Its a very cozy hotel , the surronding area is very good. Alkmaar is a small city and this hotel is situated very conveniently. from the Alkmaar station its about 15 mnts walk but if you have heavy luggage take a taxi dont walk its far when you walk. I had a back pack it was a good walk as wanted to see the walk path to/from station. € 8-9 taxi. If departing from AMS schipol take the intercity train to ALKMAAR not alkmaar nord. may be you will have one change in between. take a one way day ticket aprx € 12. if travelling by train where ever opt for return day tickets but to Alkmaar you cannot use Amsterdam only tickets. From the hotel if you go right hand side you get supermarket jumbo they have many food items. The hotel room & toilet condition was good n clean. bed linen fresh n clean, kettle and tea stuff given no drinking bottles of water. plenty of space to keep clothes. no safe locker. please note NO LIFT I made a blunder by asking for a upper floor room lol. reception staff welcoming and fast check in. wifi very good.

At checkin time hot water for a shower was not there but quickly it was rectified. No lift. no pipe music in the lobby.

Location, staff and building

Room wasnt clean. Coffee machine water holder filthy. Kettle needed descaling. Some if the furniture needed repairing.

I stayed here before, but this time I decided to splurge for a suite. The room was nice, clean and spacious as expected and (as before) it was very well located near the church where the Moxcon game fair was held. I enjoyed the market in city center when I arrived on Saturday afternoon. I also took the time to enjoy the sauna in my room both to recover from my train trip to get to Alkmaar and at the end of the day after the fair concluded to relax. Perfect!

I did not get a chance to enjoy breakfast at the hotel (again) because of the fair times and my checkout time. I was not a fan of the type of elevator in the hotel, basically a platform in an open elevator shaft. Although the room was clean, I imagine they aired the room by opening the windows, because I had to squash some flies during my stay, but that was only a minor quibble.

We were treated by a lovely receptionist who helped us check in. She asked if we needed any restaurant recommendations or anything at all! The room is very spacious and clean, and the room complimentary items were fantastic (good coffee machine). The aircon was definitely welcomed! Water jet bath was great! The location of the hotel is perfect for a stay in Alkmaar, a beautiful town!

Check-in was quick and easy. Parking near the hotel is not great, but we knew this so we parked way outside the city and traveled by bike to the hotel. Everything else in the hotel is quite as expected. Decent beds, good sized rooms, fine and clean bathroom. (

The ventilation in the bathroom was on 24/7, but this wasnt too loud with the bathroomdoor closed.

We got an upgrade to a junior suite with a jacuzzi bath which was lovely. Comfortable bed and a/c. Staff were very friendly- the bike store was unfortunately full but we were directed to a free guarded bike parking facility very close by. In good walking distance for the cheese market and good restaurants. Good, varied buffet breakfast in the morning, at an additional cost.

I have stayed at the Grand Hotel on a number of occasions over the past few years and always enjoyed my visits. The hotel is located in the centre of the town with many restaurants close by. The staff have always been very friendly and helpful and the recent renovations to the hotel have helped make all stays very enjoyable.

Room was spacious and linen was clean. Big bathroom. The main street is adjacent to the street the hotel is situated at. The weekend market is right at the hotel's doorstep! The bicycle rental shop is just round the corner so it's convenient. Very near the city centre where the cheese market is held and yet not right where the noise is.

It is some walking distance (11 minutes) from the train station so with a lot of luggage, this would be difficult. But it's a stone's throw from the city centre.

Brilliant room, great breakfast, very friendly staff who are very attentive, booking in perfect. Situation of hotel could not be better, a return is a mist

The location of the Grand Hotel Alkmaar is superb—right in the center of Alkmaar and close to restaurants, shops, parking, and the cheese market. The staff was wonderful—warm, helpful, and gracious. Breakfast featured lots of choices and a great coffee machine so that you could be your own barista.

The bathroom had little counter space —room for a toothbrush but not much more, and the shower could be improved with the addition of a handheld device. Please add a couple of hooks for towels.
