The response quality, patience and timeliness of the staff from my inquiries was very appreciated. The inner courtyard had a nice breeze and our 2 bedroom villa was nice. It was also very clean (be aware if you have not traveled to tropics, there will be little sugar type ants but that does not mean it wasn't clean. That's just the nature of climate). There was two small grocery stores withing a half block walk which was very convenient. Also the Raw Bar next door was delish and ceviche of the day was the cheapest we found anywhere.

What we didn't like is not really reflective of the hotel or staff but it's location. Although it's walking distance to two beaches, there were some disadvantages to be aware of. Again not fault of the place but be aware that dogs and roosters can start up as early as 3:30 AM, it's expensive for groceries and taxi ride to Surfside/Potrero with more restaurants and shops, taxi charged us $15-$20 ONE WAY. The only 1stworld complaint is that they could not provide more than 3 hangers for a two bedroom villa ;-)

Lovely hotel of separate casitas surrounding a pool. Clean, extremely comfortable bed, howler monkeys in the trees behind us that you could hear and see at different times. We ate dinner at the restaurant one night because we didn’t want to venture out in a thunderstorm and the food was great. Walkable to the beach and from town but a bit far from town if you don’t have a car. The hotel did provide a great taxi driver when needed.

A bit far from town, and hard to walk on the road. The best way to get most places was to walk on the beach. Town beach was dark sand and fine but not one of my favorites, but a beautiful beach was just a 15 minute walk away.

Separate cottages of the hotel provide intimacy. Well thought out and maintained greenery: palm trees, cacti, banana trees, guanaste, flowering shrubs. In the middle is a swimming pool. Without leaving the hotel, we encountered the fauna of Costa Rica: sloths, iguanas, a herd of howlers and other monkeys, birds and colorful butterflies. Our suite was furnished very functionally. The entire facility was very neat and clean. We often enjoyed a very tasty pizza prepared on site. The hotel has a very good location. Portero Beach is right next door, and about 500 meters from the hotel is Penca Beach with yellow sand, almost empty at this time of year. There are two well-stocked stores and a fruit bazaar within 150 meters of the hotel, as well as several places to eat and a church nearby. The hotel staff was very knowledgeable, courteous and always available. They helped us resolve problems with the airline losing our luggage and with our car rental.

Lovely set up of rooms/villas in well kept gardens and a nice pool. The little bit of luxury we wanted for the end of our trip. It is near the beach but at a fairly busy junction, the road isn't an issue from the rooms. We could hear howler monkeys every morning. The bed was really big and the bathroom was lovely. I'd recommend paying that little bit extra to have the patio and glass sliding doors. There is a restaurant and 2 small supermarkets within walking distance.

The breakfast was OK but basic with little choice. You have to tell them in advance if you want to go to the 1st sitting 07:30-08:30 or the second 08:30-09:30. We were going diving at 07:15 and asked if they could do anything earlier, it was a flat no. The area in general is a little odd....feels like it is missing a 'hub'...you really need a car to get around.

Just what we wanted, quiet, residential feel. Villas were perfect for my family: adults in one studio; kids in a 2br w sofa futon. Rooms were exactly as described. If there was a sofa bed, there was a sofa bed. The pool was nice. Luis the manager attentive & fair. The community has a real authentic feel- beach is a 3 block walk down the street. Best food in this town!! love the bakery about 500 m from the property. You’ve got to find it! Actual bagels and jalapeño cheese croissants. Amazing coffee everywhere. Ask housekeepers to do your laundry 🧺 for $15US a medium-lg bag.

Rooms had a few Costa Rican ants. 🐜

This was my 3rd time in this property. 1st time was in June 2021. They have kept the same level of quality. They really take care of the property. Beautiful property. Breakfast is delicious. I loved the option of buying additional extras. The waiter was super helpful. Olivier I think was his name. Very helpful. Everyone was nice. Thank you very much.

I think the white sheets needed to be better cleaned. We saw a couple of stains. If you need total darkness bring something to cover your eyes. The curtains are good but the sun is very strong.

We really enjoyed our stay at Bahia Esmeralda. The room was very clean and well furnished. The staff was really friendly and helpful. We also loved the beautiful garden and the pool table.

Breakfast was okay but the included choices were a bit small and we ended up ordering some extras. Small pool area with only a few sunbeds and no place to relax in the shade. There is a beautiful big garden there so there would be plenty of space to put up some sunbeds or lounges with sun protection.

Beautiful gardens and very comfortable rooms, but the location is the best thing of all! Just a few minutes walking from Penca and Potrero.

Our first room had a noisy AC due to it not being connected to an outside vent – it made sleeping quite difficult. However, upon informing the staff, they quickly and kindly relocated us to a different room. We were very grateful!

Breakfast was great! We stayed two nights and each morning there was a table set for us. They have a pool that we went in both days. We walked to the beach which isn't touristy at all and has black silty sand. Not far down the road are restaurants (we enjoyed the Beach House Bar and Café del Sol is beautiful and has amazing coffee). Its only a 30-40 minute drive to Tamarindo. We got back late from Tamarindo and there was a man that came out to make sure we were guests which was nice because we felt safe. (you have to wear a wristband on while you are there)

The only negative thing I could say is the howler monkeys woke us up early one morning but honestly it was pretty cool to hear them.

Great location, lovely staff, fantastic breakfast. We loved the gardens and pool, and its so easy to access beaches nearby. Wonderful restaurants nearby or grab a great pizza at the hotel. Everything you need is here in a wonderful tranquil place. Do try the nearby bakery for wonderful cinnamon rolls!
