Lovely ryokan just a very short walk to the shores of Lake Toya. Great onsen (both indoor and outdoor). Loved that it has guest area and with a selection of complementary sake, macaroons and mochi. We had the kaiseki dinner (choice of 3 types ranging from 4400-8800yen/per person). Breakfast had a good selection of traditional Japanese food. We stayed during Golden week so there wasn’t much in the way of choice in town at all. Dog friendly also (we would have brought ours if we could).

Whilst it didn’t bother us, it is a little dated, so if you are looking for a western type 5 star experience, this isn’t that, but there is charm in a traditional ryokan.

This property has a wonderful onsen, great location, the staff were so kind and helpful, gorgeous views out the windows, a fantastic stay to access Rusutsu ski resort if you have a vehicle and would like to experience proper traditional Japanese hospitality. There was sake sampling in the lobby in the evening as well as some delicious desserts and sweets to sample, and coffee, tea, and juice available in the morning. Absolutely wonderful and would stay again.

We loved everything about this place, it was a lifesaver after a terrible experience with Rusutsu accommodation left us stranded.

Upon arrival there was a staff member to greet me and assist with checking in. There were at least 7 different sakes to sample and some light snacks as a welcome gift. The rooms that I stayed in were in the traditional Japanese style consisting of a futon on a tatami floor with a more than adequate comforter and pillow. The spa had a nice outdoor onsen as well as a 'wet' sauna, also with a cold pool, AND an ice pool to recharge in. The breakfast option was a Japanese style buffet, filling and varied, but I can't comment on the dinner option as I ate out as there were several recommended restaurants nearby. I stayed on 2 separate occasions on the same trip to Hokkaido, and the rates more than double for the weekend. Sure the hotel looked dated, and in it's day I'm sure it was quite posh, but the value is still there, the service was friendly and attentive, the facilities all work and are clean, and thus I can recommend.

Perhaps the aging look of the hotel, but I think this is easily overlooked. One of the bathrooms I had had peeling walls by the tub.

The onsen, sauna, open bar at the evening and the cleanliness. I had an issue with my bathtub on the day I arrived, it was clogged. I called for repairs and a staff member immediately came after I called. The issue didn't recur.

The room I stayed in was clean but was a bit rough around the edges. Some of the wall paper was pealing off, the furniture while in excellent condition felt a bit old and worn out. It felt like going back to 1970's Japan with all the colors and furniture. This was the first hotel in Japan that had a clogged bathtub, while I understand it's not something expected (and they fixed it immediately) this just shows that some of the facilities need renovation.

Fantastic. This is a hotel but in the style of a ryoken. I had half board and was served some amazing delicacies for dinner. Breakfast was also provided with a huge choice. Both breakfast and dinner were traditional Japanese meals. No Western food at all, which made it such a great experience. Lots of fresh produce, especially seafood. Drinks were provided from 3pm free. Including sake. The onsen was wonderfully hot, and there is a cute hand spa out the front. It is very convenient right on town and a few minutes from the lake. Also, I was able to do some of the local hikes into the foothills. The Konpirra - yama Foot route is great. Highly recommend this hotel. The staff were so helpful and friendly. Even free bikes for rental.

Traditional but the same time modern hotel. Huge room with Tanami and the box with everything ready for tea ceremony. Natural sourced hit water used in onsen. Pleasant onsen. Traditional japanese breakfast. We did not try their dinner, but should be also of the top standard. Very close to the lake. You can see bits of lake and passing boats from your windows. Also you can enjoy every evening firework from your room with tatami. Should note that modern facilities in the room are also of top standard: table, two chairs, fridge, TV, lovely bathroom and smart toilet. Staff is very professional and look after you. Good parking for your car. Lovely promenade alongside the lake. Many interesting point to visit by car.

Please ignore any bad comments you read about this hotel on booking. Com. Because they are not true.I was being fooled by those bad comments. So I didn’t reserve dinner.First of all , this hotel is full of Japanese customers , I probably was the only foreigner there. Secondly, that’s the best breakfast I have ever had in my life. I am fancy hotels membership in Taiwan. 5 stars hotels are part of my life. Honestly , their breakfast is even better than 5 stars hotel’s buffet breakfast. Maybe that’s because I do love Japanese food.Very purely Japanese style breakfast ,Oh, I really love it.The thirdly, their onsen is awesome, the rate of room including breakfast is incredibly cheap. My room is huge . I am only one person having a huge room. Lake Toya area is full of very expensive hotels which I think it is not worthy of spending so much there. Only this hotel, I highly recommend it. It is already on my list must visit at least once in a year.

Nothing. So perfect.

Staff were friendly and welcoming, and incredibly helpful when our travel plans were very different from those of most guests. Facilities were fantastic, the nicest rooms, onsen (and sauna!) of our entire trip. A great base if you want to daytrip up to the skifields of Rusutsu (30~40 mins by local bus), and want to get out of the overly Westernised trappings of the resort.

The gender divide of the onsens was unfair, with a stark contrast between the two facilities. Women have access to the sauna in the morning, men in the evening. As skiers not sitting around the hotel all morning, the women in our group had no access to the sauna.

Didn't realise how geared the ryokan was towards families: it has a play room, child-sized yukatas in the gift shop. It has gender segregated onsens that alternate between morning and night. There is only 1 sauna and the men take the night while women take the day. I like the lounge has coffee and desserts with free flow in the reception. They didn't offer bicycle rentals which was a shame which would be nice for cycling around Lake Toya.

They offer some snacks and drinks when you check-in. The staff are very friendly and very welcoming. They offer you a ride from and to Toya station for free which is really helpful. It’s also located in the center of everything at Lake Toya so you can just walk to places easily.

Our room had mold in the ceiling and our windows were pretty dirty which made our stay less enjoyable when we decided to watch the fireworks from our room since it was raining outside. Other than that the place is super nice.
