A great value for the money! Convenient location in the middle of the city, near sightseeing areas. The old hotel is clean and very well kept. The rooms are also are big enough to have comfortable space. The bathroom has been renovated to be quite modern and clean, and the very soft water used for bathing is excellent, making it as good as much more famous and expensive places. The very large meals are also very unique, featuring local ingredients and preparation. The dining room is comfortable, and you do not need to kneel down on the tatami to sit.

There are no private toilets or sinks in the rooms, and the sink area outside the rooms have nothing to dry your hands with. Only the sinks inside the public toilet/restroom has paper towels. The addition of paper towels in the sink area outside the rooms will make this hotel problem free. Not unexpected in such an old hotel, there is no elevator in the hotel, and rooms are on the 2nd floor. So, luggage must be carried up the stairs to the room. If you are not physically able (disabled or elderly), I suggest contacting the hotel to see if they can accommodate you.

The food was delicious and the presentation was great. Explanations of food and how to eat them were (especially the ayu) detailed. I liked that only one room had the bath in a selected time period. The bath was relaxing. The staff were very helpful and were aware of the guests. At breakfast, my left over rice dish was made into rice balls which I ate for lunch.

It was located 15 minutes walk from the train station. On my first night, an ambulance passed by at midnight. Although I had no problem with bugs, my friend in another room complained about them.

The staffs there are the best I had compare to any hotel I stayed in Japan. Even a 5 stars hotel is no match. The staff at Tagato made me feel like I am more than a quest but a friend visiting their home even their english is very limited. If you speak some Japanese, I believed that you will enjoy more than I did. ( I do not speak Japanese but few words). The place is not modern but it is so clean. I shared the bath and the toilet for my two nights stay but I did not run into another persons when I used the restroom. The dinning area is very stylish and the food is excellent. They used not expensive ingredients prepares a great meals. I have been in Japan 17 times and I enjoyed my two dinners and breakfasts very much.

It is close to 20 minutes walk from train station, to me it is not a disadvantage but some potential guest may feel different way. They provide parking space so if you drive, the location is not an issue. Also, there is a big nature Onsen bath house near by, Fuji bath, you can use it if you enjoy the public onsen bath like I do.

The property it is incredibly clean and well maintained in its fantastic traditional structure. The hosts are super friendly and sweet. Although their main language it is not English they do their best to fully communicate with you. You book your time for breakfast, dinner and the bath( which is private to you and your party). The room was very cool and super comfortable. The food was delicious and it felt like a feast all the time. I couldn’t recommend it more.

Nothing everything was perfect! It is important to know that there are some steep steps to get up to get to your room so if you have problems with this bear this in mind.

This is the place where you should go if you would like to eat some amazing Japanese food. It is a traditional ryokan that serves various dishes for dinner and breakfast. I enjoyed spending there 2 nights. The nearby area is full of curios shops and Tsuruga Castle is within 30 minutes on a walk (better to walk following Dr. Noguchi Street, it has a nice vibe) I was traveling by bicycle and they helped me to store it inside.

Well, no laundry was a tiny disappointment, but nearby was a coin laundry, so not a big problem

Wonderful hotel! All the staff are so friendly and welcoming. The room was clean and comfortable. The twin beds are firm and the bedding was nice and warm for winter. The bathroom in the room is compact and functional, and there was the option of the private bath downstairs. The food was outstanding- the taste and presentation was incredible! Be prepared for a full stomach as everything was delicious! The breakfast rice bowl (plus the other dishes) was the best way to start the day, and coming back in the evenings for a home cooked meal was very relaxing and special. I hope to come back one day.

The food was excellent, and the variety and regional dishes absolutely incredible. The futon was a little thin, but the room was spacious and the tea/snacks delicious. There's also a mini fridge which was awesome for sake. The bath facility is perfectly luxurious, and they offer massage too but we asked too late to book one. The staff were very friendly, polite, and accommodating and I enjoyed interacting with all of them. I very much look forward to staying again!

The futons were thin, but otherwise the pillows and duvet were comfortable.

I loved my stay here. The stuff was very kind and helpful and they tried the best to communicate despite not speaking a fluent English. The dinner was superb, and I enjoyed a lot the breakfast as well. The bath was very nice and overall the structure was clean, traditional and cozy.

I think the price matched the quality of the services, so I really do not have any negative points to highlight. Since I visit during winter it was very cold but that's normal in a ryokan, and the room was equipped with a heater and I slept very well.

The food was delicious, plentiful and allowed us to try traditional cuisine as well as some new foods we hadn't tried before. An open mind is required for some of the sashimi's. The futon beds were very comfortable and the bathing room was amazing. The hostesses were so friendly and helpful, we were travelling with our 10 month old and they all loved him and were understanding when he was loud at times. We would love to stay here again in the future. Knowing basic Japanese or using Google translate is highly recommended if visiting this accomodation.

- Very charming ryokan conveniently situated within walking distance from the JR Nanokamachi station and in close proximity to attractions like the Noguchi Hideyo Seishun Street and the Suehiro Sake Brewery. - The meals (dinner and breakfast) were the highlight of my stay. Having told the staff in advance that I had food allergies, they went above and beyond to servemeals for me that were safe for me to eat but also very delicious. The variety of dishes served was impressive. The staff also offered to create onigiri (rice balls) out of my unfinished breakfast. - The staff were very warm and accommodating and their interactions with guests contributed to the ryokan's very homely atmosphere. As a thoughtful gesture they gave me an akabeko keychain upon checkout as a souvenir - The private hinoki bath was a delight (note: you have to book it in advance during check-in) - The futon in my room was exceptionally fluffy and I slept really well
