercy of someone opening the door for you. I will stay here again for sure when visiting Kyoto again.

Very good location, walking distance to Gion and the main station. Rooms are big ans very clean, good facilities, every thing is new and tidy. The small kitchen in the lobby wich not very comfortable Toiletand showers was spacious.. The setting of the place doesn't really make it a hostel, so it's not necessary the place to meet travel buddies. I didn't like they asked me to pay 200yen extra per a night when check in. It should have been included in the original price, even if that's mean raise it. It's felt unprofessional.
