June 2025

A very impressive DDR era hotel built for Intourist by a consortium of DDR/FRD/Japanese concerns to a high standard, originally opening as the Hotel Merkur in 1981. We had a very nice nice sized room with a great 18th floor view out over the city centre and well beyond. Room came with German idea of a double bed, armchair, desk with chair, fridge, TV, storage space, plus kettle and coffee machine (a rarity in Germany). Decent sized bathroom with a bath/shower.

The German idea of a double bed, two single mattresses side by side on a double frame, a regular annoyance in German hotels.

Five minute walk from the Hauptbahnhof and super-easy to find (tall building with 27 or so floors stands right out - also has a bright red label!). Comfortable and quiet room with fantastic view of the city. Excellent bathroom. Lovely scented products in bathroom. Coffee machine (nespresso). Everything working well. Everything spotless. Staff helpful and friendly.

For me, coming from a warmer location to the south, the room was quite cold at night despite it being June. There was only one relatively thin blanket in the cupboard to add to the bed. Think the room was only about 18 degrees, but as I'm acclimatised to much warmer I shivered and even after adding the blanket provided I had to add a thermal top and pair of socks to actually sleep. Yes, I could have asked for another blanket but managed - I want to say it though as I think they need to consider that not all their guests hail from northern or western Europe. Perhaps consider having at least two blankets (it was a double room with two separate bed quilts after all!). Room was also quite expensive, although I do think the price was inflated because it was a festival weekend.

The hotel is conveniently located very close to the train station and city center. Overall the staff were very friendly. The room was clean and had all the basics, plus nice amenities like a lavender balm to help you sleep. We really liked the decor and had an amazing view of the city.

As foreigners who are somewhat unfamiliar to the spa culture, we asked for guidance about how to use the sauna. Im guessing this is not common because the lady we asked seemed confused by our questions. We figured it out and it was fine but it would have been nice to get a bit of an explanation. That being said, the sauna/fitness/pool area is great, just keep in mind you have to pay 10 euros for the sauna and pool (but not the gym). The pillows weren't comfortable.

Great property Comfortable bed Great sleep Love the robes The restaurant Gusto is great The bar at the top is a highlight

Room was not cleaned during our stay , it could be my fault as I did not say at reception that I wanted the room cleaned and made. Still there was no way to let know the staff in the room that I wanted the room to be made. Also I found strange that there is no fridges. Parking, I selected the hotel for the free parking, I was charged 50 eur for 2 days . The hotel should have advise upon arrival.

I was very satisfied with all aspects. The staff were very friendly and helpful (and patient as I tried to communicate in German), the food at the breakfast and at the hotel restaurant was delicious, the room was very comfortable and beautiful, the hotel was clean, and it was in a fantastic location - only 6 minutes from the Bahnhof and 6 minutes from the Kongresshalle. No complaints!

No complaints! I was very satisfied

The food! It was excellent. We had dinner at the pub and the Brainfood Salad was excellent. The waitress there was super-nice and helpful. I have allergies and she gave great advice on what to eat. The rooms are clean and comfortable like any Westin across the globe. Incredible views and close to Christmas markets! Breakfast was great too!

They had a ratty old bathrobe hanging on the door that saw better days. That could have been retired. Room 2313. Other than that- nothing. Enjoyed my stay!

The Westin is a lovely hotel, perfectly walkable from the HBf. It is clean, elegant and the staff were friendly and helpful. Top tier!

The room had one massive flaw - there were no power outlets by the bed! No power outlets anywhere! A huge mistake for any hotel in 2025, let alone a hotel of this stature. No USB ports whatsoever. To crawl on the floor, under a desk, to plug in a phone charger is simply unacceptable in 2025.

Attentive informed bar and reception staff, great breakfast but 25Euro, fantastic swimming pool, city views, opening windows, comfortable bed, attractive room rate especially after high rates in Berlin. Easy walk to main train station and old city. Leipzig city centre a great mix of key old buildings such as the churches where Bach was kapelmeister, city hall, Auerbachs cellar arcade plus modern buildings. The apartment where Mendelssohn lived in the 1840s is now a nice museum for music lovers and is close to the Gewandhaus that replaced the earlier concert building.

Rooms are only just large enough for people travelling with luggage, no facility to make tea or coffee in room snd the bottle of water in the room was charged at 4.50E. Decor and bathroom adequate but dated.

We had two rooms. The larger one was very spacious and good for three people. Great location easy to access Christmas markets, the zoo, public transport and shops. Excellent views. Comfortable beds.

The shower door was getting stuck. We advised hotel reception so they could look at it as it was hard to get out. The hotel receptionist on check in was not very friendly. The staff we experienced the following day were lovely. Family had to split across two rooms.

Breakfast, location, parking,

-There is no fridge in the room! -The receptionist told us that we would have an invoice from booking.com that was not true( and we told him that this is not the right procedure),and we had to call booking.com to confirm that we were right. At the end we figured it out with the accounting department of the hotel which was perfect ( ms panzer) but the receptionist didn’t know the invoice procedure to a town with mainly business clients and we lost so much time of our day.
