We have been staying at this hotel for nearly 30 years - it is a perfect spot when heading south from Caen and has fabulous buffet breakfasts. We love the comfortable rooms, the beautiful setting and the friendly staff.

Recently the hotel has changed hands after three generations of the original management. The restaurant used to be very good. Unfortunately the standard has slipped and at least one of the dishes I chose was almost inedible (the pollock fish). We stayed for four nights and the menu never changed. This was a problem and we yearned for a more seasonal offering, perhaps some specials. It is very sad as the dining room is beautiful and the service, on the whole, good. Disappointing.

As always, this hotel combines tranquility with the charm of a well maintained beautiful chateau. The rooms are well designed as is the restaurant - the breakfasts have been consistently good over the years we have visited. Last time we stayed, we were disappointed with the restaurant but this time it was back to excellent form! It isn’t cheap but you do get value for money and the chef’s signature soufflé is back - delicious!

Our only bugbear is the reception team. They are still a little off hand - lacking the warmth of greeting that we used to enjoy.

Very well kept. Not like many sadly run down chateau. Fittings worked. Not at all cheap. Swimming pool worked too - not overgrown or covered with leaves. Excellent breakfasts and dinners but expensive.

Staff made a couple of mistakes on billing and had to be corrected but I think genuine accidents. I wasn’t hard on this but they might have been slightly more apologetic. Most rooms are not in Chateau but in the outbuildings. All very tastefully done and generously sized but my son was expecting chateau and he didn’t get that.

We stayed in the quaint Games keeper’s house. Our stay was excellent, comfortable and very memorable. We made ourselves at home and were sad to leave this location. We explored the surrounding Chateau’s in the mornings and then spent each afternoon by the swimming pool until dinner. The main restaurant is fine dining with French cuisine. There is also a snack menu which is really good and we had this a couple nights as dinner on the terrace of the hotel.

We have been staying at La Tortiniere for over twenty years. The bedrooms are comfortable with everything you need and the buffet breakfasts always good - dinner was even better than before this time and we think good value.

The hotel has changed hands recently and although on the surface, all is much the same, the personal approach is lacking somewhat. Reception especially were a little bit off hand and seemed preoccupied with their own schedules rather than delivering the personal touch when greeting guests. The restaurant was slightly under staffed too - some people had to wait a long time to be served. However, these are small points and the stay was still enjoyable.

The chateau was located within idyllic French gardens. The hotel upgraded us upon arrival which was a lovely surprise. Room was located within the main building and very tastefully done. Very comfortable bed and good quality sheets. Bathroom was large and equipped with luxurious soap and amenities. Good shower pressure and good wifi connection. No elevator but we had no trouble with luggage as the concierge helped to bring them to and from our room.

Breakfast options were quite limited.

Breakfast was very good and the restaurant location at dinner was excellent . Bed was large and very comfortable.

There was a slight smell of dampness in our room and there was clearly an attempt to improve it with air fresheners but it almost made it worse. Whilst the evening meal was perfectly acceptable it was a bit uninspiring and bland which was a little disappointing

Great location for touring chateaux in the area and also continently close to Tours. After a first night in a smaller room, we upgraded to a bigger one for a very small surcharge. The new room was incredible, very spacious, and amenities were excellent.

The room we had for the first night was rather small and could have had some touch ups.

Our room was in the annexe. Very spacious, beautifully furnished, good bathroom, extremely comfortable bed. We had dinner on the terrace, an amazing space overlooking the pool and the valley below. Dinner was awesome! A limited menu, but everything was delicious, including the wine choices.

I didn't realise that I had booked a room in the annexe, so I would have liked to see a room in the chateau. I'll make sure to do that next time.

The property is very beautiful; the location is ideal; the staff are delightful; the food is delicious; and our room, although not large, was charming and very well appointed.

The hotel does not have a fitness room, but there are excellent opportunities in the area for hiking and biking.
