Our visit was to celebrate our anniversary and from making the booking the wonderful staff here did everything to make it special in a very romantic lodge on the BC coast. The staff reserved the best window seat, overseeing the rugged coastline, along with a perfectly cooked roast beef dinner with the biggest Yorkshire bake and delish lemon cheesecake! Little touches everywhere in our room, including locally made island soaps and fresh cream for coffee!
Everything was special, giving us a true sense of the beautiful Gabriola island.

Location was excellent and the cabin was well equipped, clean and quiet. The shoreline was beautiful albeit rocky slabs and provided a lovely place to sit and enjoy the day.
The restaurant was very disappointing. The salads had poorly chosen greens, tomatoes tasteless and rubbery, cucumbers tough, and old lettuce. The seafood chowder was too salty and highly flavoured such that the delicate taste of the seafood was overpowered. It arrived after a very very long wait and the sauce had a skin on it.

We loved the location! The lodge itself had so much character and it showed all the love that’s been put into it over the years. We so appreciate the care that’s been put into it.
The only thing I can think of would be the shower in our room. And I say this because I am a tall person and would have liked slightly a bit more room to move around. Otherwise all amenities were exactly what we wanted.

Amazing oceanfront view! Prime quiet location Comfortable yet rustic room Great staff
Room was dated but comfortable. We were there at the end of April so the noise from the festive restaurant/pub (Friday kereoke) onsite was not a big deal. It might be if you had your windows and doors open.

After checking out, I couldn't find my cell phone. One of the workers let me back in the room, called my phone with hers. She then came out to my car with me to call it there. Got turned in at Mad Rona's, so was very lucky. Extremely helpful staff, stunning views. Quiet and could here sounds of the ocean from the room.
We came back around 10 pm from a friend's campsite and there was no hot water for a bath or shower.

We visited on a bike tour and the staff were really great helping us find our room after arriving late in the pouring rain. They also helped us with secure storage for our bikes. Room was small but clean and totally fine for our needs. Weather was mild when we were there but I would expect the rooms to get very hot in high summer. The pub on site was great to grab a beer after a day of cycling and we didn't have any noise issues despite our room being right by the entrance.

Everything the room was rustic and so full of character the pub was fun it was st Patrick's day, the food in the main restaurant was the best I've ever had in a hotel setting on the west coast
Only one thing, the restaurant, wasn't open for breakfast

No breakfast served and limited dinner service( staff shortages) but a great location and welcoming service we were warned that it would be a open jam night in the pub. There was a bit of noise but nothing that was disruptive to our stay. Great place to let locals share their talents.
Coffee maker did not work in the room.

Location and views. Dinner and service and service were good both nights.
It wasn’t quite what we expected from the on line information. There’s no potable tap water but they do provide small bottles of water daily. There’s no breakfast available on site so you have to drive to the village. Having learned that on our first day we bought breakfast food for our second day at the grocery store

The Surf Lodge and Pub is a unique property in a beautiful location overlooking the ocean. It is very rustic and in line with the area and vibe of Gabriola Island. If you are looking for a bougie Hotel and Spa this is not it, however if you are looking for some rustic charm, good vibes and a great meal at the attached pub then this is the spot for you.
