I recently stayed at Van der Valk Hotel Leeuwarden and was thoroughly impressed from start to finish. The hotel is modern, spacious, and immaculately maintained. My room was large, with a comfortable bed, stylish décor, and a spotless bathroom equipped with a rainfall shower. Small touches like the coffee machine, generous desk space, and quiet atmosphere made it perfect for both work and relaxation. The breakfast: unfortunately I didn’t have the chance to try the breakfast. Location-wise: the hotel is just outside the city center, making it easy to reach by car with free parking, yet only a short drive or bike ride into Leeuwarden’s charming old town. What stood out most was the staff: friendly, professional, and genuinely eager to make guests feel welcome. From check-in to check-out, everything felt effortless and well-organized.

Location for non-drivers – It’s outside the city center, so without a car or bike, public transport can be less convenient, especially at night. Price – While the quality is high, some guests might find room rates, restaurant prices, or breakfast costs a bit expensive. Limited late-night options – After the restaurant closes, there aren’t many food or drink options nearby

Great room, great breakfast. Good location.

Rooms have balcony that is shared with the whole floor. This means, you actually can not keep the door open or have the curtains open at all without having control. Ex. All at once a (maintenance?) guy walked by on 'our' balcony. VERY inconvenient !

Luxury room, all equipment new, spacious bathroom with both bath and shower. Fridge and tea/coffee facilities in the room. Located on the edge of town, by the highway, with big parking lot. Friendly staff.

Balconies do not have partitions, so if you leave your balcony door open, anyone from different rooms can walk in. Smoking is permitted on the balconies. Bins for recycling are missing – in the rooms / floors / on the reception. No place to sort out paper, plastic, organic waste.

Sauna was exceptionally. Breakfast was a good spread and worthwhile. Front desk staff was very helpful with lighting issue.

Super picky: Toilet bathroom light was automatic and stayed on longer than I personally would have liked after late night bathroom usage.

Big spacious room like - really big, almost a studio, with a giant bathroom with shower and bath, wc in a separate room as is customary in NL and BE, a hallway, a big desk and an AMAZING balcony with an even more amazing view to the Dutch platteland. The restaurant was also excellent.

Nothing in particular, it's not close to the city, but we knew this in advance so it wasn't a problem

Exactly what we needed at the end of a long day! Nice room, quiet, great bar area where we watched the Olympics, bike storage, well constructed, and very nice staff.

I loved that there was a sensor next to the bed so when I got up during the night, the sensor turned some low level lights on. The bed was very comfy and big!! The breakfast was plentiful and tasty.

Because we didn't know the area we had an evening meal in the restaurant as we were very hungry. Unfortunately there wasn't a menu in English and had to rely on Google to translate. We did ask for help from the waitresses but even that was time consuming. Waited to check out but there was no one there so left our key on the desk.

The dinner and breakfast were very good. We had requested gluten free and vegetarian the waiting staff were very helpful and made sure that they liased with the kitchen so that we got what we asked for.

Cosy and stylish room. Complete bathroom. Small but good gym. Free Sauna. Plenty (free) parking. Good food. Perfect complete breakfast. Quiet rooms. Nice balcony at each room. Spacious.

Be reminded that it is outside the centre of Leeuwarden. We knew this when we booked.
