The Hotel Alex Johnson is in a great location with a fantastic rooftop bar that affords views of the Black Hills and Rapid City. Our king bed was comfortable, the room was quiet, and the blackout blinds were so effective we didn't realize it was daylight when we woke up the first morning. We will definitely stay again if we return to Rapid City.

The parking situation is a little challenging. Valet is quite expensive and the parking app for street parking wasn't working properly, which is not the hotel's fault, but it did mean we had to keep moving the car around.

A great place to stay, and the restaurant on top of the building had the best steak in town during stock show. A place I'll definitely stay again...

The strange people at the front desk came across as being a little rude, but the normal people were quite friendly and helpful.

The room was delightful! Very comfortable in every way! Also, the staff went above and beyond in helping us. Especially Ms. T. Long who went outside to be sure I understood the directions to an ice cream store. She also helped me with printing airline passes. Later she helped my husband with the elevator. I definitely will highly recommend to hotel to anyone!

Seemed to be an extra long wait for food at the adjoining restaurant.

We were ending what we called our "Dirt Trip" where accommodations were basic, so the Alex Johnson was definitely a welcome change of pace. The lobby is a beautiful example of rustic opulence, the desk staff was exceptional, drinks on the roof delicious, gift shop ladies interesting... Here's the best: hotel right across street from the Elk Theater, an old movie theater, which was playing Barbie!! Great way to finish a special trip with our 27 year old daughter. It is also in a great location, but unfortunately, our time was too short to explore much.

I like that is wonderful place great folks and services however the pet friendly part could be a bit better i love I can have my pets but to have to take them out the room to go get Ice or go down to the Car is crazy un helpful all is all it was a great stay beautiful hotel and we will be staying again

Had a great view on 9th floor. Beds and pillows were very comfortable. they let us check in early! Nice vibe.

Parking is tough. Plus loiters near hotel made us uncomfortable. Especially when we had to leave at 4:30 AM and 4 loiters (adult men around 30 to 40 years old) were just hanging near hotel.

Clean, professional staff, quick access to bars, restaurants and coffee places, prime location .

I believe I was harassed by a “ghost” during my first night , when “something” pulled my blanket while I was sleeping , and I felt “a presence” in the room for the rest of the night . Our dog was barking on and off looking at the closet for the next couple days for no reason, and it would not go near it . I didn’t realize the hotel was associated with ghost stories,until I had already checked out and somebody mentioned it to me. I don’t believe in ghosts , but it made sense in a way.

The hotel was extremely enjoyable! We loved the rooftop bar and its historical feel. The connected bar was absolutely a blast and the staff there made it such fun! We would absolutely recommend the hotel to our friends and family

The valet service was very slow and rather pricey.

Room was right off the elevator. 2 queen beds not alot of room between beds and dresser. But enough for one person to get through at a time.

All was very good.we enjoyed our stay. And liked all the history of the hotel. And loved the painted of the Hotel that we saw in the gift shop.

Nice room for a family with two connecting rooms. Location in the heart of the city with impressive views from the rooftop of the hotel. Starbucks inside the hotel very convenient. Beds really comfortable.

Some itmes a bit old need some maintenance (door knob loose, etc). Rooms connect through the bathroom. No covered parking only vallet parking on the street.
