The location is convenient, as it's close to all tourist attractions and a bus stop. The accommodation is a unique experience, and the staff were very friendly and helpful. Everything was very clean! The bathrooms were spotless.

The hostel is in the same building as some local shops, and it is accessible to any walk-ins. One evening, there was even a tour group that came in to look at the building, which I found a bit weird. It's not a deal breaker, though. Keep in mind that you sleep in cells, so in the summer it's very stuffy and hot, and I would assume in the winter it's quite cold.

this has been such an amazing experience for me, this was a jail alright, but decorated and furnished in such a warm cozy way. the staff has been very kind and understanding to my needs and the location is very convenient. They have rooms for every need you have, lounge, bar, kitchen, cozy spaces to read or rest, you just need to explore a bit.

the only thing that i could think of is that this is not a place for the light sleepers, this is by far not the hostels fault, but it can get pretty lively it being a touristic spot.

Its a prison whats not to like. It offers the opportunity to sleep in a prison without going through the hassle of breaking laws, going through the judiciary process and being detained at someone elses pleasure 🙏 The staff we SUPER friendly and couldnt of been more pleasant. Breakfast was decent and remember its a HOSTEL not a luxury hotel , however its also a social place and i chatted with other guests.. its lovely to not be cowed by snobbery and for me it did the job as advertises. Its all you really need and i will be going back with friends and family to explore Leeuwarden a little more. Its a fair walk approx 15 mins to the centre but thats exercise ..

Cant fault the stay as it met my expectations 100%..

The location is great, it is a really weird feeling to get 'lock-up' voluntarily but it was a good place to stay in Leeuwarden. Very conveniently located to bus lines, the center, and restaurants. The toilets and showers were very clean and nice hot showers.

The breakfast was a bit disappointing for the price you need to pay. The rooms are fine but quite hot. There are no screens so if you open the windows, all the bugs and mosquitoes get inside. It would be nice to have at least a fan or better protection from the sun/outside heat.

It was one of a kind experience to stay in a former prison. Moreover, the building has been restored in a very nice way, meaning that it felt warm and inviting despite its initial function. The room was clean, the mattress and the pillow were comfortable, the shower was good, the curtains were thick (read: no disturbing light), and the neighbourhood was quiet, with all kinds of facilities at walking distance.

The window could be opened only by climbing onto the bed, there was not enough light in the room, and there was some noise coming from the bathroom (the boiler?). As I sleep with earplugs, I was not really bothered by it, but that could be an issue for people who do not use earplugs. In addition, because of the specific architecture of the building, I could hear people talking in the 'hallways'.

The concept is great. Staff amazingly friendly and helpful. Rooms and communal areas really clean. Room was comfortable and simple but with adequate space. Kitchen and lounge areas great to take your meals and sit with tea or coffee. Location in Central Leeuwarden was great 10-15 mins to railway station. Fascinating creative hub in the vicinity and businesses in the same building.

There was very little not to like. Some noise from the street in the night but this was not really a major problem.

The location was amazing! The blockhouse is such a historic site, and it was neat to see the way it is currently being used. The staff was beyond excellent. So friendly and helpful! They happily storied our luggage when we arrived before check in, and they stored it again after check out so we could see more sites in the city without lugging it around. The place is clean and surprisingly cozy for being a converted jail. I would highly recommend to anyone staying in Leeuwarden!

The only thing that I didn't like were the mattresses. They were highly uncomfortable.

Very good location, comfortable room for solo and for groups, possible to prepare the food by yourself (highly recommend) or pay for the hostel offered breakfast (I tried once). Good place where to stay for students during their 2 weeks project. Electronic room key and in the evening outdoor too.

First time little bit confused because main gate was closed and possible enter in the hostel territory from the side street.

They sell a certain feeling during your stay. The former style of the original jail was renovated, renewed and formed in a building that combines actual hostel-comfort with the older times of crime, murder and punishment. The doors, floors and the construction of Block H is like in 1847 when the prision was built. Closed in 2007, well done. We had an unforgetable and a pleasant stay with our kids.

I missed Nicolas Cage and Sean Connery fighting eachother while escaping from Alcatraz. 😉

It was very clean and had a taste of originality. The staff was very friendly and nice.

I don’t think the pictures on your website does the place any justice. The place looks even better in reality than on the website haha.
