I thought the hotel itself on balance was really cool and great value. Quirky and old fashioned. The staff were all friendly and helpful, especially in the restaurant and bar. We had a couple of meals at the restaurant, which were perfectly decent and just about reasonably priced. We had a superior double room each, which included an amazing view of the beach. The features of the room are fairly standard, but all were working, clean, and tidy. Breakfast was decent enough, with plenty of options. I especially liked the bar area, which has lots of booths with views for a cosy drink with your travel party. A taxi is 10 euro into Cascais, or rental scooters or bikes can be found on the path that runs along the coastal road.

The 4 star rating of this hotel is simply inaccurate. Maybe it was in a bygone era, but certainly not in its current state. However, this was obvious to me before I made the booking given the pictures and previous reviews. The swimming pool was out of action, and the central courtyard was undergoing refurbishment, with no notice as to how long for. Please don't let this put you off. It's charm and location by far exceed these minor criticisms. You would pay a hell of a lot more to be in a proper 4 star Hotel in Cascais, with limited views and charm. With a world-class beach on the doorstep, who needs a pool anyway?

The owner of the establishment met us upon arrival. Mr Tony in his 90 plus young years and his lovely family are gracious… kind and loving . This Hôtel is more like a home. The property bost many historical factors that are a must to see and hear about. In a way it reminded me of a movie set. Mr Tony is very proud of the property- it started with four rooms.His father and family continue to build upon and make it was as it is today. Every nook and cranny is intriguing . You step back in time with the old Spanish Portuguese style . The rooms are modern with all the proper fire code enforcement. Elevator. pool. Adjoining the walls are pictures of celebrities presidents kings, princesses and people of royalty stay in this beautiful property. Rose Kennedy and the current present of Portugal stayed here. if the Walls could talk, and if you’re in tuned to speaking with spirits, you could actually feel the presence of these people (all good souls) especially in the ballroom and as you walk down holding onto the banisters one could only imagine those that graced these majestic walls. Dining and Bars with snack food are available .Dining and Breakfast overlook the ocean . Breakfast buffet was delicious especially the yogurt drink. There are no coffee pots or tea pots in the rooms, but in our room (balcony view ) had a mini fridge. Outside beach bar . Excellent staff. Beach location is key ! In Europe -I found beachfront doesn’t always mean you can walk straight onto the beach. Many times and often times you must go down many steps or a cliff in order to obtain Beach access. ….. But in this case, the beach is literally outside the door. Golden Sands await you . They do not offer beach chairs, but on the beach, you can obtain beach chairs from a local vendor. They do offer beach towels. Lifeguards are on duty The surf is enormous and perfect for board surfing- kite surfing and for swimming, The waves are definitely very strong.

Everything was great

Stunning property and the staff were all s friendly and welcoming. I stayed in Cascais after and this hotel STILL served the best food I ate the whole 12 days I was there, the sea bass and risotto was DELICIOUS! The views as well were breath-taking. Massive bedroom windows that open up to the beach. You can literally lay in bed and see the surfers outside catching waves! Lastly, coffee in the evenings in the cosy bar area where they had these traditional stone and wooden booths looking out over the ocean and homemad natas! I would definitely stay here again!

The location was absolutely amazing, the ocean was a sight to see. We booked the basic room which didn’t have the sea view but was spotlessly clean, which suited us for out two night stay. The staff were always cheerful and made you feel welcome. Breakfast was included which was plentiful although we had some issues.

As I said the breakfast was plentiful and the food was of good quality. The small issue we had was the coffee and tea dispensing machine required an overhaul as it was so slow, and made you feel embarrassed holding up the queue. The bread toaster in my opinion also required attention, again it was so slow.

I booked a room with a sea view, It was outstanding. The staff were extremely helpful and polite and the owner was very much present and hands on. The hotel felt like a home away from home. The rooms are modern and the hotel communal spaces full of character. The contrast is quite pleasing I appreciated the simple as of the room vs busy communal spaces

Cleanliness could be better there were stains on the floor under the table, the breakfast was quite basic and more of selection would be great. The car park was very busy due to surfers and beach goers parking in the car park. We were never without a spot, but we may have just been lucky.

Beautifully located next to the beach, with surf and kite schools nearby. Breakfast was basic but very tasty. Staff exceptionally nice and helpful, they’ve let me stay a bit longer past my check-out time as I had a photoshoot in the morning! Bar, sports bar and restaurant on premises. Highly recommend it!

The place is a bit outdated and asking for renovation, but other than that clean and pleasant.

The service was good, staff so friendly and helpful and the food in the restaurant was amazing. Fantastic fish dishes! Intriguing hotel in an old fort, with lovely huge sea water swimming pool. We loved Mr Muchaxo, a charming gentleman!

The breakfast was not up to the same standard. Only scrambled egg, tinned not fresh fruit, coffee machine slow. Croissants were lovely but only offered once.

Friendly staff, spacious and clean rooms. I really liked the beds large and pretty firm. With the sounds of the ocean at night I slept exceptionally well. Giant pool (and I don’t mean the ocean)

Parking can be a bit limited on sunny days when a lot of people visiting the beach park their car around the hotel. There are a couple of reserved hotel spots and a few more behind a corded off part alongside the hotel. Don’t think this is enough if the entire hotel is fully booked.

Breakfast, the overall feeling (dirty windows, mix match of all kinds of styles and furnitures, no styling but this doesn’t mean it should be over the top stylish or trendy, there is a lot of potential to make the place neat and pleasant)

I took the cheapest room so I don't know if the other rooms had the services I did not find. I would just add to the room the kit that lots of hotels offer: a boiler and some tea, something in mini bar, in the toilet I would add the courtesy kit and air dryer (the had it in the reception so it was not a problem, but in the high season could maybe happen that someone would stay without). I wanted to call reception from the phone of the room for an information, but I did not find the number, so I had to go myself. This is just an advice to perfection, because Estalagem Muchaxo is amazing and I would suggest everyone to go there.
