An elegantly appointed property with a charming host. We enjoyed the garden views from upstairs out to the river and the nearby farms. The breakfasts were excellent and left us smiling. Local free range eggs and hydroponic spinach made for a healthy start to the day. We had fun walking around the streets at night visiting the local pub and seeing the glowworm dell. There was no light pollution so the skies were incredible at night. The room was spacious and well laid out. The heating system was very cozy. Sue-Ellen’s local knowledge was excellent and she gave us lots of ideas on what to do and we really enjoyed our happy hour drinks by the fire reading the coffee table books. We look forward to visiting again!

We stayed 3 blissful nights at Rimu Lodge, welcomed on our arrival just a few minutes before 8pm by Sue Ellen, who immediately phoned the local pub to ask them to keep the kitchen open so we could rush down for a pizza ( excellent & home made). When we went to Hokatika Gorge & a nearby lake, Sue Ellen thoughtfully produced a picnic rug & beach towels for us. Sue Ellen has made the Lodge exquisite with furnishings and artworks, the bed was super comfortable, the ensuite facilities are beautifully designed with wonderful soaps and shampoos. The evening drinks on the terrace every day to meet other guests was a lovely touch. The views from every room are magical. Breakfast included fresh fruits from the garden. Everything is perfect- try it - you will love it.

The property had amazing views and Sue Ellen was really helpful with making recommendations and offering suggestions. You can tell she really cares about her guests. The views were amazing!! The breakfast was unbelievable! We were shocked by the offerings and how delicious everything was. We were invited to but did not attend the happy hour, but I am sure it would have been fun. It was a real treat to stay here!

The only thing that was a little difficult was the parking - it was quite tight. Also, the walls were a little thin. We didn't have issues with it, but did notice it.

Everything about Rimu Lodge was just perfect. Sue Ellen was the loveliest host: so thoughtful,informative and with just the right level of friendly attentiveness. The Lodge is an elegant property in a gorgeous setting and Hokitika is a great wee town, full of surprises. Breakfast was superb and a generous Happy Hour was a great way to chat with fellow guests. We cannot praise our experience enough.

Sue-Ellen was a fantastic host, so knowledgable about things to do both locally and also in Franz-Josef. We had the BEST night at her local pub, (on her recommendation) on a Sunday with music, open mic playing fab americanah and others. On the way ‘home’ we then hit her local Glow Worm Dell. I thoroughly recommend Rimu Lodge for more chilled luxury, her ‘Happy Hour’ and her knowledge of the area. Thank you so much Sue Ellen, it was a stay to remember in NZ.

The stay exceeded my expectations. The host was very knowledgeable and helpful. The room was exceptionally clean and spacious with beautiful furnishings. The view was instantly relaxing and stunning. It was a super quiet location and was the best nights sleep in a very comfortable bed. Breakfast was exception and beautifully presented . Our best stay in New Zealand and highly recommend.

Sue Ellen was a fantastic host and made us feel right at home during our stay. Her extensive knowledge of the West Coast helped us make the most of our driving holiday. Our room was spacious and very comfortable. Breakfast was delicious and set us up for a day of exploring. We only stayed for one night but wished we had stayed an extra night or two. Will be back.

Sue was an amazing host, picky bits and a scotch whiskey with some lovely others that were staying. The view was amazing and the the sounds that were coming from the woods were lovely to hear. Thanks Sue ❤️

not a big con but would have been nice to have an air-conditioned room being so warm the night we stayed.

Beautiful setting, everything just lovely, the host thought about everything you could possibly need to make it a luxurious stay and gave us the best advice on sightseeing locally, would definitely recommend this lovely accommodation!

Felt welcome as soon as we arrived the host went beyond expectations. Treated to complimentary drinks , and as this journey was our retirement present to ourselves , we were surprised with chocolates and a lovely card.
