This is an old motel that has been remodeled into a hip property. Although the room was small it was very nice & had what we needed. I especially appreciated the bright lights in the bathroom, the non-slip decals on the tub floor, and FREE PARKING. We could easily walk to restaurants in the area.
No elevator. I could have used a luggage rack as there was nowhere to put your suitcase but on the floor. I was very excited about the magnifying mirror in the bathroom until I realized you had to be six foot tall to use it. If you are a light sleeper I recommend ear plugs as it is a city location with traffic noise, sirens, etc. I did see that you can request a noise machine from the front desk which is a very good idea! Rate seemed expensive for what you get but it was cheaper than anything else in the area.

The location is perfect for access to both the governmental buildings and a number of nearby restaurants. Free parking! Despite overlooking a busy street, you couldn't hear almost any street noise. The lounge area, where one can get cocktails at night and coffee drinks in the morning is very cute. Exceptionally friendly staff. Ample-sized room. Bed linens far nicer than typical. We were there during a near record heat wave and the air conditioning handled it beautifully. They've done an amazing job of taking a mid-century motel and turning it into a cute, up-to-date, retro-hip locale.
Nothing.

What a nice gem the Longleaf is! Apparently it's listed as a "motel", but it's really much more than that! The location was amazing, ten minutes walk to everything in Raleigh. Free car parking, which is a lovely bonus. The staff is the loveliest people you will meet, upon arrival we were greeted by a super nice girl who explained everything, and stopped to chat to us for a while talking about all things North Carolina! There is a bar in the hotel with a very quirky vibe - the whole hotel actually has a nice vibe, promoting local products and events. The room was comfy, seriously one of the best beds I have slept in! There are bathroom amenities of the highest quality, so you don't have to worry about bringing your own shampoo etc. There are events going on at the hotel, for example one night they had a bingo evening happening outside. I would definitely recommend staying at this hotel if you need a place to stay in Raleigh!
Nothing, everything was excellent. The aircon in our room wasn't working and we were offered a replacement room, but we were okay for one night, so all good there!

The staff was great - friendly and helpful with recommendations for local things to do and places to eat. It's a great location for walking throughout downtown Raleigh. Very fun vibe as an updated motor lodge. The cocktail lounge was well-provisioned with a nice patio. Free and easy parking ... it's a motor lodge!
Nothing really to complain about ... the exterior hallways could use some refreshing but I think that is likely more about the heat/weather. That said, the lounge, bar, and rooms were clean, tidy and fresh.

Nice to stay in an independent business. Nice to stay downtown, though it was a bit of a walk to the heart of downtown.
I was expecting breakfast to be available and a fitness room, which I thought I’d seen mentioned online but perhaps I was mistaken. Or as the front desk person said, maybe the info from when it was a days inn. The bar was quite nice but shut at 10 pm. My general impression was that the owners’ ambitions for the place hadn’t quite been realised fully.

What a gem! So glad I found this place and decided to stay here rather than in any of the bigger downtown hotels. I don’t think I have ever had a warmer, more welcoming reception at any hotel - Anna at the front desk was just wonderful, and everyone else that I encountered was super friendly, too. Loved the retro look, the lounge and patio are fantastic, great coffee in the morning, squeaky clean room with a very (!) comfortable bed. On top of that, the location is hard to beat, I could walk everywhere, felt entirely safe (a concern for women traveling solo), and even though the hotel sits off a busy three lane street, there were no noise issues whatsoever. Recommendations for breakfast places were spot on, too. Oh, and free parking on the premises, in downtown. The Longleaf will definitely be my first choice in Raleigh from now on!
What’s not to like???

The Longleaf was the perfect locationn for a quick trip to Raleigh to see a concert at the Red Hat Ampitheater with my daughter. The staff was AMAZING! The moment we checked in the staff was exceptional. We asked for a photo of our concert outfits, recommendatons for breakfast and a nice conversation with my complimentary Counter Culture coffee in the morning. The room was cute! Loved the tie dye robe, the Malin-Goetz toiletries and the wonderful bed! The soda in the mini fridge was perfect for our after concert refreshment. The shower was a dream!
My only complaint was with the fixtures in the bathroom. The toilet seat was a little wonky and the towel holder was a little loose. They were both useable but out of place in the stellar room.

I like picking places that are “different”. You guys offered cool snacks and drinks. The bathroom was clean and the housekeeping staff did a great job of paying special attention to their job, including even making a cool design on the bath tissue. (I didn’t have cash with me to leave for them and I always make a point to do this but I promise I will make it up to them next time if you will tell me who cleaned room 36 so I can take care of them, please!! Real talk, please. You have my email.)
It was a bummer the ice machine was out of order but that’s life and things happen. Not a dealbreaker:)

Its not often that I rate all categories as exceptional, but at Longleaf this applies. The old motel has been refurbished beautifully, and it feels like you're stepping back into the late 1950's when you walk in. The attention to detail in the lounge and lobby is fantastic. Maybe its childhood nostalgia, but I expect it is a lot more than that. My visit was for business, but I definitely want to come back for a leisure weekend.
I had to leave. Also I would love it if some breakfast options were added in the morning, maybe baked goods to go with the latte.

It was a nice, clean room with an excellent bed. The bathroom was clean and more than adequate. The Lighting was good. The carpets were clean and fresh. The fifty-inch Samsung television had excellent channel selection. The hotel staff was very accommodating and made me feel welcome.
The steps from the second floor to the ground floor are an exposed not too well lighted area. Older visitors might have difficulty going up and down in the dark or at dusk.
