We had 12 incredible nights in 2 beach huts with our 8 and 5 yr old, they were 5 metres from sea and 5 metres behind from pool. The pool was gorgeous and a must with small children. We hadn’t been to KOH mak before so were hugely relieved how great Makathanee is! The better beaches are other side of island but that’s only 5 mins in a golf buggy and the Makathanee is a one minute walk from restaurants/shops/ice cream/chemist/massages - so the location was brilliant too. The last night we were in a top floor apartment which was also great. The staff were beyond brilliant!! So kind and helpful, especially a lady called ‘ Wow’ at reception who’s English is brilliant. The hotel is clean, a little run down in areas but rooms and pool, perfect! Breakfast, my girls loved, huge buffet.

Huge family room, upstairs 3rd floor over looking the pier. Stunning, couldn't ever get tired of that view ever!!! Both bedrooms had their own ensuite's. Near nice little restaurants, shops, great vegan restauran nearby. Stunning view from Up in the Clouds bar, part of hotel, but too expensive drink prices! Could be something special. The swimming pool is nice for kids, particularly. Gardens is quite nice. Pier is very handy for speedboat transfers, which was worth its wait!! On nice beach, with cocktail happy hour and great sunset and music playing.

Basic breakfast Islands issue of sandfly that give nasty bites. Many visits to chemist across road !!

The Makathanee Resort Hotel on the beautiful Island of Koh Mak still has the best location there is. Sure, you can find other properties that could be argued better but they cannot beat the location and price value of the Makathanee. From the moment you arrive you are warmly greeted by our good friends Wow, Syfa and Phon. They all speak perfect English and go out of their way to make you feel comfortable and welcomed immediately. On a daily basis Da, Da & Lee keep your room clean and make sure all your amenities are restocked. If you head up to the the "Head in the Clouds" bar/lounge and deck overlooking the perfect sunset you will meet Som who will happily take care of all your food and beverage needs as you watch the sunset and the sky get painted in amazing colors. Pros: Excellent location Excellent clean grounds Excellent Housekeeping Clean breakfast buffet included with the daily room rate Excellent white glove service from entire staff who are extremely happy and helpful to see to your every needs. Extremely Excellent value for you spending dollars In Summarization - you will be hard pressed to find a better located resort than the Makathanee and we highly recommend this property to you. The price of this property is more than fair and you would be hard pressed to get this kind of value on any other Island in Thailand.

Beds are hard. They could easily fix this by spending the money to upgrade the mattresses in all the "Premium" rooms. The WiFi Access points need to be totally upgraded so that their is ample internet connectivity throughout the premises They need to upgrade all of the "Premium" rooms with new Smart Tv's They need to supply comfortable pads on all the day time lounge chairs for the comfort of their guests **** NOTE - this Island has an infestation of Midges, also known as sand flies / No-See-ums that bite you without you realizing it 3-4 hours later. This is an entire Island problem not a specific resort problem. These are way worse than any mosquito bite you have ever experienced so make sure you use deet when anywhere near the beach

We stayed in the beach cottages. The room was spacious with large windows overlooking the sea and it was nice to sit on the terrace and watch the seascape. Friendly staff. There were a few sun loungers here and there on the lawns of the beach, so you didn't have to lie down next to anyone else. Services very close by, including a couple of small shops, Thai and a couple of Western restaurants, and a couple of beach restaurants along the beach.

This is definitely not a luxury resort, the places are a bit old and worn, but clean. Breakfast is quite limited. Swimming is difficult, because the sea bottom is really rocky, I recommend swimming shoes. However, the price was affordable, and I couldn't have expected better facilities for that price. So I could highly recommend it as a hotel in that price range.

My travel partner was bitten by a dog on a morning walk. The staff was so helpful in having a taxi take us to the clinic and wait for us while he was treated. They also arranged for the taxi on the next two successive days we were there. The rooms are clean and comfortable. Nice view out to the sea. I like they have grassy area you can hang out on chaise lounge chairs during the day. We also ate at their In the Cloud restaurant. Great view out to sea and wonderful food! Breakfast offered the usual choices with relaxed place to eat. Nice pool also. Went in that each day. Plenty of places to eat around there and a pharmacy right across the street.

A bit dated, but too many other positives overshadow that!

We really enjoyed our stay at Makathanee! We stayed in one of the villas straight on the beach and got to experience a lot of magical sunsets. The rooftop bar was also a very nice extra. Breakfast was good and the staff is really lovely. Many restaurants near by so very convenient location.

The overall impression is that the hotel has seen its better days. Outside one of our windows was an abandoned hot tub which made the impression of the property very run-down. Also fire security seems to be very lacking, as most places in Thailand. Get some smoke alarms!

Great location and resort for Koh Mak. They have their own pier out front and possible to get speed boat to and from there if coming from Koh Chang or Koh Kood. Stayed in beachfront villa - great outlook across lawns and water. Gardens and are well maintained. Staff are lovely. Easy walk to multiple options for food and supermarkets and to hire motor bikes. Pool is clean and refreshing. 2nd visit to the island and this resort - loved the beachfront villa.

Some elements around rooms and resort are due to be updated (like shower head in room we had) but everything is functional. Breakfast was plentiful but Thai options were ok - not great. Coffee in the machine very bitter. Water pressure in shower was low.

Perfect location right on the beach with plenty of restaurants, massage, gelato and convenience stores in walking distance. The most beautiful views ans sunsets. Quiet and nice vibe. Helpful staff with good English skills in the reception. The pool is nice and with fine temperature. Breakfast is nice, and the restaurant is good, Value for money. If possible: Choose a beach bungalow.

We stayed 6 nights at an upper floor room which was inconvenient due to small children - but the view was spectacular.

This resort is right on the water with chairs in a grassy area. You can enjoy the sunset from here each night. Their upstairs restaurant called Hight in the Clouds has excellent food with a beautiful night view. My travel partner got bitten by a dog on a morning walk. The resort helped with transport to the clinic and they waited for us there till medical attention was done. Good breakfast. Staff is helpful and kind. Rooms are clean and comfortable. Would recommend and would stay again.

The rooms have not been updated for a while it seems.

Coming from Koh Chang we took the Kai Bae Hut speed boat which passes along the coast of the last few beaches then drops you right off at Makathanee’s pier! This was an excellent way to arrive at the resort! The hotel was in a great location close to other cafes, restaurants and bars which was a real bonus in the evening as some places can get a little quiet at night.

The bed!! Such a shame as was so hard! Lucky we only had two nights as this really is a downside. The towels are old and washed out too and look grubby.
