I recently stayed at AZAL1889 Hotel in a family room, and the experience was absolutely amazing. The room was spacious, clean, and perfect for a family stay. What really stood out was the incredible staff – they were helpful, respectful, and genuinely friendly throughout our visit. Another big plus is that the hotel has its own garage, which made parking so convenient and stress-free, especially when traveling with car full of luggage, it was kept safely. I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting or passing by Calais , and I’ll definitely be staying here again in the future. Thank you to the team at AZAL1889 for such a great stay

Loved the decor and atmosphere of this beautiful home. Our room and bathroom were clean, comfortable, and beautifully decorated. The common rooms and garden were also lovely. A plentiful breakfast including meat and cheese as well as the usual bread and pastry. We found plenty of places to eat nearby, and it was very easy to walk to the Hotel de Ville, the World War II museum, and downtown restaurants. Even to the ferry terminal if you're ambitious (although I'd probably take the shuttle)

A bit of noise from outdoors and from the room upstairs, but not really a problem

I arrived very late with my young family and the owner stayed up to let us in. He was clearly tired and not very friendly but that's ok. The rooms were lovely and they prepared an extra bed and cot for me. Beds were comfortable and rooms were large. The breakfast was lovely; dining room beautiful and there was juice, coffee and teas set out, with pastries, cereal, ham and cheese. There was a games room part with a pool table too. Wish we had more time to stay and enjoy the place! It was also 10mins from the Eurotunnel and there was free on street parking in front of the apartment. I would totally stay again.

The motion sensor light in the bath was annoying as the lights kept going off during my shower as it could not detect enough motion

The décor in the house is fabulous. The host was friendly and professional. Breakfast included delicious fresh croissants, pain au chocolate, baguette, hams, cheeses and jams etc. all you could need. Parking was on the street outside, it's easy to pull outside to unload as there is a garage door at No. 16 with no parking in front and then find a space (we were lucky as a space became available right behind us as we were unloading), but we saw lots of spaces not too far away. Shops and restaurants are at the top of the road.

Lovely quirky guest house, with some really nice features. Stayed in chamber 7 there was plenty of room with 3 double beds and a small seating area. Facilities were OK TV with lots of channels. Bathroom was a good size and Shower worked OK. The room stayed cool without air con in very warm weather but fans were available. Could see the animal park from the bedroom window which was nice. Great central location within walking distance of the main bars and restaurants. Continental breakfast was available and was good quality products. The hosts were friendly.

The room was great but a 2nd mirror outside of the bathroom would have been useful. An added feature would have been a small fridge in the room to store cold drinks too. But these would be enhancements and don't detract from the stay/building.

The property is very unique. Beautiful high ceilings with enormous doors showcasing the grandeur of the building. The bedrooms were a good size with quirky artefacts. It was lovely seeing the algerian touches - the berber pottery, Idir the great musician and the serving plates at breakfast. Contintental breakfast was good with a standard self-service buffet being set up daily. There was a choice of teas or coffee, fresh orange juice, cheese and meats, spreads, cereals, baguettes and pastry/croissant served at the table. The host was very friendly and accommodating.

We thought it was a little pricey and a little dark for our liking ( personal choice).

Exquisite place. I wish I had booked for longer, is is a destination in itself. It is so beautiful and comfortable. The host was most generous, welcoming us to ‘be at home’. The garden is dream-like, the rooms are jewels. My children. (10 and 13) adored it- the atmosphere of beauty and calm, and the pool table and musical instruments. Breakfast was delicious and candles lined our way back on the night of my daughter’s birthday. What a treat

This is a wonderful place to stay. We were here for one night but will definitely stay longer next time. The hosts were so friendly and helpful- nothing was too much trouble. The rooms are spacious and beautifully decorated. The property is just a couple of minutes walk away from bars, restaurants and shops. Definitely the best croissant and pain au chocolate since moving to France nearly 20 years ago!

Very spacious and clean room. It was on the two of us but our “appartement” had three bedrooms. Good breakfast and superb location for the ferry (10 minute car ride through town). Great value for money

Very old and tall building so dragging all our lugage for three week trip up to the top floor for one night was less convenient. Although the breakfast area is huge there is only one table were all the guest sat a little cramped together. A second table would have been easy to do and more comfortable.

Great location with free parking in the street outside. Eclectic decoration with a mix of traditional and modern. Sumptuous colours. Quirky (in a very good way). Friendly staff. Comfortable bed. Large room.

Breakfast was nothing special and could do with more variety. The lighting in the attached bathroom seemed very eccentric, with ceiling lights switching on and off seemingly at random. The switch for the light over the basin was very, very stiff. Far better for these lights to be controlled by a switch outside the bathroom.
