The room was spacious, plenty of lights, very good shower and spacious bathroom. The large twin mattress was comfortable as was the duvet and lovely Walsh weaved patterned blanket, made the room look lovely and warm. The hotel staff were very friendly as were the staff at breakfast.
The pillows, which are so personal, a little too hard for us, but okay for two nights. Will bring own next time! The chairs were a disappointment, sagged in the seat! not comfortable. The bathroom door and bedroom walls were grubby, been knocked about by users. Room needs a paint facelift! A folding suitcase stand would be useful, don't like unpacking from the bed.

The location is perfect and so convenient for browsing in the local shops or travelling to other locations in the Vale of Glamorgan. The staff are very friendly especially young Ben who works in the bar.He was very helpful and obliging. I liked the secure off road parking which allowed easy access through the rear of the hotel. The log fire in the reception area creates a lovely warm welcome. A first class daily cleaning service also provides fresh towels, replacement mugs, top-up of refreshments.etc Having to take breakfast across the road at the quaint 'Penny Farthing' cafe is a quirky idea. As a lone traveller, I felt less conspicious eating my food there than I would have done in a typical large hotel dining area. There is a good selection of tables in the little nooks and crannies. It was interesting to be joined by some non- residents and observe the comings & goings as the town was waking up for the day!
My room lacked natural daylight and was very gloomy. The heavy shutters didn't help but were clearly in place to hide the mm essy roof area outside the window! (see photo) The bar menu was overpriced with an unappealing selection of food and serving the same soup 2 nights running. The hotel lacks a separate quiet lounge area. When sitting in the designated areas of the bar, it was difficult to relax due to the noise of the raucous groups of people having an evening out. I was forced back to my gloomy room to watch T.V.!

breakfast was great - although slightly unexpectedly, was in the cafe called 'penny farthing' over the road from the main hotel. We had the 'cider' apartment - spacious, and everything we needed. Two large beds - although we only tested one, but that one was very comfy. Lots of room downstairs too, and even though we had booked breakfast included, they still provided milk, tea and coffee, and a loaf of bread in the kitchen area.
The stairs in the apartment were a touch uneven, and quite steep. If you were a little unsteady on your feet, this might be an issue. We however had no real problem. If I was being really fussy, the coir carpet in the main bedroom was a bit hard on the feet. But that would be being very fussy.

Beautiful 12th century hotel. We stayed in one of the old rooms and it had a lot of character with a comfortable bed. There is a car park accessible from the rear. There is also a very modern restaurant pod at the back, with sliding windows for the hot days. We really enjoyed the food. Good breakfast across the road in a restaurant called Penny Farthing. We only had an overnight as going to an event in Cardiff, but we would love to return to properly relax and enjoy.
The bathroom was quite small and a little dated (though clean). No air conditioning, but the room did have a fan we could use.

A beautiful & historic blue plaque building. The Bear Hotel is in the perfect location on the High Street. Our room was at the back across the courtyard. It was lovely & quiet, no traffic noise. The bed was super comfy & the room was very pleasant. I appreciated the electric fan as an optional use. Breakfast in the morning was lovely, very friendly staff, fresh ingredients... great service 👏
The only negative thing for me was that the bathroom was a bit tired in places & dusty. Such as the lower parts of the heated towel rail. The bath mat had some signs of ageing. It wasn't tip top. However, the most important things were indeed clean. & it wouldn't stop me from returning in the future.

The hotel building is an attractive old residence . There is ample parking … when you locate it ! Breakfast was excellent but is across the main road and not at the hotel. Our room was large and at the back of the hotel so very quiet.
The hotel car park is not signposted . It is past the hotel and several other buildings and down a narrow lane. We checked we were in the correct place by asking a delivery driver . On arrival we were told breakfast was NOT at the hotel. Breakfast was served in a cafe over the main road . This is not explained in the hotel information on Booking.com . The breakfast was great but walking out of the hotel and over a main road in the rain was a surprise ! My duvet cover was dirty and there was debris on the carpet . I asked reception for a new cover and to have the carpet hoovered. This was done straight away.

Lovely old Coaching Inn ,easy parking , attractive restaurant on site with good food ( not cheap but good quality ) and very pretty outside bar area . Tea and coffee in room and bottled water each day . Good breakfast in pretty tea room
We were in Heritage Room in old part of Inn so attractive but the 4 poster bed was made for smaller generation so advise if you are 6ft go for the modern rooms ! Generally upstairs older parts maybe need a bit of a face lift and would have been nice to have bathrobe and hair conditioner as price per night quite expensive

Beautiful hotel, our room was lovely and very comfortable. It was exactly what we were looking for and we really enjoyed our stay. The staff were very friendly and helpful - they gave us some good recommendations and helped book us a local taxi. The courtyard was a lovely place to have a drink in the evenings.
Not the hotel’s fault, but we stayed during a heatwave and our room was very hot all through the night. The hotel had provided a fan and we also brought our own but it didn’t make much difference! It would be lovely and cosy any other time of year :)

Recommend modern rooms to the rear of the hotel. These are spacious, comfortable, beautifully decorated using Melin Tregwynt tapestry textiles. Huge bed, beautiful in every way, faultless, great bathroom with lovely Welsh toiletries. Great breakfast in quaint tea room opposite included in the deal. Free parking in a large private car park (with barrier)to the rear. Very helpful staff. I've found it hard to score the hotel fairly given our varied experience.
Our first night of 3 was spent in room 5 above the bar/entrance & was hugely disappointing. The bed was comfy but the room was in the old part of the hotel which dates way back to Coach Inn times - floorboards all wonky & creaky, old bathroom, felt tired & in need of new carpets & a lick of paint. There was a function at the hotel & we were woken several times by noisy guests in various locations within & outside the hotel. We spoke to reception the next morning & they moved us without hesitation. The second room to the rear of the hotel couldn't have been better & was very quiet. It was hard to believe it was the same hotel! Photos on Booking.com represent the rooms in the modern side of the hotel. The photo I've added is of our second room.

Great room - huge bed - all facilities for our comfort and enjoyment. Hotel was beautifully decorated and attractive both in and outside.
We were surprised we had to go across the road to a pub for our breakfast - this was fine but minimal and not an extensive choice - not up to the standard we expected when we thought the building and facilities and the high standard of the room were exceptional. This was also the dearest hotel/inn of our trip through south Wales so we thought breakfast could have been better.
