Well equipped kitchen, friendly manager.

They had lovely Labrador dogs but their beds should not be in the reception room. The dog smell was overpowering and quite bad. We had 2 rooms with double beds. One room had an extra double blanket and the other just a single. We needed them as it was cold. Also it would be a good idea to change from heavy blankets to light and warm duvets. The shower control is typical of New Zealand showers in the 80s…1 degree to the left and it’s cold, 1 degree to the right and it’s hot. Difficult to get it right.

We have been travelling around the South Island for a week and a half and on total we stayed in 6 different places, I can tell from all of them that this was the most adorable place, very comfortable, clean but most important the best host ever. Donald gave all of us a warm welcome and gave lot of tips of what to do and visit around the area, the kids played with his 2 cutest dogs and they had so much fun. Best time everand definitely we recommend this place.

Good sized, nice clean and tidy well equipped motel rooms. Kaikoura is an underrated tourist destination, and I would recommend Kaikoura motor inn as a place to stay when taking in the sights.

All in all, I am having difficulty finding fault with Kaikoura motor inn, if anything, it is probably the location, which is at the end of town on SH1, but I would almost rate that as a positive, as it is far enough away, yet still only 5 minutes from everything..

Very close to the town centre, super friendly owners and the playground was definitely a bonus for our 8-year-old

The laundry facilities weren't working properly as the fuse kept popping out and we probably wasted a few dollars. The bathroom door didn't lock, either, but apart from that we were super happy with the place.

Family run establishment, the manager Donald was very friendly and helpful. When he discovered I walked 3km from the bus stop, he said I should have asked him to pick me up, all part of the service (or asked if the bus driver could drop me off there on the way). He did drive me to the excellent nearby (but still 1km) Lobster Inn for dinner and then to Dusky Lodge for my third night in Kaikoura as there was nowhere available for all 3 nights. I'm sure he would have been happy to do even more driving for me.

Not their fault that I booked in only a few hours earlier and there was nowhere else suitable that was closer to town.

Warm welcome, really comfortable beds. We got the option of beds arrangement to choose from which was nice. Short drive to get to the main street.

All good really. Not walking distance from town, but that's visible on the map and wasn't important to us.

Very tidy and roomy unit with everything available. Friendly host. Beds very comfortable with lovely pillows. Quiet area even though it was on the main road. Would definitely recommend and stay there again.

I would have liked a fan of some sort in the rooms because it was an exceptionally hot night and the HRV unit wasn’t powerful enough to extend in to the bedrooms.

Quiet dark room with comfortable beds gave us the best nights sleep of our summer roadtrip. The owners went out of their way to make sure we had everything we needed.

Decor a little dated, but all the positives more than made up for that.

Ample parking room for the boat. Staff were really friendly and accommodating. Beds were comfortable. Good water pressure in the shower. Good heating.

Nothing we didn't like - the unit was adequate for our needs at the time.

We were very satisfied with the room and amenities for the price we paid. It had everything we needed for 2 couples, for a one night stay while in Kaikoura for a fishing charter.

The motel advertised 2 x queen beds, however one bedroom had more of a double size bed than queen, and a bit too small for 2 grown adults to sleep comfortably. Also, it was a noisy night, but to be expected when situated right on SHWY1.
