There was a little bit of a confusion when check in, indicating that we would have to move rooms even though we had done one continuous days booking, but Emiliano did everything in his power to sort it out for us. The room was 100% as the photos. Rooms do not have internet but the property did everything in there power to solve internet issues for us. The location is just right on the Santa Cruz de la Laguna port, so easy access. We did not partake but they offer family dinners every night which I thought was very good for all the young travelers that stay at the hostel. Very safe environment. The owners also very nice and very, very accommodating to our needs. Breakfast was also very nice. I recommend this place for single young travelers. Family, community oriented.

The confusion at check indicating that we had move rooms the following night, but it was promptly solved by Emiliano, who was great.

This place has such a good atmosphere! There were fun evening activities and family dinners every night, which made it really easy to meet other travelers. Our private room with bathroom was clean and serviced daily. The location right on the water, with a dock and hammocks to chill in, was beautiful and super relaxing. Food was tasty (breakfast, lunch, and dinner), and the happy hour prices were hard to beat. Also a great base to book activities like diving or paddleboarding during the day.

Wi-Fi is only available on the terrace, and there’s no guest kitchen or shared food areas—so you’re kind of limited to buying meals on-site. Our bed was very narrow and squeaky for two people (there was also a separate single bed). The fitted sheet kept slipping off, and the hot water in the shower was a bit inconsistent.

I loved the surroundings, the lovely people I had the chance to meet and the family dinners which were great!

I had booked for 5 nights but as soon as i walked into the dorm I reslized it was not the right place for me. So, I changed to 2 nights. The room was so small and crowded it was imposible to even fit my carry on suitcase in the assigned compartment . I had been to many Hostels around the world and it is the 1st time this hapoened to me. It was a pity because otherwise I would have stayed as planned. On top of that, the 2nd nitght, one of the girls had an awful cold, I slept wearing a mask. I was a afraid to catch it.

Would have to say La Iguana Perdida was the highlight of our stay in Guatemala l! So chill and relaxing - pure joy. The entire staff was amazing and simply put rays of sunshine. Definitely do the sunrise trek - about 2-hours of your time where you’ll have an opportunity of a full view of the lake and the most amazing sunrise. WiFi was good - just not in the rooms. The gardens were beautiful, the dinners are served family style which allowed opportunity to mingle with other guests. Portions were big and there is always a vegetarian option. I would say this hotel caters to a younger crowd however there were people of all ages. I would highly recommend staying at the Iguana Perdida! I already miss Daniel, Micki and Emiliano! Oh and it’s right ON the lake! Must visit San Juan for the best artwork! You can visit “La Casa del Mundo” since it’s considered on of the lakes “gems” but honestly unless you are ready to climb endless stairs it’s not worth it - Q25 x2 for ferry and Q50 for a day pass - honestly unless you stay there just admire from pictures and afar. We went and all we did was nap on a hammock. You’re better off hopping on the ferry and visiting the adjacent lake towns.

Lovely volunteers that were very friendly and trying to connect with everyone and make you feel welcome. Really nice and chilled vibe. Family dinners were easy to connect with people but also very tasty and healthy (always a salad and vegetables). Good happy hour options. Facilities were cleaned daily. Dogs were well behaved and cute. Right at the lake front, next to the boats.

There were 2 bathrooms for a dorm of 8 people, a single person room and three double person rooms. So if 2 people shower, the rest had to find a different toilet. Not ideal, but hostel life I guess. Also it's quite noisy with music from the neighbours until 23.00, tuctucs racing past and you could hear every leaf falling or bird walking on the rooftop. The bed of the 1 person room was slightly crooked so i felt like i was rolling to the left side often. Not a problem for me, but if that would keep you up at night, you should find a more peaceful hotel to stay

The location is beautiful and a great, laid-back atmosphere is created at the bar area and during the family-style dinners. The restaurant has a lot of tasteful food and drink options at reasonable prices. We booked the Luxury Suite which has a great view over the lake and a nice terrace with a.o. a hammock. We would come back.

Although Iguana Perdida offers (and charges for) more ‘luxurious’ rooms, we felt that the standard did not meet the price we paid (around €95 per night). The bed sheets had stains in them, there are no toiletries other than anti-bacterial hand soap, the room was not cleaned everyday, the room is maybe a little outdated (very squeeky bed, old sheets and pillows, outdated bathroom, etc.) but this may be part of the Guatemalan style. Other than that, we really enjoyed our stay.

Came here based on recommendations of other travellers and we absolutely loved it as our base on the lake. It’s conveniently located in front of the Santa Cruz pier (the views are incredible and it’s easy and convenient to jump on a boat to another village), the staff are nice and helpful, there are lots of daily social activities (some paid, some free), the vibes are super chill, there’s a laundry service, and the rooms & bathrooms were clean/cosy. We did the family dinners twice and had a fun time mingling with other travellers.

Something to keep in mind is the public boats around Lake Atitlan stop running around 5/5.30pm, so if you don’t want to take a private boat after hours, you have to be back in Santa Cruz by nightfall. And Santa Cruz is quite quiet and doesn’t have many options for dinner. That said, it’s great if you’re after a quiet and chill place to stay after day trips out

I was searching for some downtown after a hectic few weeks of travel. The location was ideal for me as the boat dock is right beside entrance, and it was a pretty sleepy area after nightfall. The staff are incredibly helpful and the family dinners were amazing. I found that this was one of the more social hostels I visited, partially due to wifi only being available in a small section.

Headsup to future bookers - you're pretty much locked into either hostel on the lakeshore at Santa Cruz after nightfall which was a welcome break for me (no boats; steep uphill to locality - as a solo traveller I wouldn't go at nightfall). I also woke up with a creak in my neck one morning as there are some gapes in the wooden panelling in the hut I stayed in - I was also grateful to have additional blankets as it was quite cold at night.

A lovely hostel with lovely staff. The food served was fantastic and not too expensive. The location is very convenient to get to, right beside the boat dock. On-site activities were cool. The grounds were nice, with lots of space to lounge outside. The outdoor area was a great place to read and to watch storms across the lake. Easy to walk up or take a tuk tuk into Santa Cruz la Laguna town.

This is not the hostel's fault, but it is right beside the boat dock and the main road. My room was right beside the road and it was quite noisy. It wouldn't stop me from staying there again because the hostel was lovely, but something to note if you are very noise sensitive.

Gorgeous location, impeccably kept grounds, super friendly vibe - met lots of people. The group dinners are so nice. Great patio for lounging, activities - staff was super helpful in arranging things. Lovely place, you can tell the owner really puts their heart into this place. Special shoutout to the FABULOUS breakfasts

It’s not a negative but I wasn’t aware this was a hostel until I arrived. Def more hostel vibes but with private rooms. But it was super lovely and sociable
