Came to stay mainly for the demon slayer vibes. Enjoyed the performance and it was beautiful! Dinner was great. Food was good and service was good. They explained everything and able to enjoy myself fully. Breakfast buffet was nice, and I enjoyed myself with the selection.

I didn't like how the open bath during the evening was only for private reservation. You can only use them in the morning which was a shame.

We wanted to visit the so-called Demon Slayer castle hotel. It’s out of the way so we rented a car rather than take transit. The drive itself was four hours from Tokyo. From the parking lot staff, to front desk, housekeeping and everyone there… the staff were all amazingly kind and patient. Not everyone speaks English, but there are a few. The rooms are spacious, clean, and very ryokan style (tatami) and the onsen was super clean. We had Kaiseki dinner and it was quite the experience. Food was delicious at dinner and the buffet lunch was traditionally Japanese. The stand out for us was the AIZU yogurt and AIZU maple syrup made from local chestnut trees. If anyone at Ookawaso reads this, please accept our thank you. You were all wonderful and we hope to visit from Canada again someday. Thank you for your patience with my eight year old son and our horrible Japanese.

We had an incredible stay here: the ryokan is impressive (especially the arrival with the person playing the shamisen), very beautiful, the food excellent and adaptable (we took vegetarian meals), the establishment is child-friendly (e.g. yukata at their sizes, arrival kits, high chairs and adapted cutlery), the room is magnificent and very suitable for a family. A bookable shuttle service is in place and works very well, allowing us to leave and arrive from Aizu Wakamatsu station. We also reserved the outdoor bath for private use: incredible! The staff is adorable and helpful: thank you very much!

Nothing :)

The staff were extremely friendly and very customer service oriented. The room and facilities were of extremely high quality - I felt as if I was in a 5 star hotel. The dinner was perfect. Hot springs are very pleasant.

The breakfast, though high quality, was not to my taste - It was traditionally Japanese and there were no other choices available. The buses were not easily available, and I had to take a rather expensive taxi from Aizuwakamatsu as it was getting late when we arrived via train there.

Ookawaso was a great stay. The kaiseki dinner is fantastic and the shamisen performance in the evening is great as well. There is a sake bar where you can fill your own glass of sake in exchange for coins which was very convenient when drinking lots of it. One of the staff members can speak perfect english since she was born in the Philippines and she was really lovely and made sure we had a great time. The onsen facility is great but the private outdoor onsen is not worth it - super hot so we couldn't get in it after booking it for an hour. no option to mix cool water into the pools which was a real bummer. They provide a free shuttle directly to aizu wakamatsu station which was great for us. Overall great stay

Private onsen is way too hot and you can't adjust the temperature

breakfast was good with quite a bit of choices. Was very surprised at how good the croissants were, as good as those I had before in Paris. Something different was the 'Egg fried rice' which was whipped egg whites on yummy rice and a raw yolk. Definitely should try the Outdoor bath, its beautiful.

the trains and buses were not very frequent so need to time your activities well, otherwise taking the taxi can be quite expensive. But the hotel makes up for it by offering free shuttles and transfers at Aizu-wakamatsu and Ashinomaki onsen stations, reservations required though

Simpy WOW! It is really an amazing place. We stayed there for one night just to get the experience in staying in a ryokan with onsen. We like anime so we chose this one as it has some features of Demon Slayer anime :) Room was amazing, sleeping on futons was really comfortable. Room was spacious. We were wearing yukatas during our stay and it was just amazing! Onsen was wonderful! And the dinner - OMG - super tasty! we felt really welcomed there and taken care of. One staff member who spoke English very well was explaining us what we were eating, how to cook different parts of the meal etc. It was so lovely. We really appreciate that! If we ever come to Japan again we will go there for sure.

This is an impressive onsen hotel. All rooms face the natural mountain side above a fast moving river. The lobby is exceptional with live traditional shamisen music played nightly before the dinner hour. A river of water cascades through the ground floor of the lobby which adds the sound of rustling water. Guests may have (optional reserved) dinner meals in rooms near the moving water. All in all the lobby, onsen, food, and staff make for a relaxing location. The river views in any season are amazing.

All rooms have not been refreshed and we found ourselves in a room the first night which was dated. The following day I convinced the hotel to move us to a different room which was really impressive and all amenities were new. The view was nearly identical since all rooms face the same mountain.

Beautiful ryokan, there's traditional music performance at the centre of the lobby from 4pm-6pm. The manga/anime Demon Slayer infinity castle based on this hotel. Well presented and tasty kaiseki dinner, good selection of breast buffet and great customer service. Available yukata that fit all sizes including baby/toddler (very cute). Spacious Japanese room with river view, although the facilities/furnitures are quite old. Interesting public bath with three tiers open bath with river/mountains view. Not so convenient to travel on public transport, but great with rental car to get there.

Outdated facilities/furniture, selection of amenities can be improved.
