This is an amazing hotel! Located on the bank of a beautiful river with public onsens scattered along it's banks. All rooms face the river, with balconies. The red suspension bridge is for the hotel, and a lovely way to begin your stay. Our room was a traditional tatami. We were the only non-Japanese here, and by 'here' I mean in the entire town! We missed dinner on our first night so had to get a train one stop to Hita as Amagase has no evening restaurants. But that was easy as the hotel is only 150 metres to the train station. You can sit out on the communal balcony and watch the occasional train rattle by on the opposite riverbank. Dinner and breakfast the next day we're fantastic! Traditional Japanese fine dining of several courses, some cooked at the table! The staff spoke English well enough to get by and were always happy and patient. I used their natural onsen facilities which were of a very high standard. If you are looking for a truly Japanese experience, I'd highly recommend Seitenkaku! Amagase is a quiet town with no night life. But just relaxing and listening to the river run by is reward enough.

We travelled as an adult couple. In Japan they go naked into the public onsens. So just in case it might cause you concern, you will see several naked bathers on the opposite riverbank. Nothing negative to say about the hotel itself. Will be returning.

The bath was very beautiful and comfortable. The scenery around the hotel was stunning. The room was also comfortable, with the added perk of being able to sit and enjoy the beautiful view outside the hotel.

It's a bit of a pity that not all packages include meals. There are no restaurants near the hotel.

Everything was stunning !! The onsens were really calm and relaxing, the staff was very friendly, the room was pretty, clean and comfortable. We had an amazing experience here !

Love the location in the river. Felt quaint and not commercialized. We walked about and a friendly lady gave us flowers from her yard. Short walk to the Sakuradaki Waterfall.
