Nestled between the rugged southern coast of Iceland and the majestic Eyjafjallajökull volcano, UMI Hotel is an absolute gem. The design strikes a perfect balance between modern minimalism and cozy Icelandic charm, with floor-to-ceiling windows that offer breathtaking views of the surrounding landscapes. The on-site restaurant is a highlight, serving exquisite Nordic cuisine with fresh, local ingredients, perfectly paired with an excellent selection of wines. The staff are warm, attentive, and go above and beyond to make your stay unforgettable. Whether you’re chasing the Northern Lights or exploring nearby waterfalls, UMI provides the perfect retreat.
If there’s one minor detail to improve, the pillows could be softer and flatter for ultimate comfort. But apart from that, this hotel is pure perfection!

Umi hotel is an understated, elegant boutique hotel near the city of Vik, on the shore of a black sand beach, at the edge of the expansive Katla natural park and a beautiful part of Iceland that we were excited about seeing. Staying at Umi Hotel, we were able to access many of the beautiful waterfalls, ice caves, views of the glacier, access to the mossy lava fields, close contact with hordes of Icelandic horses, and aurora borealis viewing wake up service. Even though skies were overcast and the aurora wasn't visible, it was incredible to stay at a place that feels so remote and quiet, while enjoying super comfortable accommodations, a gourmet restaurant, and warm, friendly, and helpful staff. Sauna was a plus, too!
Our only complaint, and it wasn't a big deal, is that the building makes a lot of noise when a nearby shower or washing machine is being run. That said, we were so happy, full, and tired by the end of the day, that we didn't hear it too much.

We celebrated my 50th birthday at UMI Hotel in Skógar, a highlight of our Icelandic journey. The spacious, luxurious room offered breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains and coastline, creating a serene atmosphere. Dining at the hotel’s restaurant was exceptional; we enjoyed dinner both nights, savoring dishes crafted from fresh, local ingredients, complemented by attentive service. The lounge provided a cozy setting to unwind after our daily adventures, with its tasteful decor and panoramic vistas enhancing the experience. The hotel’s private beach was a tranquil retreat, especially at sunset, offering a peaceful escape. The sauna, with its glass wall overlooking pastoral landscapes, was a rejuvenating experience, and we were fortunate to have it to ourselves. The hotel’s proximity to attractions like Skógafoss waterfall and the Skógar Museum made exploration convenient. The UMI Hotel provided a memorable and luxurious stay, making my milestone birthday truly special.
While we enjoyed the picnic lunch, we felt the selection could have offered better value for the cost.

We stayed at Umi Hotel in Skógar for two nights as part of my birthday celebrations. The room was spacious, luxurious, and offered an incredible view of the surrounding landscape. We dined at the hotel’s restaurant both nights; the food and service were exceptional. The lounge provided a relaxing atmosphere with great service and phenomenal decor. Everything was well-maintained and clean, contributing to a comfortable and relaxing stay. The private beach was incredible, especially near sunset. The location was close to several points of interest, including Skógafoss waterfall and the Eyjafjallajökull Visitor Centre. The sauna was absolutely incredible; we were fortunate to have it to ourselves, and the pastoral view from the glass wall was breathtaking.
We ordered a picnic lunch from Umi Hotel, anticipating a selection of gourmet items to match the hotel’s high standards. However, the “treats” included were underwhelming and didn’t align with the premium price. The assortment lacked the expected variety and quality, leaving us feeling that the offering didn’t provide good value. Enhancing the picnic options to include more distinctive and high-quality items would better reflect the hotel’s overall excellence.

We loved everything about the Umi hotel. During our trip to Iceland we stayed in 10 different hotels while traveling around the island. The Umi hotel far exceeded our expectations and was far superior to the others hotels we stayed in. The hotel is ideally located for viewing the Northern Lights, offering an exceptional setting with minimal light pollution, which enhances the chances of seeing the aurora. After a long day of hiking and touring Iceland’s breathtaking countryside, the hotel provides all the comforts you could ask for. Rooms are spacious and luxurious, designed to make you feel at home while you unwind. The robes provided were soft and cozy combined with the luxury bath products gave us a spa feeling. The staff were friendly, professional, and very attentive. The hotel’s restaurant was fabulous, offering a breakfast buffet with a wide variety of options, sure to satisfy every palate. Whether you’re looking for Icelandic specialties or international cuisine, the buffet has something for everyone. Dinner was perfection, with expertly prepared dishes that showcased local ingredients. From fresh seafood to farm-to-table offerings, each meal was a highlight of the stay.

Everythig about this Hotel was exceptional. Starting from the heartwarming contact with the staff and quick responses here, on Booking, when I was stressed out that due to flight delays we will not arrive as planned as I got assured that late check-in will not be a problem, than through the amazing surprise waiting for us upon the arrival that was an antipasti assortement with homebaked bread - what brings me to excellent food and drinks at the restaurant; rooms with perfect silence where you only hear the wind and birds singing (or horse) and peaceful, boundless window view; ending with a trail to a secluded black sand beach I will always remember while looking at my ring ;) When leaving, we ordered delicious goods from picnic menu - eating it during our all-day-hike we felt cared for, pampered even and happy. If I visit Iceland again, I would definately love to come back. It was the first hotel on our trip and, now I can confirm - truly the best one in my opinion. Thank you UMI!

Our stay at Umi Hotel was absolutely perfect! The location is superb, situated off the main road and surrounded by Icelandic fields, offering a private and secluded atmosphere. The hotel itself is stunning, with beautifully designed structures and rooms. Our room featured stylish Scandinavian decor and was impeccably clean. We dined at the hotel's restaurant, and the food and service were outstanding – among the best we experienced in Iceland. The beach is about a 20-minute walk away, and we enjoyed a peaceful stroll, having the beach almost entirely to ourselves. I highly recommend this place and look forward to returning.
Everything was excellent!

- location perfect - very secluded & peaceful energy A few inconveniences here & there but nothing that would stop me from going back.
- only facility open late at night & early morning is "yoga room" which is a quiet empty/gym room with a view - would've enjoyed to be able to access the sauna for example with sunrise - staff can be more present - I checked in late at night & when I went back to reception because I had an issue, she was already getting ready to leave. I understand that this might be hotel policy. But would be nice with such a high rated hotel to have 24h service. - fridge in my room was not plugged in

This property was stunning. The sauna in particular was incredibly peaceful. Even if you have bad weather, please make sure you make the walk to the beach. It’s a decent walk but so beautiful. The food and service at the restaurant was amazing. I also loved being so close to Skógafoss, my favourite waterfall. The door knocking service for northern lights was awesome, and I was lucky enough to be able to see them both nights during my stay!! Would recommend!
Beds were a bit firm, but still had a wonderful sleep.

This hotel was easily one of our favorites during our two-week adventure through Norway, Iceland, and beyond. From the moment we arrived, we were impressed. The hotel was impeccably clean and comfortable, and the little touches, like the fantastic-smelling soap, shampoo and body lotion, went a long way. The on-site dining was exceptional, featuring the best steak I've had in this trip. The quality of the food was truly top-notch. The staff was incredibly kind and friendly. My husband enjoyed great conversation with the manager while relaxing at the bar. The mountain views were breathtaking, and the hotel's proximity to the beach allowed us to capture stunning photos of the surrounding landscape. Overall, this hotel provided an exceptional experience, and we highly recommend it if you want a comfortable, quiet place in the middle of the nature.
Everything was perfect.
