It was afabulous location. The room was clean and bright. The staff were really helpful and attentive. I would stay again. Iwas surprised it was so fab as it wasn't expensive.

It wasnt something i didnt like...and this is the only reason i marked facilities down a bit. It would have been good to have breakfast served earlier. The hike from Hartland Quay to Bude is long and brutal and you cant do it without breakfast. I had wanted to get started around 7am but breakfast wasnt until 8.15. Maybe an option, for the hikers, could be a cold buffet opened earlier? An automatic toast machine? It would have been something i would have made use of.

We can't think of a hotel we have visited that had a better location in terms of views, the ever changing sea view, the view across Bristol Channel to Lundy or just the sheer spectacle of the cliffs and the rocks in the bay. Standing at the view point in the hotel grounds watching the sunset will stay with us forever. The staff were excellent, courteous, welcoming and nothing was too much for them. The Wrecker's Retreat is an excellent place to unwind after a days walking or sightseeing, a wide range of drinks and the food served was superb value for money, both taste wise and in portion size. The breakfast was superb and the residents lounge was the perfect way to relax before an evening meal, the bound collection of the local newspaper going back to the nineties was a nice touch. As for the room itself it was first class, a good size double which was comfortable, plenty of storage space, and a well appointed bathroom, it was also very clean throughout. The relative isolation of the property had more benefits than negatives, the only external noise coming from sea birds. We really couldn't suggest any improvement. It was eighteen years since we last visited this area and we won't be waiting that long for a return.

There was nothing we didn't like or anything you could improve on.

We extended our stay in Devon by one night and stayed here. We ate in the evening of our arrival (steak was wonderful) and had breakfast both meals were excellent. The room was spacious, clean, tidy, well maintained, and comfortable. The only down was noisy guests at 02:00 but that's inconsiderate people not the hotel. Views limited from the rooms but excellent outside. Yes I would go again...

other noise guests at 02:00 at least it was over relatively quickly... A hair drier would have been handy in the room...

Location is superb, you can fall asleep with the sound of sea, a lot of space to sit out and in the building, delightful lounge for hotel guests, very good english breakfast, friendly staff, clean and comfortable room, efficient heating (much appreciated in November).

No bathroom door. I don't know, maybe it is normal on the coast or normal at this time of the year, but there was significant amount of flies getting into the room once I opened the window. I had to keep it shut all the time.

Location as beautiful as it looked on the pictures. Liked the lounge area in the hotel part, just wish we'd had longer to make the most of it! Great pub food and very friendly staff. Tasty breakfast cooked to order. Liked that the beach was dog free.

As is to be expected in an old building, creaky floorboards and plumbing noises. Sounded like we were over the kitchen or something as there were noises from what could have been taps being turned on and off. The hotel is actually separate from the pub - only a few steps walk from one to the other but enough to need a coat as it's pretty exposed. But fortunately it wasn't raining!

I really loved this hotel which is surrounded by mountains hills and a beach and very far from any town. I didnt find any resort / hotel in uk like we used to get in Africa. But I think we finally found really hotel to stay on our holidays or long weekends. - Staff is really amazing and helpful as few things were new for me but the staff described me in a very effective manner - rooms were so clean and tidy. Big thanks for all housekeepers who really work hard on everyday. - Breakfast was really good as we got first complimentary meal ( like coffee, juice, tea, cornflakes etc ) but later , they had included really good menu and quantity was very good enough. - Meal was really nice and interior of bar was so creative. Specially that board’ send me pictures of Boat and Motor ‘ 😂👌 - Free parking which is cost effective - You can go for a walk or hiking a bit . If you’re planning to go for hiking then keep tracking shoes - lovely place to explore nearby

This hotel was an excellent find....and the only one available in this area of our South West Coast Path walk. The room and en-suite was immaculate and newly painted/maintained and the food in the restaurant was outstanding. We didn't have breakfast the next morning as we wanted to get away very early, so the host made us up a packed lunch to take instead - it was fabulous!

The position of the hotel is outstanding and the views from the garden and area quite stunning. Our room was well set up and comfortable with a spacious bathroom and great bath and shower with immediate hot water. The welcome book in the room was a beautiful photo book with all the information we could want. The cost was very reasonable for the room and for a little more, we could have had a room with superb views of the coast. The 'small meal' at a very reasonable cost in the restaurant was just what I wanted and the choices were varied and quickly prepared. Breakfast included a good spread of choice and the cooked breakfast was like the whole experience - quality ingredients! The staff were friendly and welcoming and quick to help for different requests.

Great location, nice people, good food&drinks. Perfect we good get a breakfasttray in the morning because we wanted to leave early. Also the available packed lunches, since there’re no shops nearby

Old building, everything is crooked, but it works. The carpet on the floors I understand if it’s so crooked but adds to the oldfashioned feeling.

The hotel was lovely, clean and comfortable. Food at restaurant great for evening meal and included breakfast also wonderful. The staff could not do enough for us and were all very attentive without being intrusive. BUT, without a doubt, the most outstanding feature of our stay was the location! The position of this hotel is absolutely amazing. The huge dark cliffs running down to the sea, teamed with jagged rocks and a pounding surf made for very atmospheric conditions! We were almost at the end of our 3.5 mth, 24 country, part World tour, and the location of this hotel was easily in the Top 10 places we had visited. Thanks so much for a memorable stay. We wish it could have been longer!
