The room was spacious, plenty of lights, very good shower and spacious bathroom. The large twin mattress was comfortable as was the duvet and lovely Walsh weaved patterned blanket, made the room look lovely and warm. The hotel staff were very friendly as were the staff at breakfast.

The pillows, which are so personal, a little too hard for us, but okay for two nights. Will bring own next time! The chairs were a disappointment, sagged in the seat! not comfortable. The bathroom door and bedroom walls were grubby, been knocked about by users. Room needs a paint facelift! A folding suitcase stand would be useful, don't like unpacking from the bed.

Recommend modern rooms to the rear of the hotel. These are spacious, comfortable, beautifully decorated using Melin Tregwynt tapestry textiles. Huge bed, beautiful in every way, faultless, great bathroom with lovely Welsh toiletries. Great breakfast in quaint tea room opposite included in the deal. Free parking in a large private car park (with barrier)to the rear. Very helpful staff. I've found it hard to score the hotel fairly given our varied experience.

Our first night of 3 was spent in room 5 above the bar/entrance & was hugely disappointing. The bed was comfy but the room was in the old part of the hotel which dates way back to Coach Inn times - floorboards all wonky & creaky, old bathroom, felt tired & in need of new carpets & a lick of paint. There was a function at the hotel & we were woken several times by noisy guests in various locations within & outside the hotel. We spoke to reception the next morning & they moved us without hesitation. The second room to the rear of the hotel couldn't have been better & was very quiet. It was hard to believe it was the same hotel! Photos on Booking.com represent the rooms in the modern side of the hotel. The photo I've added is of our second room.

The setting of this hotel is perfect and well-placed to all local amenities. Staff are friendly and welcoming. There's a lovely courtyard and enclosed glass building where you can eat and drink, surrounded by the most beautiful flowers.

The WiFi was very poor and it was difficult to get a TV signal on some channels due to a 'weak or no signal' message. I would also say that my bedroom at the front of the property would have benefitted with a bit of net curtain as I had to pull the heavy main curtains together to get changed as there were windows right opposite mine, across the narrow road. There is not a lift in this property so the stairs could be difficult for older or disabled guests.

The breakfasts, served at the delightful Penny Farthing restaurant, were fabulous, as were the staff. The quality of the produce used, presentation, taste, choice etc all combined to make breakfasts very memorable. Our rooms at The Bear were clean comfortable and quiet, with large shower cubicles and comfortable beds. Overall the hotel was superb and the staff were cheerful and very welcoming. Huge efforts had been made with plants and flowers everywhere! The charm of the hotel was its quirkiness and history combined with good quality furnishings and finishes throughout the bars, restaurants and rooms. Sited in the centre of Cowbridge, the location was perfect for exploring the town and great as a base for trips to the coast. We will be back.

The prices of drinks at the bar were prohibitive and resulted in us choosing a local pub instead. Apart from that it is hard to find anything to criticise.

Location, staff, and property are overall exceptional. Cowbridge is shockingly tidy, free of litter, with alpine-like fresh air, and the kindest people you will find anywhere. The local establishments are similarly tidy and demonstrably kept with pride.

Small details. While the property overall is well-kept, the doors and handles of the assigned room can benefit from cleaning/ disinfecting. Particularly paint on entry, bath, and closet door edges; all visibly dirty from handling over time. Local literature provided on desk, radiator knobs, unsanitary from repeated handling as well.

I love this hotel. It is so quaint and picturesque 😍 It was a great location and is a lovely town to enjoy shopping and lovely food. Enjoying breakfast(included in the price) at the penny farthing was stunning 🤩 And the staff at the hotel were amazing. I have been suffering with my back and they helped me carry my bags. Couldn’t ask for better service. Thank you so much to everyone xx

My room(number 26) was lovely and comfortable. The bathroom was lovely and the bed and pillows were so comfy but the only thing I would say is that it needs a bit of an update. There is quite a big gap under the door as well. I am unsure that can be changed but I feel it’s good to mention xx

Good location. Breakfast is taken across the road. Always good, filling breakfast, with excellent service. The Bear never lets you down. Rooms are lovely, clean, have all you need. I had a room overlooking the high street. Very quite at night. A nice big comfortable bed, and always clean, bath room has shampoo etc. Staff helpful, Handy having the car park at the back of the hotel. Handy for farmers markets and other shopping, you can put it in the car and in your room, and go out for the day.

The room was away from the main hotel. Quiet and peaceful.

We stayed here for an over night stay in the superior Queen room. The stay was okay, we wouldn't stay again for the price we paid. The car park is around the back of the hotel which is not clearly located. Unfortunately we couldn't contact reception as no phone in room. The TV was miles away from the bed so you had to turn the TV up just to hear it. The door on the room wasn't the easiest to close and lock. Bog standard robe and cheap Slippers. Reception staff in the morning when checking out was not very friendly or seemed like she wanted to be there to be honest. Unfortunately overall a little disappointing.

I enjoyed the cereals and fresh fruits on the buffet table but opted out of the cooked breakfast apart from toast. My room was bigger than I expected

The carpark would have been difficult to find without going to reception first (I had to park in one of the public carparks in order to do this.) The bedside lights were very dim especially as I wanted to read. I would have preferred fresh milk for tea in my room (rather than UHT) although I expect I could have got this if I had asked.

We absolutely loved the Bear Hotel and always make reservations there when we visit Wales. The rooms are charming with a mix of old and modern furniture, the bathrooms are updated and the showers have good water pressure, important if you have long hair! The breakfast is served in an adorable restaurant immediately across the st with delicious coffee and an array of breakfast foods , cooked to order. The owner and his staff are incredibly attentive and you are not rushed at all! Everything is quaint and charming as well as delicious!
