We had a warm and lovely stay with this kind elderly couple. Although we arrived earlier than expected, the grandma welcomed us warmly and kindly introduced the nearby attractions. The guest room is located upstairs, with a cozy living room and shared common areas, while the hosts live downstairs. One of the most memorable parts was the breakfast — freshly prepared by the grandpa himself, who is about to retire this year! There’s also a little form where guests can choose their breakfast items and preferred time, which adds a charming, homely touch to the experience.
The only small downside is that the bathroom is shared, but everything else was absolutely perfect!

We loved that Amberlea is owned and run by a personable West Coast couple, Butch and Sharon; their home being very comfortable, super clean and well maintained. Our room upstairs had an on suite and the bed was super comfy . We liked that the 3 guest rooms upstairs also had a communal lounge if you wanted it, complete with hot drinks and biscuits available, tourist info, tv, view etc. The garden was lovely to relax in and the property comes with attentive and cute dog and cat, Millie and Milo, sure to make you feel special. Easily walkable to town and the beach...too easy!. Breakfast was communal and very beautifully laid out and tasty...options for full cooked or continental. Butch and Sharon joined us and we enjoyed sharing stories and hearing of life growing up on the West Coast. All in all, couldn't fault anything...will be happy to return...very good value ..thankyou so much!
We should have stayed longer!!!

We stayed one night in the en-suite room and loved it. The room was cozy, clean, and comfortable. There are adorable small dogs and a very cute cat you can pat. A shared living room with fridges, tea, and coffee is available anytime, perfect for relaxing. The hosts were incredibly kind and informative, ensuring we had the best experience in and around town. The breakfast was delicious and customizable—I'm still thinking about the porridge Butch made and wish I had asked for the recipe!
The walls are a bit thin, so you might catch some sounds from the living room or nearby rooms. Perfect motivation to either join the fun or wake up bright and early!

The room was lovely, we had an en-suite bathroom, everything was clean. There is a little living room area to hang out and have tea/coffee with a good selection to choose from. There is also a small fridge, plus glasses and mugs to help yourself to drink. The hosts are lovely people, and the have a friendly dog :) Breakfast was delicious and they also catered for my gluten-free diet, which I really appreciated. There is enough parking spots on the premises for all the rooms. We had a great stay, would recommend.
The walls were a bit thin so you could hear people from the other room or the living room, so it was a bit noisy until everyone decided to go to sleep. No issues afterwards, we had a good sleep.

Amazing B&B and one of the best places we stayed in during our trip to New Zealand. The owners of the house were very welcoming and friendly. They gave us recommendations for local attractions and restaurants. The bedroom was large and very comfortable. The room had a large window from where we could see a beautiful sunset! The shared living room was also very nice with large windows and a TV. The shared bathroom was very modern and clean. Good powerful shower. The cooked and continental breakfast in the morning was excellent. There was plenty of parking available in the driveway. The walk into town is also not too far. We were able to do our laundry for free at the property and hang it up to dry in the garden. The owners kindly brought the laundry in for us in the morning.

Sharyn and Butch were great hosts, and their B&B is lovely. Amberlea is well situated for walking in to town for dinner and a drink. Breakfast was excellent, and there is a lounge area where guests can sit and relax and help themselves to tea, coffee, and biscuits. It was also interesting to hear about some of the history of the town from Butch and Sharyn over breakfast. We enjoyed our short stay and would certainly recommend to family and friends if they were visiting the area.

Hosts: genuine, warm, considerate and organised! Butch and Sharyn care for their guests and this is one thing that sets them apart. They made sure we were comfortable, they've given us some ideas and recommendations of places to visit. The breakfast - both continental and cooked was top notch - quality and service. The couple welcomed my family as though we've been friends before. House: amazing location, quiet and accessible. No issues with parking. The rooms were spic n span. Everything had a place. Beds were made professionally and the sheets, linens, pillows, towels, looked and smelled clean and fresh!!! They even had biscuits, good brands of tea and coffee, books for the wee ones, bikes to borrow, hot tub and the fur friends Millie and Milo and Coby were very friendly and well- trained. Communication: clear, timely and polite. Cleanliness and the overall quality and customer service were excellent!
Nothing.

The property was very well kept with a beautiful lawn and a nice small parking lot on property. I also really appreciated the signage that that was well placed near the street to indicate the location and where to park. The home itself was very cozy, roomy, inviting and exceptionally clean and well maintained! All together the property was one of the most delightful and comfortable places I’ve ever stayed! The hosts are also some of the kindest and most helpful people I’ve ever met!
Nothing! I wouldn’t change a thing!

The hosts Sharyn and Burch are lovely and were so kind to us, very helpfully allowing us to do some washing and to dry out our tent during our stay. The breakfast was excellent and it was lovely to chat to the other guests, the room was really comfortable and the shared bathroom was nice and clean with a great shower, also only shared with one other room so it was never long to wait if in use. The location was less than a 15 min walk from the centre of Hokitika too, a lovely stay all round!

We stayed 3 nights at this B&B, located in a spacious home in a residential neighborhood. Our room and the rest of the house were clean, quiet and comfortable, surrounded by lovely grounds, within walking distance to the town and restaurants. The hosts, Sharyn and Butch, were extremely personable and provided helpful suggestions about places to eat and to visit. Breakfasts were delicious and the B&B was very reasonably priced. We would highly recommend Amberlea!
