I loved EVERYTHING about it. From checking in to checking out. The rooms were spacious, the bathroom was great, the amenities were excellent, and the breakfast was very special. I recommend this place to anyone who is traveling to Kyoto! You get a very good quiet Japan experience!

Feels traditional yet new looking absolutely awesome throughout all the way to the amazing rooftop with To-ji pagoda and city panorama views. Unique breakfast included and if staying multiple days you can try all options. Friendly polite and helpful Staff. Washing machine with dryer (Panasonic NA-FW80S3) was so practical and dried all types of clothes with no damage.

Noise from the street as the door is traditional sliding wooden door with barely any isolation so the noise especially cars but also from the hallway but even the cold gets in, hence why the AC is on non-stop on 28C ironically also making some noise. No coffee and no sugar, only tea. Far from anything other than To-ji.

The rooms were big and clean. Also a nice design - good combination of modern comfort and traditional look. We even had our own washing-drying machine in our bathroom, which was a blessing halfway into our trip. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Kyoto Station is a 20 minute walk away, or alternatively you can take several busses or a train of the Kintetsu line. Then it is only about 8 minutes. So it is ideal for daytrips to Osaka, Nara or anywhere around lake Biwa... However, the typical Kyoto tourist destinations are a bit farther away, it took us both about 45-50 minutes to Kiyomizu dera and Arashiyama. But public transport runs frequently enough. However, Toji temple is basically at your doorstep, at the time we were at Sunrise Suites it even had a sakura illumination event, which was a nice plus. All in all I can very warmly recommend this hotel, if we come back to Kyoto I will be sure to return there myself.

This was our second stay at Sunrise— we liked it so much we booked our Kyoto stay around availability here. The location is great. It’s an easy 15 walk through smaller quiet streets from the station. It’s 5 minutes to both north/south or east/west bus routes. The immediate area has a grocery store, no end of small local excellent restaurants, a couple of good coffee shops and a convenience store. Plus you’re right across the street from an impressive pagoda. As the hotel is set back from the street, it is quiet. The design throughout references many aspects of Japanese culture sometimes with a more modern take. The rooms feel spacious and comfortable, and the small kitchenette is a bonus. The staff are exceptionally gracious and pleasant. Our Japanese is extremely limited and all of the receptionists spoke very good English. Strongly recommended.

We liked everything about Sunrise Suites.

We love the spacious room, toilet and bath area! It is close to Toji train station and there are city buses available which are easily accessible to other areas like Kiyomizudera etc and other shopping streets nearby. We find the location convenient enough.

Everything is good. Nothing to complain about. Breakfast can choose among 4 choices. We stayed for 7 nights and after having the same breakfast for 3 days, we told the staff that we do not want the breakfast to be served anymore for our remaining days of stay. There is a small kombini just some steps away and we bought our breakfast there. Tasty food sold in the kombini too!

Was very comfortable in the room -the atmosphere is soothing, and the rock garden in the entrance hall is beautiful. Easy distance from Aeon Mall (10 min on foot) and Kyoto Station (20 min on foot, or 5 min with Kintetsu - train station is five minutes away, excellent access for the Shinkansen). Breakfast was very nice, it came as a bento that was brought by the room each morning at the selected time. I appreciate that there was a choice, including a vegan option. There is a mini-stop convenience store right next door, and a supermarket and other convenience stores are 5 min down the road on the way to the Kintetsu train station.

The shoji screens that serve as walls/window blinds are beautiful, but they also let through light. There are no blackout curtains. As I was on the first floor (aka ground floor), I heard people entering and leaving the lobby and the noise of traffic fairly loudly. That's not a huge issue for me, but if you are sensitive, I would recommend asking for a room further back and/or 2nd floor.

Lovely traditional style hotel. With lovely big rooms . And To-ji Temple a world heritage site is just across road. We also enjoyed the small family run teppanyaki restaurant only 60m away

Sunrise suites is further away from main Gion district than we realised . So we didn’t feel the Kyoto vibe until we walked into city hub,this took just over an hour. We caught public back , as the Station was not too far away inly about 15min walk. You will also need to have an eye mask to block out light when sleeping as window screens very transparent for light

I loved this hotel, one of the coolest hotels I've ever stayed in. I'm from the US and when I travel abroad, I like to stay in places with a local feel; Sunrise Suites has that local feel, for sure. The room was comfortable and roomy with a great look, the staff was very nice, the food was good. If I'm ever back in Kyoto, I'll stay there again without a doubt. I'll recommend it to friends and family, also.

The only downside of the hotel is the sound proofing. I could hear some sounds from outside my room, e.g., other guests, staff, etc. It is a quiet hotel, though, so it didn't really disturb me much.

The staff were so lovely and rooms were authentic old Japan looking, beautiful gardens inside & out with lots of running water and a fish pond at the entrance..We found traditional garments for us to wear in the cupboard the last night so dont forget to look for them. The bed was very comfortable. The location was fantastic. We could see Toji temple from the roof as it was across the road so had a point of reference for miles. Bus and subway 5 minutes walk for both. Set back from the street, we had the rooms at the back so was super quiet but can't imagine the front ones would be too bad either. 24 hour convenience store 2 doors up and 3 more a little furthure down, plenty of little restaurants close by. Loved it 10/10. Thank you so much for having us 🙏

We had a bento box for breakfast every morning. It was really yummy but got repetitive as there was little variety. But it was very convenient and started our day off well. We didn't have to think of food until lunchtime or beyond. Also not much open early but food at convenience stores is so good.

What an amazing hotel! The view alone was the clincher as our family's favorite hotel during our 2 week trip. We stayed in the 4th floor family room and could see the Toji pagoda out of most windows. If not the pagoda, then we had lovely greenery. One more floor up is the most amazing observation deck with sweeping views of all of Kyoto. Other favorite things were the in-room washer/ dryer unit, plenty of space to move around and have luggage, and the amazing delivered breakfast bentos. The walk to Toji station is right around the corner. Kyoto station is a bit farther walk, but you can get there in 1 stop from Toji. There is a grocery store, plenty of konbini, and restaurants all very close. Plus, Toji Temple is a must-see and much more peaceful pleace than any of the other bigger temples in Kyoto. If you are looking for a lux stay that feels authentic but at a very reasonable price, then this is it! We can't wait to return!!
