Kumbakonam. City of Temples. And temples galore from Trichy to Chidambaram. Overwhelming. I chose the Kumbakonam Inn while planning our temple tour. We are an India born couple with a son born in the USA. Each unit in Kumbakonam Inn comprises a sitting area, kitchenette, large bedroom and bathroom. The bedroom has three very good beds, adequate for four people. Quiet, spacious, CLEAN and comfortable. We slept better here than in North American hotels. Outside the room is a tropical garden with parrots and song birds. The owner inn keeper, Mr Balaji, knows the temple belt like none other. His guidance was on the spot. He added deeper perspective when appropriate. How did he read our minds? Mr Balaji arranged a good driver for us and, each day, gave him the sequence of temples and places to eat. We had planned to stay 4 days. Extended it to 9. Have fond memories of temples, food and the hospitality of Mr and Mrs Balaji.

If HAVE to nitpick, you will not mistake the street outside to be Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills. Did bother me? Not in the least.

From the moment I booked my stay at 'Kumbakonam Inn' untill returning home, Mr Balaji followed up and took care in every manner. From suggesting places, temples, eateries etc utmost care was given. Hadn't I met Mr Balaji, I'd have missed the most beautiful experiences. The 4-day stay was nothing short of extraordinary. I have travelled and stayed in many places, but I can confidently say this was one of the most pleasant, heartwarming, and memorable experiences I have ever had. Mr. Balaji and his wonderful family are the epitome of genuine hospitality. They are exceptionally kind, deeply respectful, and treat guests not just as visitors, but as friends or family. Their warmth, attentiveness, and generosity made us feel at home from the very first moment. It’s rare to meet hosts who go above and beyond in every possible way, and yet they did so effortlessly. The accommodation itself was spotless – neat, tidy, and truly hygienic. Every detail was thoughtfully maintained, from the fresh linens and well-kept rooms to the comfortable beds and peaceful atmosphere. It’s clear that they take immense pride in offering guests a clean and welcoming space. What impressed me most was how genuine and consistent their care was. Whether it was helping us with local tips, ensuring we were comfortable, or simply sharing kind conversations, every interaction reflected sincerity. I had booked this place solely based on the reviews, and now I can wholeheartedly say every word I read was true. To anyone looking for accommodation that combines comfort, cleanliness, and the rare magic of true hospitality – look no further. Mr. Balaji and family will make your stay unforgettable. One of the most comfortable stays we had. Had a 3 year old & a 75 year old lady with us. The owner Balaji & Bhuvana made sure to make everything comfortable for us. The hospitality is world class. The rooms are very well maintained. Rooms were quiet as well and the hosts accommodated some of our specific needs. We asked them for blackout curtains and they made sure accomodate those for us. We will definitely be staying here again if we are back in Kumbakonam & recommending the place to others P.S - also consider asking Mr. Balaji for his recommendations on temples, places to eat and anything else Kumbakonam. He also doubles up as a great Kumbakonam local guide!

Though we didn’t need it, a fridge would have been a good add on and maybe useful for summer months Blackout curtains would have been a great add on

Mr. Balaji and his wife were very welcoming and treated us as family rather than customers. It started from before our arrival. I had enquired regarding travel services for driver and guide. In response, Mr. Balaji Whatsapped me several times with proposed itineraries and other suggestions. Because I was already traveling, I lost track of time and put it off. Luckily Mr. Balaji proactively contacted me and helped us with all the arrangements last minute. They also provide meal services for dinner, breakfast and afternoon tea. But what made Mr. and Mrs. Balaji stand out was an unforseen event. My sister suddenly had an allergic reaction late at night. I asked Mr. Balaji to order a taxi for us so that we can go to the nearest hospital. Mr. Balaji immediately arranged for an employee to drive us, and also insisted on coming along. Both he and his employee were with us at the hospital for the several hours. They weren't just there to drop us off; they were our advocates. They actively went up to the doctors and nurses on our behalf, made sure that my sister received care, then lined up for us at the pharmacy to get the medication and again at the cashier for payment. Without them, we would have been lost because the process was not intuitive and totally different from what we are used to in the US. The hospital was chaotic with no clear order...just crowds of people swarming around. We really appreciate everything Mr. and Mrs. Balaji did for us. They are wonderful people and very kind. Mr. Balaji refused to accept any money for his help, saying that he has a responsibility to us as we were his guest. I feel very fortunate that we were able to meet them. They are the best human beings.

Exceptionally clean home style place. I had reserved the place based on reviews and was apprehensive at first. The service at Kumbakonam Inn is truly outstanding. From ensuring we had the right directions to providing clean rooms , coordinating with nearby restaurants for food and service left me pleasantly surprised. My family loved the place and it was conveniently located to the temples we were visiting. A very good value and one that I will recommend.

Not really a negative given that it is a home style inn but for those looking for things like a restaurant at the property this does not have one.

Good clean & feels like home. Mr Bala is exceptionally guiding the guests & ensuring everything is spent perfectly while you stay here. He ensured to guide us regarding temples, food & every thing, something you won’t find anywhere. Even we relied on him for taxi booking which was quite economical & good. I recommend everyone to stay here at once , you will not regret. This was my first experience with a home stay and it definitely encouraged me to check in home stays before deciding at any accommodation.

It's personal touch of the Host Mr. Balaji and his wife . We felt like visiting our relatives house and not as a home stay. Since we went for pilgrimage, he guided us very well , how to plan our local trips , timing, distance and provided other tips . Since booking he followed us regularly,to help us to reach the property easily without any difficulty. Inside the property and rooms were kept neat and clean. There's ample parking space for your vehicles. We prefer to choose the same home stay every time we visit Kumbakonam and nearby areas . Big thanks to Host Mr. Balaji and his family and I personally strongly suggest people visiting Kumbakonam for its cleanliness and approachable most of the temples.

Though the location situated in a narrow road , it's hardly few meters away from Main highway. So it's not an issue.

The stay was very pleasant. Mr Balaji and Mrs. Balaji as a host did us everything possible to take care of us. They coordinated with the cab services and drafted an excellent plan for our tour. At every stage of our stay, we were made comfortable. I recommend anyone looking to stay and explore kumbakonam to consider Kumbakonam Inn hotels. The personal attention provided by Mr. Balaji was really superb.

The attention we got right from guiding our driver to the location of the inn , further coming often to check our needs and promptly attending to them , getting tea and coffee the we wanted , the food we ordered through them was excellent and the Management [ A Wonderful Couple here ] was pro-active and gave courteous attention to us throughout our stay. The rooms were elegant and quality was visible everywhere and I would prefer such accommodation to mere posh display.

I highly recommend this place to stay with family and the overall experience will exceed your expectations. Balaji and his wife are very empathetic and super committed to providing excellent customer service. He has been in touch with us throughout the trip and helped us guide us to the homestay and also places that we want to see nearby. As we travelled with two small kids and reached the stay a bit late, Balaji was in touch with us and arranged food (which is truly delicious). The entire duration of the stay we felt at home. The Homestay is really clean and very spacious with a kitchen, hall and decent size bedroom to accommodate all four of us. I recommend this homestay for any family that's looking for a comfortable place to stay around Kumbakonam, which also makes you feel like your second home.
