Such a perfect stay - we were blown away. The place is in a very beautiful onsen village in a quiet part of Japan. Super easy to get to from Takayama & to visit Kamikochi. The owners were so kind & accomodating. We had a huge traditional bedroom complete with futon, tea & kimono. Private outdoor onsens we could use as a couple. The food was absolutely incredible. Soooo much love & thought went into every course. It was the best meal of the trip. Thank you so much for having us!

The futons were a little hard but that is to be expected & worth the traditional Japanese experience

Beautiful and cozy ryokan at Hirayu Onsen, about a 45 min drive from Takayama. The kaiseki dinner was AMAZING. They really loaded us up with good quality, buttery hida Beef grilled over a charcoal irori. We were absolutely stuffed by the end of the dinner - a lovingly prepared multi course meal with grilled veggies and beef, soba noodles, tempura, sashimi, dessert. It’s a very local place for many Japanese tourists - most of the signs, menus were all in Japanese so we had some trouble with translation. Staff were lovely and helpful!

The indoor onsens were SUPER hot. If I’m not mistaken, we were told that the onsen temperature ranges from 74-98(??) Celsius My husband and I went to the indoor gender segregated onsen on the first night and felt very ill immediately after with high fever and chills/rigors. It was a pity because the outdoor private onsens looked so cozy but we didn’t get to enjoy it :( The outdoor public onsens were of a more comfortable temperature and the water felt really smooth on the skin Luckily our heat injury resolved after a day of paracetamol and hydration The futons were pretty thin too so we had some trouble sleeping, but it’s also probably because we were running 40 degree fevers ahaha so everything was uncomfortable

The staffs are so friendly. I got a warm welcome like I stay with Japanese family. They did every things such as receptionist at a lobby, serving the foods, making the bed. There’s not much people around so you can feel peacefully and pretty private. - Dinner and breakfast was so good and a lot of foods came including hida beef. There are 3 private onsen rooms, men and women public bathroom with indoor and outdoor onsen - Good location and have private parking

- There’s no private shower room inside the room, so if you want to take a shower, you need to go the public bath on the first floor only - No elevator from parking floor to the lobby. I went there with a large luggage so i need to carried it up the stairs with a heavy weight.

The inn is not crowded. We manage to try out all the private bath without having to reserve or book. Some private baths are tad small for more than 1 person to get in but the view to the nature is good. The inn is also very clean and dont feel run down or old at all. Things are relatively new . The food is also good and serve a ridiculous big portion of meat hida beef.

The inn is slightly too in from the main road but still very convenient and near the hirayu bus terminal.

I love everything about our stay in Yunohirakan. The hot bath was wonderful. We loved the outdoor baths looking out the little forest covered in snow. Room was large and comfy. The dinner was amazing. Hida beef was delicious. The breakfast was also tasty. The service was also great. They were very welcoming and kind to us. It feels more personal and private here than other bigger ryokans. Such a lovely memorable experience for us in Japan.

Location excellent. Hot baths excellent. Very clean. Traditional.

We arrived late and they would not serve us the dinner that we had paid for. This would only be served between 6pm and 6.30pm. This would not have been a problem except that we were still charged for it. They did not suggest alternatives. We found a lovely local ramen bar which was fine. The futons are extremely thin and hard. Pillows are traditional and made from grains.

I would definitely recommend this place to anyone who enjoy authentic Japanese style meals and hot spring. The family run this hotel with a lot of thoughtful care and hospitality. The traditional Japanese meals were authentic and served with fresh Hilda beef and local vegetables. As a hot spring lover, the hot spring were beyond expectation. There are private room and shared room for hot spring, and they all have great view of quiet forest. (It was snowy the day I came, and the experience of bathing hot spring in a snowy forest was superb.) The owners are very friendly and kind!

The facility is relatively old (but very well-maintained). We still enjoy our stay a lot.

I loved staying at Yunohirakan! The staff was so lovely and kind, I felt very welcomed. The room was very comfortable with a nice big window. The traditional meals served were very good. I don't eat meat and they got me a good alternative. We booked Yunohirakan because it was located near the bus terminal for Kamikochi. If you want to visit Kamikochi I would recomend staying here as it makes the commuting time easy as it is a 30 minutes bus ride to Kamikochi.

The onsens/hot baths are not super comfortable as they are facing the wild and there are bears on the area, it would be nice to have some kind of a fence between the onsen and the forest to make it feel more comfortable and not soo scary at night. The water looked a bit dirty but I'm unsure if it is because of it being natural.

I would highly recommend to take their breakfast and dinner set. They provide high quality Japanese ingredients, and very generous portions! The lady boss carefully explained each dish in English and Japanese, and also the method to consume the food. They have 3 private onsens availble, with different sizes. Very suitable for all types of travelling parties, family, couples, solo traveller etc.

Amenities for onsen were very basic. I have been to other onsens where they provide high quality skin care products which was not found in the resort. I think this is very important for the ladies.

An excellent place to stay. Food was excellent and facilities were great. The private onsens was the main reason we decided to stay here. They had a small, medium and large private onsens on top of the public baths that were available. Very easy to access and the perfect getaway for myself and the wifey!

It was just as advertised. The town is a bit remote, but expected. Google maps had an incorrect picture of the ryokan and made it slightly confusing when we checked in.
