This hotel is a great place to stay in Kyoto, especially if you’re there for more than a few nights! The room was incredibly spacious, and was fully equipped with all amenities. We especially liked that they provided Yukata, which were perfect to wear while we had breakfast (delicious, and delivered straight to our room!). It’s really great that you can order breakfast quite early, as we always wanted to get up before the crowds. The in-unit laundry was also perfect, and easy to use.

We had a room that didn’t have a window onto the outside, but onto the inner courtyard/elevator, so we couldn’t really open it (you could directly see into the room). The shutters are also not blackout, so we had the light from the courtyard the whole night.

We loved everything about this place, the 2pm check in, the friendly helpful staff, the very spacious clean rooms with a kitchenette & all toiletries supplied and the location, 5 mins from Toji Train station, which is 1 stop from the main Kyoto train station. The sunshine suites were 10 mins walk to Aeon Mall, which had lots of lovely shops and food outlets, yet in a lovely quiet area opposite Toji Shrine ( which is beautiful). Very close to family mart for snacks and drinks and lots of lovely restaurants nearby.

Nothing, everything was pretty perfect for 6 days in Kyoto.

Spacious, stylish, Japanese themed accommodation located opposite Toji temple, a short walk to Toji Train station which is 1 stop from hectic Kyoto station. Sunrise Suites reception entrance with crystal clear pond and garden is tucked in discretely off a paved forecourt between buildings. Spacious accommodation with traditional sliding screens, and sturdy wood panels able to be manoeuvred for privacy or to let in light; garden views or pond and lazy carp. Fitted with sink, fridge and stove top for a self catering stay. Bonus washing machine to assist travellers who pack and travel light. Wooden flooring; our preference to carpeted floors. Superb traditional Japanese ambience, well planned design reflects traditional Kyoto. Beautifully presented bento style breakfast boxes delivered fresh each morning for a traditional start to the day..

Fantastic location, right in front of the To-ji Temple. The place gives strong ryokan vibes — the rooms are spacious, and there’s a beautiful internal garden. The provided yukatas are very pretty, and the Japanese breakfast, served in the room, is both delicious and filling (you choose your option the day before). Rooms are well-equipped with a washing machine, kettle, fridge, and induction cooktop. The staff was very friendly and welcoming. They offer three free parking spots, which can’t be reserved — but we were lucky to be the only guests traveling by car.

The hotel is located in front of a main road. It’s fairly well soundproofed, though some noise can still be heard.

Feels traditional yet new looking absolutely awesome throughout all the way to the amazing rooftop with To-ji pagoda and city panorama views. Unique breakfast included and if staying multiple days you can try all options. Friendly polite and helpful Staff. Washing machine with dryer (Panasonic NA-FW80S3) was so practical and dried all types of clothes with no damage.

Noise from the street as the door is traditional sliding wooden door with barely any isolation so the noise especially cars but also from the hallway but even the cold gets in, hence why the AC is on non-stop on 28C ironically also making some noise. No coffee and no sugar, only tea. Far from anything other than To-ji.

The rooms were big and clean. Also a nice design - good combination of modern comfort and traditional look. We even had our own washing-drying machine in our bathroom, which was a blessing halfway into our trip. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Kyoto Station is a 20 minute walk away, or alternatively you can take several busses or a train of the Kintetsu line. Then it is only about 8 minutes. So it is ideal for daytrips to Osaka, Nara or anywhere around lake Biwa... However, the typical Kyoto tourist destinations are a bit farther away, it took us both about 45-50 minutes to Kiyomizu dera and Arashiyama. But public transport runs frequently enough. However, Toji temple is basically at your doorstep, at the time we were at Sunrise Suites it even had a sakura illumination event, which was a nice plus. All in all I can very warmly recommend this hotel, if we come back to Kyoto I will be sure to return there myself.

Sunrise Suites are conveniently located about 500m from the Toji train station which is then only one stop from Kyoto station. Rooms facing the main street may have a view of the Toji Temple. The Japanese style breakfasts that were included with our room were awesome. This property was a great way to be exposed to food that we would not normally get to eat. Staff at the property were also absolutely lovely! They even held our luggage after check out so we could pop to Nijo Castle before leaving.

Bed was a little bit harder than our preference and pillow was also a little hard. But these are personal preferences only and may not be the same for everyone.

This was our second stay at Sunrise— we liked it so much we booked our Kyoto stay around availability here. The location is great. It’s an easy 15 walk through smaller quiet streets from the station. It’s 5 minutes to both north/south or east/west bus routes. The immediate area has a grocery store, no end of small local excellent restaurants, a couple of good coffee shops and a convenience store. Plus you’re right across the street from an impressive pagoda. As the hotel is set back from the street, it is quiet. The design throughout references many aspects of Japanese culture sometimes with a more modern take. The rooms feel spacious and comfortable, and the small kitchenette is a bonus. The staff are exceptionally gracious and pleasant. Our Japanese is extremely limited and all of the receptionists spoke very good English. Strongly recommended.

We liked everything about Sunrise Suites.

We loved the authenticity of this hotel - from the entrance to the breakfast we felt we were experiencing the real Japan. Everything was very comfortable, the washing machine a real bonus, the shower was great and the bed excellent. We loved the true Japanese breakfast and enjoyed trying all the foods so different from what we are used to. It was beautifully presented as well. The location was good - about a 20 minute walk to the station.

Everything was lovely really. The only negatives were the room wasn't as sound proof as others have been but only between our room and the reception area - between rooms was fine. And it was often hard to find the reception people to ask questions of for planning our day.

We love the spacious room, toilet and bath area! It is close to Toji train station and there are city buses available which are easily accessible to other areas like Kiyomizudera etc and other shopping streets nearby. We find the location convenient enough.

Everything is good. Nothing to complain about. Breakfast can choose among 4 choices. We stayed for 7 nights and after having the same breakfast for 3 days, we told the staff that we do not want the breakfast to be served anymore for our remaining days of stay. There is a small kombini just some steps away and we bought our breakfast there. Tasty food sold in the kombini too!
